Purdue vs. Auburn: MASTER DISCUSSION THREAD

It would help if the athletes scored some
TJ, what do you see in the offensive sets tho? I just see Colvin and Heide not even looking to shoot or attack. Not even dribble with purpose to a spot or break their man down. They either get the ball and look for the next step in the offensive set, which is usually to Loyer or Smith OR they stand in the corner and watch TKR back down his man or Loyer or smith try to create something that’s not there.

I assume paint is trying to run stuff through the big 3, but Colvin and Heide are absolutely non existent at times. And vs teams that apply a lot of pressure, those 2 could be an X factor to break down that type of defense.

Colvin and Heide yikes

Colvin and Heide should not start the next game until they show they deserve it. Cox and Burgess should take their spots. Harris should be off first off the bench because he actually showed he can still hit a 3 pt shot tonight and gave good effort.

To me the biggest disappoint of the season is Colvin's development. He has all the athleticism in the world and I can even respect that his basketball knowledge still needs work because of how awful his high school coaching was but the dude just doesn't seem to give good effort consistently. That is the most frustrating part. And on offense, feels like he hasn't hit a meaningful shot since Ole Miss.

Loved to see the effort at the end of the game because that felt like the only effort I saw all game.
I mean I don't know why Colvin would be any bigger of a disappointment than Heide. Both are very similar players except Colvin is better defending smaller players and Heide is better with larger players.

Purdue vs. Auburn: MASTER DISCUSSION THREAD

Things we won't have to worry about:

1. Smith leaving early to the NBA
2. TKR leaving early
3. Team getting a big head from being ranked

Having said that, this team, I think there's something going on. I don't have any predictions but feels like one or two players will transfer end of season. It feels like someone is going to be frustrated by end of year.
So ?

Key to watching this years team.

I like Jacobsen. But he wasn't Edey and obviously it's unfair to expect that of him.

We'd have fewer issues obviously so better with him than without but I wonder if we'd still struggle against this athletic teams.

My guess is a definite yes but with a little more margin for error on defense with a potential shot-blocker and rebounder.

Colvin and Heide yikes

I mean come on. Y’all wanna try to help us out a little bit? Good lord.
This offense is not working for Purdue, it was ok when we had Eddy in the middle and TKR is no Eddy.
If it's not working change somethings around, we have to get everyone involved in the offence.
Our 2 most athletic players stand on the side waiting to get the ball and they took 5 shots between them.
We have a few games coming up we should win and are at home so at least we can look forward to that.

How can we never get Colvin or Heide going to the rim? Every other team manages it. We have the 2 best leapers on the court and we dont get them anything downhill. Reduced to jumpshooting. Mind boggling. Of course they rape us on the perimeter, we never punish it!
And Purdue never back cuts or has many back screens. It is as though Zach is back there and so out behind the arc allowing D to be overly aggressive

Purdue vs. Auburn: MASTER DISCUSSION THREAD

There's nice pieces to this team, truly, but those who think we can stand pat and just have our sophs blow up next year aren't watching the same games I am.

This team needs more athleticism in the worst way. We look slow against these types of teams.
Purdue was much slower than Auburn and was sped up. I hope Purdue gets to play them again. 😁

No expectations

We are undersized, half court and not nearly as athletic.... on the other hand we have heart and you never know. By tournament time we could have found ourselves like we often post.
I love your first sentence. No excuses but this Auburn team is playing better than anyone in the country right now and Purdue has a bunch of issues to figure out.

These next six games will be telling. If this team posts a winning record and figures some things out in those games this could still be a nice season. If they are 0.500 or worse this could be a struggle, i.e. second tier in Big Ten and low seed in NCAAT.

I hear you Dry - plus two other things out of his control with Jacobsen's injury and Catchings' late decommit. I will be surprised if there isn't one this year, but two or three?......don't know about that - just going by what Painter has repeatedly said.

I also get that people disagree with his philosophy surrounding the portal and/or NIL.
I'm with you on 2 or 3, I doubt he will do it. But I can still hope!!

Colvin and Heide yikes

When sets breakdown. You need a PG that can dribble drive or create his own shot against tough teams.....ours does not have that ability. He's good when sets can be executed.
He's actually the best we have at creating his own shot. Which is the problem, No one besides Cox is even close to being able to do that. Puts Smith in a terrible spot. I agree he's not great at it and is too small at the basket but if we had a couple others that could also do it, then it wouldn't put so much pressure on him.

Playoffs....

16-team playoff format, no home games, play games at bowl sites with most attractive bowls for later rounds. If these don't draw crowds at neutral sites...it tells me that college football is NOT as much fun as college basketball tournament in which games are sold out or well attended.
In the college basketball tournament, the highest seeds are local to the neutral site, which helps bigly with attendance.

Purdue vs. Auburn: MASTER DISCUSSION THREAD

The way this team is playing, I can see them finishing about .500 in league play. Won’t go undefeated at home, but will win most, and, will find wins on the road to be few.

Indiana, Michigan, and Rutgers (x2 each).....done with Maryland and Penn State

Single-plays left:

Home - NW, Nebraska, Ohio State, USC, Wisconsin, and UCLA

Away - Minnesota, Washington, Oregon, Iowa, Michigan State, and Illinois

Your guess is as good as mine, Doc.

Never realized Edey masked so many limitations of this roster. Very disappointing that they have not improved their game individually since last year.
