Doesn't matter how we finish, we still only have three viable bigs next season.
I know. I'm seeing Trey as a 4 primarily, Jacobsen as a 5 and Burgess as a 4/5 depending on Cam who could back up Trey at the 4. Reason why a 5 is what I think Purdue needs most. If Cam's improvement is questionable and I can see how some would view that...then a 4 after a 5 would be my best guess. I'm guessing Giccari gets more comfortable running the 1 behind Braden leaving Fletcher at a 3 then 2 and CJ a 2 or a combo with Gicarri. I see Fletcher/Myles and Benter as 3's. All these are guesses, but won't be surprised if Matt goes after a 5 first and if another...a 4 man. I don't see him going after another guard with West in the fold for next year, but the following year he will and has...

Braden could use a rest

Tough to be the center of offense (and defense) for 40 minutes, and not be fatigued mentally and physically, happpened Frosh. .maybe 25-30 minutes per game the next month, take a lower seeding and be ready for tournament. And Harris/Cox mature. But Keady says college kids never get tired
I agree. He’s not the same player he was a couple months ago.

Missing wide open 3’s.

But I was also saying he’d be our fourth best scoring option. Paint would not have him be an option before TKR, Braden or fletch. Therefore, not sure we would have ran action for him to put up close to what he is now.
I disagree with this. Paint would have seen him DESTROYING all our individual defenders all summer, and IMO quickly moved him up to no lower than 3rd option.

Michigan, Purdue, Wisconsin, Michigan St., UCLA and Maryland , WHO WINS BT.

Still a 3-4 seed and lots more games to be played.
1st in big ten is all but gone. If season ended today we are likely the last 3 seed.

However with @msu, @IU, UCLA, Rutgers, @Ill and factoring in our opponents will all play 6 to 8 pts better than they are against us I see 2-3 being our most likely finish, 3-2 if things break our way.

2-3 finish gets us a 5 maybe even 6 seed. A 3-2 finish likely a high 5 seed. I dont have much hope right now. I cant ****ing fathom that we lost at home to ohio st with a 16 pt lead and at home to wisconsin with a 9 pt lead.

And we are backing to playing 3v5 every game like we were early in the year in our previous losing spree

As much as that might be a good idea, I can't see it happening. Certainly not 25-30. Maybe 34-37. A 2 minute break each half. The problem is that Braden on the floor makes us a better team, and Braden certainly doesn't want to come out. So how do you make it happen? A comfortable win is the only thing.

Michigan gona ****ing win again. Ohio st is in danger of falling out the top 30 which would give us now our 2nd quad 2 loss.

Suddenly we are hurling toward a 5 or 6 seed.

Its amazing how many teams and players go the **** off on us then cant do shit any game after.

Yes he has only sat out 40 total mins since the Maryland game.

This is such a key point….

Unfortunately for Purdue, the “light” has yet to come on for too many guys who were expected to play prominent roles.

I think about it this way: the vast majority of CMP recruits finish as exponentially better players than when they arrived: Edey, TKR, Fletcher, Braden, Haas, Swanigan, Etwaan, and on and on…

This is where the portal comes in— to maintain a highly competitive team until other guys reach their potential.

I gotta believe we will see much better versions of Heide and Colvin moving forward, especially if they are pushed hard by portal acquisitions…

This is the challenge CMP is faced with— one I think the will embrace and flourish with.
Think about who you just named as developing into better players…what do they all have in common?

Purdue -5.5

We barely have a scouting report either - he’s the 5th guard. He was a redshirt PWO last year and has gotten into most games to eat some minutes prior to an upcoming media timeout. He generally has not been ready for prime time due to trying to do too much on both ends. We had a player like this about 10 years ago you may or may not remember - Zak Showalter, also a walk on, who earned PT just being active and athletic..
Showalter is a bad comp. Janicki reminds me more of a young John Diebler. Different team I realize, but this is closer to the mark. I wonder if Janicki takes the same leap as Deibler from frosh to soph?

If Ohio State can beat Michigan today, we beat MSU Tuesday and then MSU beats michigan next weekend…3 way tie for first.
I have a sinking feeling it won't pan out that way, starting with an OSU L this afternoon.

Note to Micah Parrish: Hey, remember that time when you were at Mackey and didn't even draw iron on something like 6 threes in a row? Maybe want to try that again instead of this 0-4 bullshit you're pulling today?

Many of our second and third tier players just have not panned out as hoped or planned. I don't think CMP could argue if pressed.

He averaged 15 and 5 before he was hurt. CSU isn't a no-name program. Those stats can transfer. We got someone from CSU if I remember correctly.

As I said from the very first post IT'S JUST AN EXAMPLE. I used him because we just played him. If you don't think we would be better with him on our team than Colvin, I don't know what else to tell you. He's averaging 19 and 4. Are you kidding me, 4th best player on our team???

Back to the original statement. The poster said we couldn't do better in the portal than Colvin. I like Myles and have defended him on here many times against Degrees. But to say we couldn't possibly do better is just patently false.
The guy was coming off a seasoned ending foot injury and hadn’t played for over a year and had only done it once in his career. And I know it was an example. But I was also saying he’d be our fourth best scoring option. Paint would not have him be an option before TKR, Braden or fletch. Therefore, not sure we would have ran action for him to put up close to what he is now.

But to also say we could have found someone better is hindsight. Myles was showing great promise last year and went through the system and probably knows the system better than someone coming in would. But yeah, looking back now, sure it would have been ideal to grab someone but we also didn’t have room.

Missing wide open 3’s.

I think Harris and Cox have done very respectable jobs on defense this year and are better than Myles or Cam were at this time last year.
Harris and cox are playing different roles than Heide and Myles did last year. Last year, it was all about Zach and who complemented him the most. Players didn’t have to do as much. I think if Harris and cox were here last year they would not have developed as quickly as they have now

I get all that and pay was never mentioned. There will be some 5s that could start and not require the money the three get. Just as an example would be the center for Penn State should he wish to leave. UCLA Mora could find success as well...Illinois Johnson Jr. would be another. Not saying it has to be those three, but if they wanted to leave I'm sure they would do so with less money than the three merit. I agree with team dynamics as a potential powder keg overall, but Purdue can inquire a bit and some players might like to get on a team that could make some noise...and a team that historically been friendly to a 5 man. One player new to the culture has less clout than several players brought in...
Wonderful post, great insight, this needs to be forwarded to Painter lol. Of course they need to leave first, guessing 1 or 2 might.
