Perry, Harris, and Forsythe class of 2024

IU was in his top 5 , but a swing and a miss. Ohhh, I’ll just throw this out to ponder… 2024 IU commitments so far …. Wait for it… wait… ZERO, 0, notta, zilch, so far they’ve aimed high but come up empty.

Ok, and "those guys" (gross generalization) are NOT the drop dead spot up shooters that every team ALSO desires. For as much as we all love to see guys like Colvin, you need a Loyer just as much.
Guys here are in LOVE with "get his own shot" and of course we all see why, but you still need a Loyer.....

I have hopes as Myles "looks" the REAL deal of being able to get his own shot AND be a 50% jump shooter.
That's NBA baby.
Sounds like Kanon Catchings to me best HS player when it comes to getting his own shot I have seen in sometime.

If I’m Painter and I want to change the perception of style, the first open layup Morton turns down I yank him. The second time he turns down an open layup, I’m changing the locks on his dorm room and his bags will be packed waiting for him.

That’s my 2 cents.
I don’t think Painter ever asks Morton to leave but I doubt he’d stick around and watch his role diminish completely. That said, if he’s magically shooting 35% plus next year on an average volume he’s going to take minutes away from guys with bigger future upsides. Catch 22 it seems.

Yeah, same here…hopefully Harris has a great visit this weekend and then commits soon after. I know he has to go to LSU after us, so hopefully he just wants to check out a football game and then commits to Purdue haha.
He’s picking a great day and game to go to if that’s what he plans on doing. Maybe at LSU he’ll get weirded out by Brian Kelly’s new wacky southern accent.

Magically shoots 35%? You do realize he shot 44% from 3 his sophomore year and is shooting roughly 33% over the last 2 years? Hardly "magic" to hit 35% based on his history.

He shot the ball 34 times from 3 his soph year. Last year, when he shot 3x more, that % dipped to 28%. So, if he is going to shoot it more than 30 times in a season, I’d say it would be “magic” if he shot it at 35%. Hopefully, he somehow does, but not confident it’s going to happen.

After a terrible November, he shot 31% rest of season.

that doesn’t give me anymore confidence…He made 23/75 from December and on, for 30.67% and shot 11/23 from the FT line during that time too for under 50%. He doesn’t seem to excel at shooting.

Again, for the success of the team, I hope he can shoot it at 35% and above and hit his FTs at a better rate, but in extended minutes last year, he wasn’t able to do so. So, hopefully, if he has minutes reduced, he is able to shoot less and hit a higher % because he it seems he has either lost his confidence or is not a very good shooter at this level.

I think he's a good "glue" guy, but shouldn't see to many minutes in order for this team to make a deep run in the tourney. He had 6 games last year where he was 0-16 in 103 minutes. This team needs a threat to score in order for us to win big.

So anyways - how we feeling about our chances with Harris?

Haven’t heard anything on him visiting LSU but thought they landed someone else recently or were close with another guard.

His FT shooting is bad, but if he can hit 31% from 3 over most of a season I don't see how bumping that to 35% is outside of a real possibility.

I'll bet you they still pull a 5 star out of the air. They always do.

What 6 games? How many did we lose?

Just a thought. Which of the 5 teams have higher ranked commits than Purdue? His minutes will come at PG which translates better for his size. I expect he will commit to Purdue he loves to win and Purdue does that well.

I thought I saw he was going to visit lsu after us this weekend? Would be great if not and I feel like we have a great chance with Harris, but have no clue tbh. Not sure if the Mustang signing makes him want to go to GaTech more or stay away from there and not sure if he’s cool following in his dads footsteps/be in his shadow at Purdue. I hope he decides to come to Purdue cuz he seems like he’d be a great addition! We should know soon enough.

Well he is out on Miami and it all depends if he wants to stay close to home/help build something at GATech or come to Purdue where he could help contribute to being part of one of the best recruiting classes painter has had and hopefully get us over the hump to a F4…him mixed with Colvin and Catchings (plz still come) and with the guys we have now would be pretty fun to watch.

What exactly does he do as this glue guy?

I think it’s almost an ideal situation as Smith will be the only returning point guard with 2 years of eligibility remaining. He’ll have an opportunity to join a roster with lots of shooters and athletes.

Defense, detailed player, keeps the team cohesive and give maximum effort.
Hm. I’d say he’s pretty avg at defense (gets pegged as some defensive stopper and he didn’t seem to stop anyone last year, doesn’t avg many rebounds or steals) and the team cohesiveness…ok and I guess yeah he gives max effort.I’d say the whole boiler team does that. But hey, hope he helps the team when he’s in this year.

Definitely never earned the right to be called a defensive stopper/specialist. I definitely don't hate EM and am good with him having a roster spot, but if he's playing >10 mins a game, we have problems.

Hm....Some of you people just want to argue to be right or just blind. How about you read the full post. I'll stick with the glue guy comment. Eifert was a pretty fair comparison and helped us win many games as that guy.

Ok hope you’re right. We will re-visit in a couple months and I hope that I’m eating crow

If Morton could shoot 3s as consistently as Grady did, I would agree.
The comparison was based on being a "glue" guy. A glue guy IMO doesn't have the stats the fans want, but the intangibles/effort to help his team win and I don't believe everyone has that ability. I'll stand by that comparison with Eifert. People are associating his numbers to determine if we win or lose, but that's not always true. Once again, we need him to contribute in some form, but his time on the court should decrease because of his scoring ability or lack thereof.

I’m all for Glue Guys, but this team needs 4 shooters around Zach.
