Our nation's COVID-19 response is a disaster !

Beth I’m surprised you have not figured out prior to Covid how ignorant many are. In my last job I was forced by our boss to hire a chief nurse exec as a political favor for one of his buddies. She did not know who the VP of the US was.

Why is it a surprise that people who socially distance might be smarter? There has been a ton of research over decades that has correlated poor intelligence with bad health choices.

That is astounding. One of the surprises for me is that many of these ignorant people went to well-regarded universities but appear to have learned nothing. Did they never go to class? Did they never read a textbook? In addition, they seem to have no appreciation or respect for knowledge and learning. "The science should not stand in the way of the schools reopening." Really?

Fake News from Jim Acosta. Now he did follow up with more of what she actually said in another tweet.....but he accomplished his goal of a hit job that would be retweeted without context. School should teach people to be skeptical of everything they read from media activists on both sides of the aisle.

I’ve lived through 6 presidents so far. This current administration has to be the dumbest I’ve seen. Dumber than the Nixon administration. This chick talking about science should not get in the way of opening schools is beyond ridiculous. The president talking about injecting disinfectant into people. Then you have the followers in hundreds calling their state health organizations inquiring about it. I‘m totally convinced that these people believe that the earth is flat.

Honestly, her full quote makes it sound even worse. Believe the science but don’t believe the science. I think I know what she was getting at, but it must have also been worded that way in her trapper keeper.

I don't think Trump has even gotten near that possibility in whatever thought process he's using with this plan. Have you? Do you want to put........even the chance........of that burden on your child?

You are giving Drumpf too much credit ! - He is clearly a narcissist & is focused on only 1 person - HIMSELF !

Just for giggles, I took a look at the characteristics of a narcissist and was not surprised at the "match"

1.) Superiority & Entitlement (Remember the " I am a Genius !" - BINGO !
2.) Exaggerated need for attention (Twitter was made for him) - BINGO !
3.) Perfectionism (Everything is the greatest ever ! ! ha ha) - BINGO !
4.) Great need for control (Loyalty oathes anyone?) - BINGO !
5.) Lack of responsibility - Blaming & deflecting - BINGO !
6.) Lack of boundaries (I can do anything I want !) - BINGO !
7.) Lack of empathy - DOUBLE BINGO !
8.) Perceiving everything as a threat (Mexicans, Muslims, Socialists, etc..) - Bingo !
9.) Emotional reasoning - The only thing that counts is how THEY feel ! -BINGO !
10.) They split their personality into good and bad - The good they take credit for, the bad they blame on others - BINGO !
11.) Fear of rejection and ridicule - may fear germs, losing money or being abandoned - BINGO ! (I wondered where that Germ phobia came from !)
12.) Anxiety - BINGO ! (Guess that explains the sleep issue)
13.) Deeply repressed shame - I guess that explains why he doesn't like science and experts - They make him look like the MORON that he is ! - BINGO ! (He is in DEEP do-do on this one ! !)
14.) An inability to be vulnerable - emotionally needy - may quickly start new relationships when current one no longer meets their needs - BINGO ! ! ! !
15.) An inability to communicate or work as part of a team - BINGO ! ! ! ! !

TALK ABOUT CHECKING THE BOXES ! ! ! WOW !

Everyone with a brain knew exactly what she meant. Follow the science! Open up the schools.

We could play that game with quotes from politicians on both sides of the aisle. Take one sentence out of a paragraph to distort what they were saying.

Except the science she quoted was from one guy when a majority of experts are saying that starting schools when the virus is in exponential growth is a nightmare.

Actually she quoted:

1) JAMA pediatric study
2) Dr. Scott Atlas - who said we are the outlier in the Western world if we don't send kids back. The science from Europe supports this.

And while she didn't mention it in this abbreviated clip.
3) CDC recommends sending kids back to school

The science is pretty clear. Then you add in all the negative impacts on 50M kids, if they don't go back in person.

For one, nobody disagrees that kids aren't better off going back to school. JAMA clearly does not agree that sending kids back when the virus is exploding is a good idea. Not sure if you read their report, but here is the key part that the "Freedumb" crowd can't understand.

Create the Conditions for a Successful Reopening

6 Nonetheless, in the event of significant community spread in the fall and winter months, parents and teachers are likely to again demand school closure, and, if they do, elected leaders are likely to agree. The best way to avoid a replay of the widespread closures is to control the pandemic more effectively in the future. To open school safely, communities should drive down the spread of COVID-19 over the summer while building a strong public health response for the fall. Every community should implement a rigorous program of testing, contact tracing, isolation, and quarantine.

Yep, Europe is doing this. They also figured out how to slow it down unlike the dysfunctional mess we have in this country.

Kids need to get back to school, but when 40% of the country keeps touching the hot plate when people tell them you might burn themselves, we are here and it sucks.

I hope I am wrong, but I see a car wreck coming. It just sounds insane to me to go from 20,000 cases "ONE" month ago to over 60,000 cases now and to then say we are ready for face-to-face instruction. Nothing I am seeing or reading convinces me that:

1.) The government is driven by anything other than political needs
2.) The schools are prepared and trained, with appropriate PPE/supplies . . AND TIMELY TESTING ! !
3.) That schools have a clear plan for HOW to address kids which will get sick.
(Both at school and when the parents have to go back to work) &
4.) Kids will be any different than their parents who tell them they don't need to wear those damn masks.

Why would anyone blame the protestors?
Austin-protests.jpg

Everyone has their breaking point - I tend to side with those who were attacked FIRST.

This is NUTS !

President Donald Trump is throwing a big wrench into negotiations between the White House and Senate Republicans over the next coronavirus relief bill by demanding a payroll tax cut be included (ie Trying to BUY votes) and funding for testing be reduced or cut completely. (That will help !)

What a MORON !

I have been VERY impressed with the Lincoln Project videos. As long as they keep posting new videos, Trump is going to disappear.

Just wait til they start posting videos about the lies to middle America, who DIDN'T get their jobs back - as promised !
Yeah, what happened to the coal mine jobs? That is why Clinton wanted to re-train them in other energy jobs.

The thread should've ended with this post right here.

"OK, then let's be like Europe. Here's your mask. Here are your public health rules." - Everybody else

What Joe forgot to tell his audience:

New York Covid 19 deaths per Capita (per 100k) 152
Florida Covid 19 deaths per Capita (per 100K) 29

New York Unemployment rate 15.7%
Florida Unemployment rate 10.4%

Desantis from the start understood the science/data showed the elderly were the most at risk. Desantis understood it wasn't smart policy to send infectious Covid 19 patients back into Nursing homes.

Cuomo from the start mandated infectious Covid 19 patients be sent back into Nursing homes.

I was one of the first to say that Cuomo and others around the nation (like Indiana) screwed up on the nursing homes when this started, but . . hopefully you realize that Desantis now looks like a complete idiot

Talk about "What have you done for me lately ?"

He didn't stress mask wearing until he had a 5 alarm fire, reopened the bars and beaches prematurely, now has growing cases in nursing homes and prisons, Is trying to alter the states numbers, doesn't want to release factual information on nursing homes and hospitals and doesn't want to have all of the nursing home patients tested. I wonder why?

I am guessing that from this point forward, Cuomo will look more like the leader/manager and Desantis will look more like the idiot politician, who like Trump, said Trust me !

For someone who "supposedly" understands the science, his state is now one of the very worst in the nation. I also think the verdict is still out on his nursing home performance. (He, like Trump, is squandering the early gains that they had.)

Like I have been saying for awhile now, things are going to get worse there.

" I " have always cared about COVID, the process mismanagement, the lack of leadership /professional expertise and the lack of urgency.

The sad thing is . . . even after all of the physical and financial carnage, no directional change is being seen in the white house - They are either unwilling or incapable of doing so. This needs to be "managed" LOWER; they need to tell ALL Americans to wear masks and social distance themselves, they need RELIABLE tests and they need to put on their big boy pants and lead by example !

I predicted 250,000 deaths in Sept and then the jump in coastal areas - It's happening. The numbers are now VERY clear !

So DeSantis didn't make Cuomo's mistakes on the nursing homes. That's good.

Why didn't he learn anything else from from what happened up North? Lol. You always talk about how he understood the science.........was he in the bathroom when the talk was about the science of transmission?

The death rates have nothing to do with DeSantis. They are down everywhere as more is learned and treatments improve.

Can't believe you're still here talking him up. Lol.

While I full well know that this article will be decried as "Fake News!" because it is from WaPo by those who probably should read it, nonetheless it addresses the Florida experience including insider comments -
"Coronavirus ravaged Florida, as Ron DeSantis sidelined scientists and followed Trump
By Cleve R. Wootson Jr., Isaac Stanley-Becker, Lori Rozsa and Josh Dawsey" - LINK

Gov. Deathsentence has been tanking in his approval ratings. He now sits at 40%. His disapproval of the handling of the virus is now at 58%. I can't see how any of these numbers are going to get better over the next few months as Florida just passed New York for the highest total number of cases. The lagging deaths that follow the initial positive cases will continue to increase.
It will be difficult for Desantis to recover politically as this continues to worsen. His Covid touchdown dance in May will likely haunt him forever politically.

Florida has been trending toward Biden too. Trump and Biden were even at the beginning of April. Biden now leads by 7.1 points according to 538.

You can write as many emotion based paragraphs as you want. Its great Cuomo "looks" like a "leader" to you now.

The facts are New York has more Covid 19 deaths than the COMBINED death totals from California, Texas, Florida, and Georgia. Educate yourself with the facts.

Can't get access to the article. But I can access the Washington Post Covid 19 death tracker.

Per WAPO Covid 19 death tracker 9 out of the 10 highest Covid 19 state deaths totals are in states with democratic governors. Has WAPO done individual stories on all the mistakes made by these 9 democratic governors?

Or did WAPO just jump down to #21 in deaths per capita (Florida) for a story on Desantis?

Thanks for highlighting the ridiculous sentence in the beginning with the false statement followed behind it. The science is not on their side here by any means. State of Florida should be a damn good example of what happens when you ignore science.

Are you really that naive? If the virus had gone to Florida first, it would have been devastating. Even with 6 months to get ready, they have more cases than New York. Let that set in. Desantis is failing MISERABLY !

I know the facts - do you? I was the one who told you this was coming (Florida, Georgia, Texas, Cal), when you were denying it.

Florida doesn't have a natural spreader like the NY subway system - just stupidity, and they also had medicine, PPE and lessons learned from New York that help them avoid many of the deaths. Something New York never got. But you will obviously never admit THAT.
