Obviously it is much easier to have a good offense when you have great players but regardless everyone on Purdue is good enough to cut and pass.

I'm a big Purdue fan but this is how motion offense should look.

Idk what Painter thinks motion offense is.

Looks like they are playing in sand! It's amazing when watching this how much better athletes players are now. Even their fast breaks were slow. I get your point about movement and the motion offense, but the slowness of play is what grabbed me. I'm 50 so I remember watching this era of basketball "live", God it makes me feel old!

P.S. Buckner could barely dribble with his left hand can't believe teams didn't take advantage of that.

I agree, but Buckner was before my time though so I do not know much about that. I am very disappointed with our offensive movement though I don't know how a coach thinks he can be successful with our current offense.

The problem with Painter's motion versus Knight's is simply this: Painter yells "MOVE! MOVE! MOVE!"

Knight just called a time-out to say "MOVE, YOU MOTHERFUC*ERS, OR I GODDA*N GUARAN-FUC*IN'-TEE YA THAT WE'LL ALL ENJOY WATCHING FUC*IN' BENSON, MAY, AND BUCKNER RUNNIN' THE FUC*ING STAIRS WHEN WE GET BACK TO FUC*ING ASSEMBLY-FUC*ING HALL ALL GODDA*N NIGHT, AND BY GOD I'LL GO DRAG WILKERSON OUT OF HIS FUC*ING HOSPITAL BED AND HE'LL RUN TOO! IF YOU SH*THEADS THINK I CAME ALL THE FUC*ING WAY TO THE GODDA*N CITY OF BROTHERLY FUC*ING LOVE TO GET MY ASS BEAT BY JOHNNY FUC*ING ORR AND THE GODDA*N UNIVERSITY OF FUC*ING MICHIGAN WOLVERINES, YOU'RE OUTTA YOUR FUC*ING MINDS! NOW GET YOUR ASSES MOVING! JESUS CHRIST, MOVE FOR FUC*'S SAKE! FUC*ING BRING IT IN, GODDA*N IT, TEAM ON THREE!"

You are being too nice. There should be at least 8-10 more F**ks in there. Have you ever seen the Bobby Knight Golf Lesson video on YouTube? Scarface like.

No shot clock
No three point shot
Fifteen scholarships for more depth
I'm not a Painter fan, not at all , but comparing then to now isn't apples to apples.
Painter needs to adjust his recruiting
Painter needs to hire better assistant coaches
Painter needs to acquire better in game management skills
Painter needs to prepare and train his players to compete better
Painter needs to become a closer
A closer in recruiting
A closer in tight games
A closer in post season play
Can or will he?
?????????????????????????????????????
Not so much after 11 + years.

I was in school at the same time as Matt at Purdue.

I knew him them and I know him now and I will say not many people care about Purdue more than him.

He is trying his best and besides some minor set backs personally for him, he is taking Purdue to new levels both internally and externally.

Believe in the process and know that good things are to come.

Purdue does not need the blue chips to be great......it is a team game and Purdue has proven a tight knit family environment with everyone playing their role and being accountable will get us championships.

Sure if we can get the Blue Chips the process is easier, but either way no guarantee.

Keep your head down, work hard, play hard and stay focused and good things will happen.

The Post season stuff is a combination of a great team and luck.

That is proven by our record against IU head to head....we have had the better teams by the win loss record, but haven't had the luck to go with it in the Big Dance.

It will happen soon because Matt Painter and his staff works tirelessly to make that happen.

Believe in it and it will happen...support positive 110%!

Boiler Up!

Very inspiring testimonial.

If you are truthful and I don't have evidence to contest your points or to question your veracity.

Then for crying out loud CMP, GET IT DONE !

Buckner couldn't shoot either. Great defender though.

There are several types of motion offense. You should read some instruction books on the motion sometime.

CMP seems like a standup guy who cares deeply for his alma mater. It would be nice to see him have a run in the tourney.

Not to be the "fact check police" but during the stretch of the NCAA tourney IU has the head to head lead like 80 something to 60 something. Purdue has had some good teams while IU had a few dominant teams and a few teams that clicked at the right time.

Okay genius.

My point is if there isn't much movement it will not be an effective motion offense.

If you want to play me 1 v 1 meet at the co-rec any time this weekend.

11 by 1s and 2s. I will personally guarantee you won't have more than 7 and winner gets $50.

If you don't want to play please never comment on my posts cause you are ignorant and scared.

What the hell does playing someone one on one have to do with basketball knowledge. Your post seems very childish. I would love to come down a play, but I am 44 and way past my prime. Graduated from Purdue when you probably weren't even a gleam in your daddy's eyes. I am sure you could take me in one on one. I don't think this determines if I or you know more about basketball.

This is a great idea. We should have a 64 player one on one PUMBB forum regulars tournament. Heck, increase it to 128. I'm 55 and I'll play. I'll show some of these whippersnappers. Bring oxygen and a defib, just in case.

At 42 I had no problem playing in a hot gym in July and August with the high school players and recent graduates, but at 62 I know what you mean.. :) My mind says go and the body says no...

Man I'm not a prick I would not take his fifty bucks, I'm just rustling his jimmies. But having said that I think he should be the one reading a motion offense book because "A motion offense is a category of offensive scheme used in basketball. Motion offenses use player movement, often as a strategy to exploit quickness of the offensive team or to neutralize a size advantage of the defense."

I must admit motion offense is a broad term and many coaches run it different ways. However, when Purdue uses minimal movement I doubt many would say our motion offense is effective. Especially when comparing it Bobby Knights. Knight didn't invent it but he sure did put it on the map.

But offer still stands I'll play whoever! And no playing doesn't directly translate to knowledge but anyone who watches me and my squad play will know that we understand the game of basketball.

Youth and enthusiasm are overcome by experience and treachory every time.

This. Is. The. Greatest. Idea. Ever. Posted. On. This. Board.

In preparation for the tournament I just want to warn everybody that the last time I played at the Co-Rec I tried to go all AJ Hammons and I sent somebody to the hospital with an inadvertent throat shot.

I retired shortly thereafter.

I think that you are underselling the Purdue half court offense. During the past Big Ten season, Purdue was third in scoring, fourth in field goal percentage, fifth in three point percentage, and second in offensive rebounding percentage. Movement was with a purpose, as Purdue was always trying to create space for the bigs and shots for its three point shooters. Mathias, in particular, was always on the move, but none of the guys on this team were standing around and waiting for things to happen. Purdue was not without flaws last season, but the half court offense was excellent at getting quality shots.

This season I think that it will be even better. I think that Purdue will be top 10 nationally in offensive efficiency.

As far as your Co-Rec team is concerned, you have to be joking. I am sure that Tom Izzo would have no idea how to deal with you Co-Rec team's motion offense.

It's hard to argue with a 5 year old. It is pretty obvious he is just learning the game and now thinks he has all the answers. This is funny. I've been challenged to a gunfight at the OK Corral.

Of all the things you can dog Coach Painter on, this is not one of them. A good coach starts with a foundation principle and then adjusts based on personnel. Running pick and roll with Smooge and JJ was absolutely the right thing to do. Playing thru the post with AJ was absolutely the right thing to do.

I think you'll see a lot more high post/low post with Biggie/Isaac this year and I think it will absolutely be the right thing to do.

Thank God our coach isn't as rigid as you apparently are.

You are the one who seems childish when you don't understand the difference between a serious comment and a troll.

What seems obvious is that you are unsatisfied with life and your career. Given how often you comment on the rivals forum and your foul language.

I would guess mid thirties, mediocre marriage, and a forgettable career.

If you played basketball it was most likely at a small school and you were given spot minutes.

Your are the type of guy who would credit CMP for the Michigan State win fully believing that our team played great. When in reality Rapheal Davis went unconscious from deep and as a result we won purely through luck.

So if that is the case, can we excuse Painter for the UALR loss. Because UALR made a couple of ridiculously lucky shots down the stretch to win the game.

Just want to make sure we are consistent, even if it is consistently stupid.

I'm staying out of the insults and co-rec challenges, but this comment I would like to address. No game is won or lost "purely through luck". This is especially true when two good teams like PU and MSU meet. There are 40 (or in this case 45) minutes of play that lead to the outcome. Luck is not the reason.

I have never commented on UALR game. Having said that Painter can control what offense his team runs, but he cannot control what shots other teams make.

Painter deserves to be coaching college basketball and has many good qualities. Personally though I would like him to change his offense or to leave Purdue. Rapheal won us that game and set his career high for three pointers made. He pulled up on a fast break and made one. He had one of those days where whatever he seemed to shoot was going in and we won by 1 point in overtime. He will never again have a game like that so yes I would say luck played a big factor.

When I was in college I took a calc 3 exam. I studied for thirty hours that week and when I got to the test I could only answer 4 of the 12 questions. I guessed on the rest of the exam ended and ended up getting 8 right, with the curve I got an A on that test. It wasn't luck that I passed that exam but it was luck I got an A.

more than a couple of lucky shots...just two that really stand out

You're using one players performance over 45 minutes and disregarding all the other players and plays that took place over those 45 minutes. It wasn't luck, it was two closely matched teams playing a very close game.

Also, you have moved the goal posts. In your first post you said it was "solely" luck and now you say it was a "big factor". Either way, I disagree with that premise.

Some would say that Izzo played the odds on Davis beating them from the outside and we know what happened. Two coaches, two teams and many adjustments to players and team tendencies...
