What is up with Isaac Haas?

I don't understand why they weren't playing Haas 25 minutes a game or until he fouled out the last ten games. The refs need to learn Haas and Haas needs to learn how to adjust. I am going with the guess that Haas has been hurt and if he hasn't I would join Biggie in the draft.

We need Haas in top physical and mental condition if we want to go to the Final Four and where the ref's ticky tack fouls won't be called.

BTW, for the poster who says Biggie's # have been slightly off. Could it be because he is playing center rather than PF? I bet his FG % would go up if posting a PF.

If Haas was playing 25 minutes a game, he'd be far from "top physical condition" right now.

Are you saying if he was playing 25 minutes a game he would be far from top physical condition? Are you suggesting he play 40 minutes a game or just 35? I like the way you think, but 30 minutes apiece in the tournament games should be enough to get us in the final four. You are right, our front line should dominate and mix well with our 3 point shooters. Our size will wear down a lot of teams and then intermittently we put in our speed burners as a nice change of pace.

in regards to Haas, Im more concerned about his issues like not being able to hold onto the ball, missing dunks or bunnies, and not making a move quick enough. Just go up and do a nice turn around jumper instead of sticky out the elbow , tripping thru a double team, or 3 second call.
I love me some Isaac Haas, unfortunately his moves are not of the quick variety, I know he is 7'2" and weighs 250 plus. Catch the ball and go to the hoop, the longer you think, hold, show the ball, the worse things will get. Catch it, shoot it or pass it.
That being said I'm glad he is a Boiler, for the Rest of this year and next!!

No, I'm saying he'd be worn out if he was playing 25+ minutes every single game. The reason Haas can be very effective is he comes in fresh when other teams are worn out. A worn out Haas is not going to be very effective on both ends.

He also had the tail-bone injury earlier this season. Maybe he isnt back to 100% or reagrevated it wrestling?

Oh I see and that is why some of his best games were when he started.

This is a logical reason to why he isn't playing more. Let's pray he will be healed in time for the tournament. We need Haas to go deep into the tournament.

We really need VE to be consistently good to go deep in the tournament. Having Haas play better certainly would help too.

It's all about match ups with Isaac. When he doesn't have a someone with size to go up against, he can struggle on both ends and I think he gets frustrated trying to get a feel for what he can and can't do.

That being said, the fact of the matter is he's often significantly larger than other players he's up against. So his sheer size and strength can basically manhandle people, which gives the appearance of a foul. Not saying it's right or wrong, but I don't think in every instance the refs are doing a bad job.

NW doubled him and Swanigan when they got the ball - Swanigan got his points, but wasn't overly efficient in doing so. They both need to do a better job of being more decisive (some of Swanigan's plays remind me of Hammons - way too slow to develop and it basically telegraphs what you're going to do). NW was also pretty effective against Haas in the first game as well.

There's a good chance in both tournaments we'll play against a team that doesn't match-up with a traditional center. Having the size of Haas can be a great thing, but it can also put you in a bad spot if not utilized effectively (which isn't necessarily the fault of player or coach - sometimes others teams are just good at preventing it, like NW was for 2 games).

I think you're also going to see Swanigan doubled in almost every game from here on out. Swanigan has struggled in those situations, so we just need to be smart with the ball and keep turnovers low, and continue doing a great job of finding open teammates who have shown to be effective with the ball.
I think your reference to Biggie and AJ being indecisive is mostly a function that when they get the ball...the first option is to score rather than pass it out and reset. Other teams know that and so they have to decided what they have. IF they were not the offensive threat they were...they could pass it out really quick...but if they were not the offensive threat....the other team doesn't care if they throw it back out. I'm not sure it is as much them as playing through them as needed. That said, they can take too long and error, just like moving too quick and not letting the D shift. Timing is everything...

This may be just from watching them so much, but you could usually tell when Hammons was going to keep the ball and shoot - and Swanigan is very similar. You can tell when he's made that decision and it rarely changes after that (which can lead to a couple bad shots a game). Swanigan is much better than Hammons at passing out to his teammates, something I wish Hammons did a bit more. But we're also a better perimeter shooting team this year, which makes it more appealing.
