I think we'd all assume Michigan would win vs. Illinois, but Illinois has put together some good games lately (and bad....losing to Rutgers).

Will be a tough first game - if we face Michigan, we should put Swanigan on Wagner again right? ha

O wow I think Im wrong.. wow that sucks massively to have to play michigan as our girst game most likely.. wow not happy about that at all

so , if michigan wins and there is a four way tie at 10-8 , who has what seed?

If Michigan wins and Wisconsin wins...
#1 Purdue plays winner of #8 Michigan/#9 Illinois
Winner of #12 Nebraska/#13 Penn State plays #5 Michigan State
#4 Minnesota plays winner of that

If Michigan wins and Minnesota wins...
Wisconsin replaces Minnesota as the #4 seed in the scenario above (and Minnesota goes to the other side of the bracket as #2).

If Michigan loses and Wisconsin wins...
Same scenario as if Mich/Wisc wins...except the #12 seed becomes Ohio State vs. Penn State

I'm for Minnesota and Michigan. Push Minnesota to the other side of the bracket, and start off against an opponent with as high of BMI/RPI as possible.

I agree, Casey. IMO: Purdue can defeat any B1G team on a neutral floor. (Note, I'm not saying WILL, just that they CAN.) I don't think Purdue has to duck anybody.

Let's play the best possible opponents in DC. Teams that will help Purdue's RPI/seed if we win and not hurt it much or at all if we lose.

It'd be nice to beat Michigan, Wisconsin, and then Minnesota for the BTT title. That would put us at 10-4 vs. RPI Top 50 teams and 3-3 against the RPI Top 25. Also, 11-1 over the last 12 games, if that metric actually counts for anything. Still may not be enough to bump somebody down from a 3 seed, but it'd be close.

Agreed. Yes, Purdue can beat anyone. But quite frankly, I think most teams could beat anyone on a neutral floor in this tournament.

I'd like to be challenged as much as possible (and also to play as much as possible ha). I don't think we're really rolling on all cylinders right now - we have some individual players not playing great, and we've been a bit inconsistent, which is not a recipe for success in single elimination tournaments...

Michigan, Minny, and then Maryland/Wisconsin is the likely path Purdue will have to take to win the championship. That would add three more very nice neutral site wins to the resume. Of course, it rarely plays out exactly as expected. The matchups are tough, but that is actually the best scenario for Purdue's hopes to get a high seed. Purdue is likely a four seed if they win atleast one game, but you can never be sure with the committee. In order to sniff a 3 seed, they would need help with a couple of upsets ahead of them.

I'm not sure there's ANY likely path at this point.

Purdue could lose any of these games, as could basically any other team. I'm glad we would be challenged with some 'uncomfortable' match-ups with some of the favorites, but we also have to win to get there. I'm not gonna be devastated if we don't go all the way, but if we don't - I hope we at least can learn some stuff with some of the match-up problems we face.

My gut is that even winning the BTT will have little effect on our Dance seeding. I'm betting the committee already has us tagged as a 4-5 and no better.

Likely......WIN=4 LOSE=5 Not a lot of respect for the B1G nationwide.

You could be right. However, I think the committee is looking for a BIG team to separate itself from the pack. Is Purdue really a seed line or 2 better than the rest of the BIG? We won the regular season, but against an uneven schedule that Kenpom says was the 12th hardest. If we win the BIG tournament, then I think the committee has to see us as ahead of the rest and seed us higher. If, like last year, a 3 seed or lower wins the tournament, then the committee may view us not much better than the rest of the BIG and seed us lower.

I agree, 100%.

Maybe it's true that Purdue can't do that much in DC that will either help or hurt its NCAA seed. But, the prospect of playing Michigan and Minnesota on Friday and Saturday will really help this team prepare for the NCAA tournament and the possibility of getting matched up against teams that don't play Purdue's style.

Again, I'm not trying to overlook anyone (especially not Illinois), and it's no given that Purdue would beat Michigan in a rematch. But, I am saying that this B1G tournament bracket can be great preparation for the NCAA tournament for Purdue.

I mean, as we all know - seeding is not something we single-handedly control. There could be things that occur in other conferences that affect our seeding. Or if we do something and another team doesn't - it could give us an edge. We also don't know where we stand - we could be the highest spot #5 seed right now, so a good run in the BTT could result in a #4 seed if other teams lose. We could be the last spot #4 seed, so a one and done in the BTT could bump us down to a #5 if other teams do ok.

Last year, I think people put a lot of stock into our BTT run and expected it to result in a big seeding bump. But the fact of the matter is we didn't really play anyone great in the BTT. We played a bad Illinois team, then played a bubble Michigan team, then lost. This year, in theory if we advanced, we could play a solid in-the-field tournament team in each round. That's assuming there's no upsets (including us getting upset). Last year, we should have played Iowa in the first game, which would have been a pretty solid tournament team, but they got upset by Illinois.
