They're not a good team. Whether Blackmon plays or not shouldn't matter.

Thursday will be their super bowl. We better come to play.
Yeah today was a double whammy for us. We needed that whiskey loss. If Iu loses Thursday, they would damn near have to win out or win the B1G tourney to get in the NCAA. Not that they were going to take the game lightly, but they are backed against the wall now. I have concerns that the officiating will reflect that. Still should win, but I think I am developing a heart murmur from some of these close games

Many IU fans are hoping you will put the nail in the coffin on Thursday. Fortunately for Crean though the 3s are always raining during big games at the Hall. I expect RJ, JBJ, Newkirk, etc to shoot over 60% from 3.

To be really honest, we will be every bit as motivated to beat them and we are just better. This is a special Purdue team. If we can survive that officiating debacle at Maryland, Ass Hall will be mild

No way we come out of there with a 20 point win. No way. They gave Wisky one hell of a fight today. We better not take this game lightly or we'll get our asses handed to us. You can't count on both hands the times against IU the underdog won somehow.
IU is going to give us their best game of the season. It's a rivalry game and they are fighting for their NCAA tourney lives and I expect that even crean realizes that and they will be ready.

We are better on "paper" sure, but in this series that really has never mattered like you said.

I'm expecting to get their best Thursday night. Couple that with the home cooking that they typically receive and what we have is a very close game. I'll be pleasantly surprised with a win.

If anyone (everyone?) thought officiating was bad on Saturday, just wait til Thursday. Biggie may foul out in the first half.

May not be a "good" team, but, they remain a talented team...and, they are a very difficult matchup personnel-wise for Purdue.

I would gladly settle for a win of any margin, but, it will be extremely difficult...a far more talented and deeper UNC team went in there earlier this year and was flat our run out of the building.

When IU loses, it is often because they are their own worst enemy...Purdue has yet to show with any consistency that they are capable of being good on the road, never mind the fact that with the rivalry, it is ALWAYS a difficult place to win, even in the rare situations where Purdue is a far better team.

Carson needs to be very careful not to get in foul trouble. They will be looking to take charges on him. We need him on the floor, especially at the end of the game. I look for Cline to have a big game as well.

Yes, because rivalry games are always guarantees. FYI, 3 top ten teams lost to unranked teams at home just yesterday alone.

C'mon Lenny, I'd love to see a big win as much as anyone....but as many others have stated, and I posted in another thread, it's hardly ever easy for Purdue in Bloomington, even when they have a superior team.

You know when the last time Purdue won by at least 20 in Assembly Hall? If the Boilers somehow did that on TH, it would be the first, from my understanding. 17 was the biggest spread I could find ('77).

I expect it's going to be a hornet's nest....fortunately, most of the Boilers have experienced it a couple of times.....CE will find out quickly. Poise and mental toughness, and a little bit of good fortune....and even that might not be good enough if Indiana gets really hot from deep. I do like how the Boilers are getting stronger mentally (at least to me), so I think they have a decent shot. Can't have the kind of drought/poor execution they had a good chunk of last year's game.

I'm not worried about CE one bit. He's no longer a freshman; he's played 'Nova, at Lville, at Msu, at MD, I don't think ass hall will phase him. I'm more worried about Biggie controlling his emotions if things are going his way. He tends to get frustrated and it can impact his game.

Oh I hear you about CE....not saying it will necessarily phase him, but it's something you just have to experience for yourself. That's a good point with CS.....they'll definitely try to frustrate him one way or another. He had 14/8 last year in 28 minutes...4-9 FT (that should be better this time around). This is the game to be the leader.....he and DM.

UNC was run out of the building 76-67. A nine point win st home is running someone out of the building? Maybe you were thinking of Houston Baptist.

This is as much a must win for Purdue as it is for them if we want a great seed. Cannot keep following great wins with stupid losses. No matter what it takes Purdue needs this game. POTFH

If you can keep our offensive rebounds to a reasonable number, you'll win. That's one area that people hardly talk about, but we get a ton of possessions from offensive rebounding.

I hate Crean but he has figured out how to attack the glass, particularly on the offensive end (they come from the outside and shoot down lanes vs traditional boxing out).

You keep that to a reasonable number...you'll win even if we are hitting our threes.

I'm trying to figure out whether you are clueless or are setting up an opportunity to complain if Purdue wins a close game.

Purdue has 10 wins at Assembly Hall (against 32 losses) and has never won by double digits there. 8 of the 10 wins were by 5 or less and they won by 8 in '84 and 9 in '85.

Purdue's turnovers are also a wildcard. While Purdue was a bit shaky on the road on Saturday, they didn't turn the ball over a lot (while this is not an exact science, particularly with fouls, Purdue had 5 more FG attempts than Maryland).

ZZ,

Not to detract from your premise but just to correct the record, I think the Boilers have done it once.....1977, 80-63 under Schaus. I also think it was Purdue's first win in that facility.

particularly in the second half....I think just four. Two halves like that with the turnovers, and I give the Boilers an even better shot.

IU is desperate for a win in this game. They need it for their fans, they need it for Crean and they absolutely need it for their NCAA hopes. To think that this is going to be an easy game for Purdue is a fantasy in my opinion. Is Purdue the better team? Yes, but this an intense rivalry game at the other guy's gym. I hope Purdue wins but I don't think that it will be easy.

Is blackmon supposed to be back?
If so, force him left and don't give him looks from the top of the key.

I'd be happy with a 1 point win, but I think we put it to them a little bit.
I think our half court O is better than their D and if their heater skelter O isn't clicking, we can create nice seperation.

IU will try to knock Purdue out early. They will take a bunch of 3's and if they are falling could build a double digit lead. Purdue just has to weather the early storm and keep the game within range and stick to their game plan. I don't see IU winning without JBJ. His defense will be poor but if he is on he could easily sink 4 or 5 3's and get some easy layups. A matchup to watch is what will Bryant do. If he gets in foul trouble then I don't see how IU can pull off the win even shooting well because Haas and Biggie would control the paint. Bryant's defense doesn't really concern me but his ability to take and hit some 3's would force Haas to the bench because he cannot cover a man that far from the basket. When Morgan and Davis are in the post for them is when we need to pound it inside because those 2 just aren't cut out to guard Purdue's bigs. They'll also go at Biggie right away and I expect some flopping on the defensive end to try and get a cheap foul on him. Just like with Purdue you can almost guarantee IU will make some very sloppy turnovers and give Purdue a chance for a comeback at some point in the game. Just have to take advantage of them and keep Biggie and Haas out of foul trouble.

We are a better team this year but weaker on defense especially in the paint. Last year we battled back even when the game looked like it was over and were it not for an awful goal tending call against Hammons we may have even won. IU was far and away a better team last year compared to their injury ridden team this year. If we limit their open 3's and don't put ourselves in poor positions where refs can make some ticky tacky calls then Purdue wins. IU is a team on the verge of a complete meltdown and if things get messy for them early they may fold for the remainder of the season. The close game @ Wisconsin shows they haven't completely given up hope and a win against Purdue and .500 conference record gets them in the tourney easily in my opinion.

IU will throw everything at us including things from the stands. It wouldn't shock me if we lost this game because of that too. They aren't a better team but that never matters in these rivalry games.

As others said they are going to be jacking 3's all night and will live and die by it.
