ESPN posted their top 50 list today: http://www.espn.com/mens-college-ba...080/cbbrank-top-50-players-college-basketball

Here are the Purdue player write-ups:

38. Vincent Edwards, Purdue Boilermakers
This summer when Purdue represented the United States at the World University Games, Edwards averaged 19 points and seven rebounds. Nominally a 6-foot-8 power forward, the senior is also a career 39 percent shooter from beyond the arc.

42. Isaac Haas, Purdue Boilermakers
Throughout his career, Haas has thrived playing regular but limited minutes alongside fellow big men like A.J. Hammons and Caleb Swanigan. Now those guys are gone, and the spotlight belongs to the 7-foot-2 senior.

48. Carsen Edwards, Purdue Boilermakers
As Edwards logged more minutes in his freshman season, his accuracy improved markedly both at the line and from 3-point range. In his sophomore campaign, the 6-foot guard will look to share the ball with fellow top-50 teammates while improving his success rate on 2s.

I'm not trying to throw expectations through the roof for those who haven't seen us play this season, but there aren't 47 players better than C-Boogie in the college game.

Yet ESPN said we were the most likely to disappoint. ESPN does not know how to put 2 and 2 together.

Exactly. Purdue has 3 top 50 players, but has failed to make some of the early top 25 lists ESPN put out this summer.

The Kansas loss was bad and Biggie is a big loss, but there is no respect from ESPN for this team as a whole. Can't wait for the season to start.

Even with all the firings, they still have like ~30 cbball writers/analysts at ESPN. Why in the world are your expecting a consistent message from such a big entity?

I'm sure there are plenty of boiler doubters and also plenty of believers. Not any different from this site.

Also, we're #4 in their own BPI, yet didn't make the top 25 in their Power Rankings. I get that they have a bunch of writers, but they could at least make an effort to be consistent.

Very good point. ESPN has many different voices and perspectives.

I’m surprised that they ranked 3 Boilers in the top 50. If the three can all live up to those rankings, Purdue will have a great season.

trust the metric rather than random subjective writers.

if anything, with their rating declines, id imagine even more catering to typical powerhouses than in the past

Agreed. Michigan State has two in the top 50, yes one is Miles Bridges at #1 but overall you compare that with where the Purdue players are and you wonder how we're not close to the top 10 or in it. Also Minnesota and NW don't have any players on this list, yet according to ESPN they are ranked above us.. makes no sense

Doesn’t matter were they r ranked now it’s how they finish their season when it will all count. They will prove their worth. Rankings are opinions and many never turn out to b right when season ends. Leave it at n the court

Nojel looked good in the Carrol game! Did you go to the scrimmage yesterday?

We are #4 in BPI. #12 in John Gasaway rating. Not in the top 25 of Jeff Borzello's ranking. There may be others that I am unaware of.

Rankings mean something. If the season were over today, WVU would be getting a 2 or 3 seed. We'd be getting a 4 or 5.

People base their opinions on a team first from preseason rankings and by who is coming back for the team, who you lost from a team, etc... and then judge them on it all season long. The lower you start, the harder it is to move up the rankings during the year. If you win some big games you move up a few spots, but if you lose games here and there, especially games you "shouldn't lose" you drop a lot and possibly out of the top-25.

My hope is Purdue just doesn't lose any games this year, we get a #1 seed, win it all and take IU's last perfect season bragging rights.

I think ESPN wants to give Purdue props but they're scared to because of how our tournaments been the last 20 years. I think they're saying we're going to have a good team but let's see what they do in the tournament. To most people that's all that counts. So let's go Boilermakers let's go prove everybody wrong.

I know I shouldn't get this excited about college basketball but damn I am. I think Matt Painter has put a really good team together so excited.

I guarantee you the B1G coaches know how good Dakota is. The general narrative is that he is a good player that does many things well but nothing great. The truth is, he is our best shooter, passer and perimeter defender. I think he's our MVP.
You can tell how much Matt Painter values him from the number of minutes that he plays.

ESPN has never respected Purdue so kind of unrealistic to expect that to change. But as I have said before, I prefer we “ walk softly and carry a big stick”.

And Dakota and PJ are unbelievable system players that may not put up numbers but they do exactly what is needed. Both are very good at 3 and D. PJ is incredibly efficient with the ball and both are good passers. There aren't many more complete starting fives and Purdue is a deep team this year. Purdue will be susceptible to a super athletic team that gets hot, but so are most teams. I really like Purdue's chances this year. A final four could be a realistic chance. Especially if some of the top teams have coaches or players suspended due to the FBI investigation (although, it's unlikely there is any resolution this year for that).
