Updated KenPom B1G standings projection

Hard to imagine it doesn't come down to the final Friday night in Champaign.

Back part of the conference schedule is really interesting, not just for Purdue, which has to be all-hands-on-deck mentality.

Similarly to 2019, Michigan and Michigan State play twice toward the end. Michigan State plays Michigan twice, @ Illinois and hosts Purdue among its last seven games. Oregon looks to have the most favorable (on paper).....you never know for sure, but there definitely are some potential really good match-ups down the stretch.

Long, long way to go before that, and other teams could fight their way into the mix.

Last 7 games:

Purdue - @ Michigan, Wisconsin, @ Michigan State, @ Indiana, UCLA, Rutgers, @ Illinois (pack your hard hat)

Illinois - @ Minnesota, UCLA, Michigan State, @ Wisconsin, Iowa, @ Michigan, Purdue

Michigan State - @ Illinois, Purdue, @ Michigan, @ Maryland, Wisconsin, @ Iowa, Michigan

Michigan - @ Ohio State, Michigan State, @ Nebraska, Rutgers, Illinois, Maryland, @ Michigan State

Oregon - Northwestern, Rutgers, @ Iowa, @ Wisconsin, USC, Indiana, @ Washington

Purdue road looks tough with those 4 tough away games. Not to mention Oregon.
Comparitaviley, Oregon, Mich and Illinois looks like they caught a break.

Unbalanced schedules hard to figure, but certainly leave some with higher probabilities.

Hate the unbalanced schedules. Mega conferences are really messing up the regular season to the point of being meaningless other than for tourney seeds.

Agree a bit here. End up in a tie at like 16-4 with MSU and they beat you but it was at their place by 2…

What do you do there? I think both get trophies but obviously MSU gets the 1 seed by virtue of simply playing us at their place. Hate that.

All teams that are tied for first after the regular season are considered co-champs for Big Ten regular season championship - then it's the tie-breakers applied for BTT seeds, and if they only played once, it's going to be the single-game winner getting the top seed. The other seeding can get quite tangled with the unbalanced schedules and records of common games among/between tied teams.

There have been several two-way and three-way ties over the years. Purdue has been involved in two 3-way ties in the NCAA tournament era, IIRC - '79 (with Michigan State and Iowa) and '10 (with Michigan State and Ohio State).

There is also the infamous footnoted four-way tie in '02 with Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio State @ 11-5, which is now in the books as a 3-way tie after Ohio State had to vacate games.

Thanks for posting this breakdown.

MSU - ILL is a huge game. ILL winning would prove theory that MSU has played overall weak schedule and isn't really a contender. With that being said I think I want MSU to win and give ILL another loss for the conference race. I still think MSU has several losses coming once they hit meat of schedule. We'll see....

Purdue - Oregon very important too. With that Penn State loss growing sour by the week, Purdue needs to steal a tough road game they're not favored in to make up for it. Oregon needs some losses now since that last 7 looks so easy too. Really do not want them winning B1G basketball and football their first regular season, lol.

Side note - OSU looked really bad last night. How did they beat Kentucky? Offense is just iso and jack a contested jumper. They have no post game either. Their 5s make Zed Key look like Hakeem Olajuwon.

I really hope Woodson turns the IU ship around too. They looked great! Keep it up Mike! That is how the best coaches get their teams to respond!

I agree with all your takes. I’m also not a believer in MSU, yet.

Noted....
Two of best players from Indiana and CMP lands and coaches them. Well done CMP .

Small? Thought he was from AZ? Didn't know he was also from Indiana. (SB and Franklin Central.). How did he get away??

Shows again Indiana the hotbed of basketball lol

I consider myself a pretty decent and informed CBB fan. I have never heard of Small, let alone that he is from Indiana. Wild.

That is the benefit of this pretty easy start to the conference SOS wise. Build up a cushion.
Yeah, Purdue got the gentlest start to the B1G schedule imaginable. But 9 of the next 10 are against teams that are at least .500 in conference play. So we'll see.

It's going to be a wild next couple months. I expect turbulence, but I also think Painter and the guys will find a way.

It's like that for all the top teams. Back end of the conference season is gonna be wild.
