The Boneman must have recently learned about the Africans selling captured Africans to the European slave traders. Then, now he and others, I've heard this argument for decades, can now use that tidbit to somehow justify and downplay America's involvement in slavery. Just like other civilizations, Romans, Greeks, Jewish, Philistines, Egyptians, etc. battled each other and captured the enemy. The enemy is now prisoners of war. The Romans turned some of their prisoners of war, along with slaves into Gladiators. Others killed their captors. Others like the African tribesmen sold their captors or prisoners of war to the European and American slave traders. The African tribal victors never hitched a ride on the slave ships and twisted the arms of the Americans in the colonies to own slaves.
If downplaying America's involvement in slavery isn't enough, now the right wingers are banning books related to black history or other black topics such as books on Rosa Parks, MLK, Color Purple, Beloved, and To Kill a Mockingbird. So, from a historical perspective, Owens was right about who was responsible for slavery. Maybe the market for slaves was there, and African tribes provided the product (people) to meet that market demand. It's not as if white Europeans invaded Africa and started rounding up people and putting them on slave ships (although that's the narrative the left would have you believe).
Which makes me curious about why the white Europeans didn't enslave the Native Americans when they came to North America? Serious question.

Perhaps it’s a matter of semantics. Owens says blacks are responsible for slavery. I assume she is talking about the Africans that sold their prisoners of war to the Europeans and Americans. Fine, but she says nothing about the Europeans and Americans that bought, traded and enslaved the Africans for 246 years in the US legally. Not to mention the Caribbean and Latin America.
