Texas A&M Corpus Christi at Purdue: MASTER DISCUSSION THREAD

Do we get an actual banner now? I was there the last time and think we just got a painted square wasn't it? But been 50+ years so I can't really remember too clearly.

Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. It's the start of another season of Purdue basketball, as the Texas A & M Corpus Christi Islanders visit Mackey Arena to take on the #14-ranked Purdue Boilermakers. It's an early tip @ 6:00 pm (Eastern time) with television coverage on the Big Ten Network and the opening game for both schools. This will be the second meeting all-time between the schools. Purdue defeated Texas A & M - Corpus Christi 79-61 back in December of 2006 in Matt Painter's second season as head coach.

Possible Starting Line-ups:

TX A & M - CC

Garry Clark, Dian Wright-Forde, Jordan Roberts, Owen Dease, and Leo Torbor

Purdue

Trey Kaufman-Renn, Will Berg, Gicarri Harris, Fletcher Loyer, and Braden Smith

_________________________________

Junior Braden Smith will lead this Matt Painter coached Purdue Boilermaker team, looking to be a bigger focus of the offense with Zach Edey's departure to the Memphis Grizzlies of the NBA. The other two returning starters, Trey Kaufman-Renn and Fletcher Loyer, will also be counted on to provide scoring production. Expect Purdue to have a number of players take up major minutes in the line-up either as starters or first off the bench, including returners Myles Colvin, Cam Heide, and Caleb Furst, along with newcomers C.J. Cox and Daniel Jacobsen. Freshman Gicarri Harris looks to be a potential two-way player who can provide production on both ends of the floor. Purdue will definitely be a little different on both ends, but you will still see some of the same principles - motion offense - establishing a paint presence on offense......and working inside-out at times. What might be a little different is a few more players working the wings on both ends of the floor.

The Boilers could be a little vulnerable in the paint and on the glass - another aspect of the game where it was more than a luxury to have Zach Edey. TKR, Will Berg, Caleb Furst, and the newcomers will have to generate that via committee for now.....and they will get tested.

The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders won 21 games last season and have topped 20 wins in each of the last 3 years. The Islanders, who finished 2nd in the Southland Conference last season, play New Mexico and New Mexico State next. Garry Clark returns after averaging 13.2 points and 8.1 rebounds, while Dian Wright-Forde averaged 10.4 points and 1.6 assists. Jordan Roberts averaged 1.6 assists per game and Owen Dease played in 655 minutes last season. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi has been one of the better teams in the Southland the last 3 seasons, and it brings back its top-3 scorers from last year. The core of this Texas A&M-Corpus Christi roster is the same, and they could give Purdue a more competitive contest than some might expect. They can play aggressively at times and force some mistakes - will these Boilers be ready to handle it and get the season off to a good start?

We shall see in a couple of hours.....

Boiler Up, my friends....

IIRC, there are banners for the the Helms NC and the 3 FF appearances (2 runner-up and 1 3rd place).

Yes, a banner will be unveiled tonight. One of the twitter handles showed a pic of the rest of them there, with the space for the new one.
