So, with Zach back, what changes?

The B1G used the NCAA balls in the B1G Tourney and Purdue shot 37.7% in the three games which is substantially better than the 32% they hit during the regular season..
Purdue shot .317 in the big ten tourney from three.

Rutgers….. 6. 20.
OSU……….. 7. 15.
Penn State…. 6. 28.

20 out of 63 is 0.317

Here is the balls for the big ten. The ncaa tourney was a wilson ball. So that makes 5 of 11 that I can quickly confirm were different balls than we play with. We did however shoot below .250 on 3s in four home games 🤷🏽‍♂️ (W vs maryland, L vs IU, W vs austin peay, W vs florida a and m)

Nike: Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Penn State, Purdue, Minnesota

Adidas: Indiana, Nebraska, Rutgers

Under Armour: Maryland, Northwestern

Wilson: Wisconsin
I'm shocked that no one has reversed this discussion to wonder how the 5 teams that don't use a Nike shot at Nike schools???

I actually thought of that and just figured there were enough Nike schools that it may have normalized more than the Nike schools using other balls. You just can't parse out the other variables..shooting backgrounds, oppositions team's health and defensive plans...so many variables that cand be in play and are NOT measured. Still, that would be interesting and how do we add strength of team on 3pt D and was the same D played against your team.

So, maybe we just don't have good shooters? Because if it's not mental, then it's got to be physical. I don't believe in the "team is in a collective funk" excuse. I think it's still more of a function of Purdue being scouted and teams taking away what Painter wanted to do, forcing players to make outside shots (which was the right defense to play statistically) and either living or dying with that strategy.
Not only that, but the NCAA Commitee will match up Purdue w/a small ball team going forward. Its what they do.

YISH!!! ,,, "background" did churn my stomach remembering the Silver Dome. Like shooting into a basket floating out in the middle of space.

Seriously with Zach + a bit better shooting + some ability to penetrate & break the press & defense as good as last year, we can win most games.

In the 70’s we had the introduction of the new clear fiberglass backboard. A lot of high schools changed their old wooden backboard to the new fiberglass. Our school was one of the few schools that did not change. Many visiting teams complained about our use of the old backboard as it affected the bounce of the ball on a missed shot or when trying to make a bank shot. Clearly it did have an effect. And our team was undefeated at home. It’s ironic, our school did have the new fiberglass backboards on our practice court which our team practiced on to prepare for when playing at other schools. The school gave the reasoning of using the old wood backboards stating the fiberglass ones were too expensive to replace if they broke.

A team we beat at home by over 20 points we lost to on the road during the state tournament.

So yes little things can make a difference
