Last year, Loyer was our 4th scorer.
He posted 8, 15, 10, 14, 11, 0 in our NC run.
this year, he’s our third scorer (he’s better as a fourth scorer) and posted 8 points today (we all agree, not a great game by any means).
Since March of last year until now, he has shot near 50% from 3 and is, statistically, one of the best shooters in the country.
With his shooting %, he pulls players away from the rest of the other Purdue players. Do we ever see his man go double TKR or Smith? I don’t think we do because those teams know you can’t let a near 50% 3pt shooter wide open. If smith or another player drives Loyers way, usually, his man does not help off, so it can make it easier for the player driving as the defense doesn’t help off Loyer.
The defense must know where a shooter like Loyer is at all times. The 3ball has become more important, especially for analytics guys, and keeping a shooter like him, who shoots ~50%, from getting many attempts, makes the most sense. Typically, a team would rather let a shooter like Heide or Colvin (both have been around 30%—heide not as much lately) shoot it than fletch. Teams have been more comfortable doubling or helping off those two from fletch.
So, a shooter like fletch, stretches the floor and opens it up for others like Smith and TKR, to operate. He doesn’t have to score all the time to have an impact on the offensive side.
Fletch can play better and he can also be attracting a lot of attention even when he doesn’t shoot. Both can be true. He usually demands the best defender chasing him around constantly when we run our offense. Often times he is demanding two players chasing him off the three point line. That is more valuable than what you are giving it credit for. But yeah, he can do better than he did today.

When this team struggles to score he needs to be a scorer. The last month we have struggled to score in the 2nd half due to either Smith getting tired or TKR getting himself into foul trouble. This team doesn't have ZE anymore and you are not seeing that double near as much.
People are playing straight up against us, because they are playing for TKR to get his points and expecting Smith to get tired. The scheme has been working and this is where scorers like Myles, Cam and/or Fletch need to score not just be a shooter on the perimeter. We rebounded well today because people became scorers and not just shooters.
Ok. If you want to think that way, that’s cool. Hope he bounces back next game and helps get us to a 6th S16 in 8 years.
Yes, he attracts attention. He's a player on the court, but there have been many games lately where this team needs scorers. Today we win because of that exact reason. If we depended on Loyer to score today and don't get the production from the bench this could have been an L.

Oh, I agree. I just want more production out of him. If we don't see the weight is all on BS then I'm not sure what to tell you guys.
We need Loyer to be productive from an offensive point to take that pressure off of BS.
I think we all want that. If he can get open and actually shoot that would be great. When it comes down to it I think we all want him to be in his element. A sweet 16 would be great. I just wanna beat Mcneese cause if we don’t I’m gonna have to listen to how we lost to a double digit seeded team…even though we can all agree that the bracket is kinda screwed this year. I’ve never seen anything quite like this years bracket
If you watch faces during the game, time-outs, and after the game, Berg seems very happy as does most of the players on the team. I think what was said about Painter and someone leaving as fact, was a misinterpretation. I can see Waddel maybe looking elsewhere because he has enough talent to be starting somewhere else but then, he's been a Boiler all his life. The ones I see not smiling on the bench are Burgess and Myles. That said, I never wanted players who were happy in a substitute role.

I am guessing he is injured and doesn’t trust he can go 100%. He was timid on some of the loose balls today that he usually goes for

I hope you are wrong. I see Myles becoming a starter at some point next year and Burgess in 2 years.
He's earned his keep several times over.
He's shooting 48% overall and the same from the arc and he's over 80% from the line.
He's scored 100 more points in the regular season this year vs. last year.
And he doesn't force or take bad shots very often which helps the team's overall chance to win.
I for one, hopes he comes back and starts next year.

I would prefer for Myles to start and bring Loyer off the bench. I just think Myles could do so much more for this team starting.....could be completely wrong. My wife will tell you that's a true statement.
I think Myles is more athletic than Fletch, but I don't think he's as basketball savvy. He's improved some this season, but if he were going to be as good as some on here believe, I personally think he would show more on both ends of the court by now.

This year I think there are some teams that were seeded incorrectly. And it seems really off this year more so than in recent memory.
I think the SEC getting so many teams in kinda screwed things up. North Carolina, West Virginia. Things just seem “off” this year. Don’t want to spend too much time going through everything, but there are upsets that aren’t really upsets at all this year. So far my bracket is perfect because I took the common sense pick. None of the “upsets” today have been upsets.
As far as Fletch goes he needs to either get open or we need to find someone who can be aggressive and create their own shots. The ability to play defense helps as well
Stretching the floor is great. 35 minutes of stretching the floor. You’re talking about a secondary perk of someone being effective at what they do. What we need is more shot attempts from a 50% shooter. We also need defense from that shooter.
Or, if all we want to do is spread the floor, just let him hang out at the half court line on offense. Maybe have him jack up some threes from the logo? All I know is that there is a HUGE difference in shooting 5/10 from the field instead of 1/2.
I just checked today box score and Loyer had the best +\~ for the team at +16. May or not mean something!

We had the NPOTY and an AA PG. Enough said. You see we just played a team of shooters, but we played like scorers and we won. Seriously, it's odd you don't see the difference with such a great bball mind.
Not much because it doesn't show you individual+/-. Usually, in wins players with the most minutes show a positive+/-. Smith and TKR should be pretty close.
I thought it was 6-1, but I could be wrong. Maybe I was misinterpreting your complaint about his scoring average over that period?
and that is why its possible that Fletch could be displaced next year by a more all around threat. He would be fire off the bench I think.

Man, what’s with you? Myles is improving each game since two weeks ago. His plateau is light years from where he is at. Next year is his breakout year.
Painter is never not starting Loyer no matter who we get.

He puts it all together with shooting, rebounding and defense, while showing that athleticism…that’s when he will “plateau”.
It’s his schtick. He doesn’t believe in Myles and never has 😂 can’t ever say anything nice about him. Always a back handed compliment or if he does have a good game he will find one thing he did wrong and harp on that.
