So this breaks the "Braden has to hit 13 or more" to win, correct?

With the tire guard scoring 23 and Braden with 14 assists ( again) he does not need the points against this opponent. Illinois, MSU, Wisconsin and in the tournament he probably does.

He had 8 points? And what a way to do it!!!

14 assists too.....even though his shot wasn't quite falling, IF he takes good shots - that's fine and what Painter wants. Just don't make questionable or risky decisions on either end of the floor.

But yeah - no way many would think with Smith getting just 8 that Purdue would still obliterate Nebraska.

When Purdue gets that kind of effort, energy, and shooting - they will be a handful for a lot of teams......and that kind of defense travels. Really interested to see how they play W and next Sunday.

103 more assists to break Parkinson’s record. If he averages 7 over ROS, then he breaks it at Illinois. If he averages 9 (current avg) he breaks it in 11 games…at…IU. But if be willing to wager he breaks it before then.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, best PG in Purdues history…Point GOD

Surprised the count was only 14. Thought I saw more??

I’m glad to see he got a break. And our guards off the bench were able keep the momentum going

Question for the board, do players get assists on inbounds plays? Smith has hit CJ Cox a few times the past few games for wide open layups on OOB plays, but I don’t think he gets credited with those assists. Is that right?

He does, and Smith got credited with one to CJ after the tie-up - for Purdue's initial basket, 2-0, Purdue's smallest lead for the game. They trailed for 17 seconds. :)

(Note: I'm not sure where there narrative of 13 being the magic number is from. Purdue won against TAMCC(12), NKU(11), Marshall(0), NC ST(11), Neb(8). But maybe that's an inside thing among Purdue fans)

It helps when Cox and Colvin go for 37 combined. Against Auburn, Smith had 8, Cox had 16 and Colvin had 0. And Against A&M, Smith actually ended up with 15 along with Coxs 10 and Colvins 9. But against Penn State, Smith had 6 and Cox/Colvin had 18. Against Marquette, Smith had 11 and Cox/Colvin finished with 0.

For Colvin, I'm not taking much from a 14 point outing. First double digits output since Ole Miss. So as of now, just part of the inconsistency story.

As for Cox, he's scored in double figures in 5 of the last 9. He's had 0 in 2 against Maryland and Minny. Had 2 against Toledo and 5 against Rutgers. But had 12 at Penn State, 10 against A&M, 16 against Auburn, 12 against NW and 23 last night. You're basically getting double figures every other game. So he seems to be picking up steam and becoming a more consistent player, which bodes well for Purdue as they needed something outside the Big 3.

Somewhere, possibly buried on one of these posts (or someplace online, maybe H&R?) someone did a break down on Braden shooting v. wins. It was eye opening. I may have the 13 points wrong, it possibly could have been 13 attempts. In any case it was a pretty direct correlation.

I've been watched the Memphis Grizzley's quite a bit this season for both Zach and that they are a talented and fun bunch to watch. I'm amazed at how Ja Morant has adapted his game and now shoots WAY less than he used to. Getting a lot more assists and not having to work nearly as hard feeding OTHER guys as he did getting his own shot trip after trip.
Eye opening. Probably for him too.
