I remember people kept saying that michigan would be at a disadvantage from the plane mishap. Brian even wrote about it. These are college players playing for the BT title.
Also, I have heard crap about why it's not a bad thing to lose early in conference tournament so they are not too tired come NCAA tournament. I bet michigan would differ.

Now, let's see how they do in the dance. Last year the 2 teams that fought it out in the BIGT flamed out early. We will put this theory to test.
They just won the BT tournament. They might win a few NCAA tournament games. I wouldn't have mind that if I was purdue

Bielein can coach. He's a class act as well.

I have heard negative things about Bielein - that he runs players off because he has better players coming in, that he treated two players badly [Spike was one], and that he is disliked by other coaches????? Has anyone else heard any of this?

Totally agree. They stole what should of been Purdue's. They took that from Purdue. That should of been Purdue property but lolly gagging was more important late in the game. Laying off the gas pedal mattered more. Car was going too fast. They took foot off gas and Michigan swept in and stole Purdue property. Then in overtime 1 point. Anyone who says big ten tournament doesn't matter might want to think about opportunity cost bracket selection wise.

Yes michigan will probably win one or two games in tournament like Purdue. Wish we could have won BT tournament though

I know Painter seems to have a lot of respect for him and vice versa...

Even Jack Owens said the Boilers could use the rest, and would watch tapes after the loss.............these guys aren't robots. Would they rather have won the BTT, sure, but it didn't happen.

they play like they did this week and they will win more than one or two. What does Michigan not have that you would want in a team...other than a bench?

I don't think there's any hostility between Spike and Michigan. He was injured and they had his scholarship slot filled expecting him to graduate.

I think it was more the effort Beilein put in trying to keep him [and another player but not sure who] from going to another school in the Big Ten. Personally I didn't think either of them owed Beilein anything and not sure why he acted like that.

I just wished Purdue would have won the BT tournament. Realistically winning two games in the NCAA tournament would be good. Got to win conference when you can

Beilein gave him no restriction and didn't fight against him going to Purdue

So tell me...seeing how they played the last few days...seeing the talent on the team...how did they lose so many games?

Good question. That is what is so much fun come tournament time
Yeah, but a serious question. That team has some talent. Look at the length, skill level and athleticism he puts out on the floor. If Michigan doesn't revert..I may take them over Louisville because they can score and have the length to play and beat the only team I thought actually BEAT Purdue this year

Reality is PU, should be well rested by TipOff Thursday, no excuses anywhere except, maybe the Busdriver went Right instead of left at I-80 and I-65.....coming from a Busdriver
Time to Hammer Down Boilers!!

Not BlockM2, and he has seen more games this year again than I have up here in balmy Northern Ontario, but the team just got better in the second half.

Walton spearheaded the uptick. He's been amazing, and took charge.

Donlon's D caught on.

The loss of a very winnable home game to OSU looks like the turning point.

It's like someone flicked a switch, seems that way, but they lost some very close games.

Zack Irvin did not have a very good first half of the season, but like Walton, he caught fire down the stretch and started driving more rather than taking bad shots and pressing.

Not a five-star synopsis, but best I can do.

Best of luck to the Boilers, who I find fun to watch, more relaxed fun when they're not playing Michigan.

I assume that was to me. Thank you I appreciate that and in a subtle way knew Belien was a good coach and yet with that much talent he was not able to beat some teams with more struggles. Dealing with kids that other kids are trying to keep them from doing things sometimes has those buttons missing to help align the ship. OSU was a team this year that had talent and never got it together. IU was loaded as well. Michigan hopefully gets through and knocks off Louisville...

bad luck and bad defense

bad luck in that they lost a lot of nailbiters, some on some horrible officiating, some on miracle shots. Bad defense in that they got new assistant coach this year that totally revamped their D and it took players a while to learn the ins and outs.

So, is there one coach that only coaches D? Both Meyer and Beilein have been around the block. Shoot Meyer was an asst at Purdue (to Lee Rose) and spent a few years a little over a decade ago at Butler.

Basically. Beilein wanted to scrap his previous D and use more of Donlon's pack line principles. But first part of season there was some awkward transition that has since smoothed over. Beilein called Donlon his defensive coordinator in the offseason.

Correct, he removed all restrictions before they graduated so Spike could go wherever he wanted.
Only after getting killed on Mike and Mike. Mike Greenberg threatened to bring it up every day on their show until UM released him to go anywhere. Just like that, UM releases him to go anywhere including PU. I generally like your coach, but he screwed that one up and only corrected it after getting heavy pressure to do so.

I think when they were called out as being soft by Maverick Morgan made them decide if that is the way they wanted to be perceived. The responded with toughness from that point out on defensive end.

T-bone, re, Morgan's comments...

Think you're right, but like the points I posted earlier, there isn't one in the bundle that explains it all.

As with disasters, multiple factors converge to make it happen.

actually no. He originally was just keeping the same policy he had for 30+ years and then after hearing complaint after complaint he talked with some other coaches and then decided to change. And I'm pretty sure Beilein doesn't listen to Greenberg in the mornings. Although the Spike situation was a little weirder than most in that he retired from the game and then later when contemplating if he wanted to try to come back or not got conflicting information from physicians on whether he'd ever be medically cleared.

I guess it was just coincidence then that he had a change of heart?? Unless you know him personally, you shouldn't assume he doesn't listen to M&M or at the very least he heard about the exchange on the show. It was all over the ESPN platforms and I'm pretty sure if he didn't hear/see it, his AD did.

I have nothing against him but this one incident. You're obviously a fan maybe alum of the school so it's a bigger deal for you I get that. You agree that he heard criticism and then changed his mind. Where the criticism came from really doesn't matter I suppose. The point remains he made a bad decision and corrected it after hearing from multiple sources that this didn't look good.

As a fan of a different B1G school, I can say from afar that I like his sideline demeanor and when he is interviewed. I think he just had a bad policy, heard about it from outside sources and quickly changed it.
