Recruiting ... Because it's the end of July and we can ...

Strike one for me. It appears that he may see more time more quickly at some of these than he would have at PU. It's an interesting list to spend time overanalyzing ... but my grass needs me too .. to be mowed!!!!!

Ok, DDD......from my records

current tally:

0-1

Partly cloudy, but it's early.....plenty of time to turn it around and get some "crystal."

Kudos to you for getting on the ledge.....

Strike one against the contract extenstion. Maybe we had little chance getting Goodwin, but it appears that it was no issue.

Just for clarification, are you saying that Goodwin going elsewhere is evidence that the contract extension doesn't help recruiting?

I don't understand? Are you saying this because Illionois and Northwestern Coaches probably won't be there in 4 years?

My problem with your comment is that anyone can find instances where things that are true don't hold true in that specific instance. Nothing is 100%. That doesn't keep it from being more often true than not.

Good luck to him. List looks like a lot of Meh from where I sit.

Creighton's had high-scoring teams under Greg McDermott (having his son Doug for four years helped with that). So, maybe he was intrigued by that and Butler, save for two seasons (2011-2012 and 2013-2014: ironically they beat Purdue in the Crossroads both seasons), has made the NCAA Tournament every year since 2007. So, there are some good programs on his trimmed list.

So now Purdue has offered Epperson for 2017. Does that mean the coaching staff has learned something about the instate recruits and must make this offer? What say you?

It means we have Taylor, Haas, and Swanigan at the 4 and 5 spots ... so hmm, we sure need more than a couple of replacements and we need them soon.

We could move Smotherman or Edwards into a spot, but not as a true B1G starter.

We need at least three and probably four real 4/5s ....

A year from right now we will have Taylor, probably Haas (who knows) and whoever we get as first year guys.

Hopefully back-up plan. I say the in-state upper level recruits are very, very good in 2017 so some top 5 programs may be sniffing around their homes, HS coaches, high schools, parents, and girlfriends. Better to not be cooped with no eggs left. It has happened before.

It also means that if we get one of the really good ones, how long will he be here? One and gone, two and gone ... then what?

It's a good problem to have....just like with CS. Also, it's a reminder that recruiting is constantly evolving and fluid. The more you have to react, the tougher it becomes....the more CMP can tailor his strategy and have flexibility.....the better he can work whatever the current landscape is, IMO.

You can't control everything, obviously.

2017/2018 should give a good indication of how it's working......as many have posted.

When they lay down new offers sometimes that says a lot about past offers. Sometimes it means they just saw a new gem and have a lot of open spots. So hard to tell.

Mowed?....oh that grass

Well, barring a de-commitment, a few of us lose a point for our Williams to Purdue predictions. :(

Everything I've seen leads me to believe he is Illinois bound. Looking like they will have a huge class regardless.
WOW, Goodwin to St. Louis???? Must love his Mom's cooking ... which is a good thing, don't make it out as anything else!

Wilkes leaning UCLA ... maybe IU

From what I've seen on Twitter (so take it with a grain of salt), Goodwin was set to join up with Tilmon at IL, but than something changed (some think $) his mind. I know SLU also hired his former AAU coach, so maybe that was the factor that swayed him.

Everybody can act like it's not a major blow by not getting any of these talented kids in Indiana but to me it's a major blow to Purdue basketball too many of them to miss on all of them once again I tell you the answer Cuonzo Martin.

Who cares he's not a boilermaker so who freaking cares where the kid went

So which is it - who the hell cares about kids who go to a school not named Purdue, OR, crying over spilled milk of more IN kids Painter missed that Martin could have *surely* secured? Seems like Real Deal has a Real Dilemma... can't make up his mind.

That's a good problem to have. If you're getting one-n-dones, then you're recruiting at a very high level.

Totally agree. You gotta be able to defend home court and it your program isn't attractive enough to get the best players right in your own backyard, then you need to take a serious look at the program.
It's not like the kids are going to the Univ of Hawaii because they want to play near the beach......

Meaning if we didn't get him stop crying about it and move on it's becoming very common that we miss out on kids here in Indiana if you want to fix the problem my answer is Cuonzo Martin everybody's got their own answer that's mine what is yours

Just saying missing out on all these Indiana kids you don't think that hurts Purdue and recruiting here in Indiana you think it don't you're stupid. Here you want me to tell you what we're going to be talking about in 2020 the same shit we're talking about now 4 Purdue history does repeat itself 20 years of Gene Keady now 20 years of Matt Painter same outcome there you go

This just bleeds irony. If you're going to pretend to be a Purdue fan (certainly hope you don't claim to be a grad), at least clean up the grammar. It's embarrassing for the fan base.

Grammar aside, I kind of see his point. I do think Cuonzo as the face of the program would be more attractive, to a certain extent, to some of these higher rated in-state players.

I like 'Zo but don't get why he would be more attractive unless you're playing the race card. He hasn't played for Purdue since before the current recruits were even born and doesn't have this glowing resume that screams I'll get you to the NBA and the NCAA FF while you're playing for me. Anybody care to explain why he'd be so much better than MP?

But do you agree with Reals previous statement which was the exact opposite position?

I think Martin's one year as a D1 coach, last year, was pretty good, but Painter's was better, in a tougher conference. Both got upset in the first round of the NCAA's. I get it, that some folks like C.Martin, but I don't see him as an upgrade to Matt Painter at this time.

Last year Painter got the two best high school players in Indiana, one was a five star and one was a high 4-star. Martin got a couple 5 star players. Sounds like the recruiting race is about even to me, ...for last year. I think their 2016 class has no freshmen in it, so Painter's get of Carson Edwards looks like a better deal. I also think Martin's great class last year is leaving school at this point, so I am not sure he is going to be all that successful. In fact, I will speculate that he is certainly is not going to do better this coming season than Painter at this point. Let's keep this real.

More attractive because cuonzo has shown he can consistently land elite level prospects.
