IU did not deserve to be in CFP. Great article by USA Today

Not “everyone.” And IU didn’t “only” lose by ten. They just plain lost by ten; 27-17.

They also won 11 games and had an extraordinary season. Those writers and his coaching peers overwhelming voted him as national coach of the year. I think he’d sleep just fine knowing that your opinion of him matters… to you.

And then he’ll be up at 4:30 am to work towards making it happen again next year. It’s no fluke and it’s no accident that the man and his staff win,
Oh my apologies. I guess just the group of IU fans I watched the game with. They were literally pissed by his coaching and gutless calls the entire game saying how different it was. Then again they probably arent on the Purdue board after midnight still seeking validation.

12 is too many as evidenced by this weekend. 16 would be worse.
So then 68 is clearly way too many for college basketball right? Can't be having blowouts in the first round anymore. Are you sure 4 isn't too many? Considering the amount of blowouts in the first round of the 4 team playoff? Maybe 2 is too many. Can't have any blowouts in the national championship game right, so let's just pick the champion without playing the game.

It could be that none of them deserve to be in. By the results this past weekend that seems like a valid assertion. 12 is too many.
Since you're just soooooo worried about blowouts...

4 team playoff first round- 17.9 average point margin
4 team title game- 20.1

BCS title- 14.6

Bowl Coalition title- 10

Bowl Alliance title- 31.7

It's almost like blowouts are kinda just the norm 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

Na you and he are obsessed with how much time you spend here begging for our approval. Most would get what I meant since it has been mentioned many times, but you being not the sharpest bulb has to have it explained to you it seems.

Double derp.
No one is begging for the commies approval.

I'm against unnecessary blowouts. I'm for giving power conference champions a shot. If blowouts occur there, so be it. I don't need or want to see the fourth best team from any conference blown out.

You can argue this any way you want. The facts remains that IU paid to ensure a weak schedule, was beaten soundly in their only game of consequence, and was wrongly awarded a playoff spot. The result supports that. Your justifications don't matter.

The “facts” were weighed by a national committee of experts who found them worthy of inclusion in the CFP. As the ninth best team in the nation and the ten seed. That “wrongly” characterization is your… opinion. And that’s all good. Message boards are great for opinions!

We can argue it anyway we want— they went 11-1, got in the playoffs, and then lost 27-17. Simply incredible and incredibly successful.

Merry Christmas to all!

They paid to have 3 wins. Hey still played 9 conference games. It just happens that Nebraska fell off after the IU game, Northwestern, Maryland, Michigan, Washington all fell off from last season. Indiana has no power there but they took care of business and blew the doors off everyone on the schedule besides Michigan and Ohio State. Indiana without a doubt deserved where they got to by doing what the teams behind them couldn't do, WIN.

He coached scared against ND.
IU won 11 games. So they got in. You can argue that. I know the Alabama fans are pissed because of the eye test. Which is how selections were made in the past. The media has to stop complaining because their favorite blue blood didn’t get selected. And there is no way to compare schedules without deep analysis which was the computer model we didn’t like either. So there is bias and the human element.

I think people greatly undervalue home field advantage. All of the home teams won. Say the game is at Clemson... Could have gone way different. Clemson had a shot. Game is in Bloomington? Could be different. Game is in Texas instead of Pennsylvania? Could be different. Game is in Knoxville? Definitely a lot different. And as far as the Top 8 go, Tennessee and Indiana were #7 and #8 in the Playoff Rankings. They happened to be moved down to the 9 and 10 seed(ranking and seeds are different things) because of Boise State and Arizona State getting byes.
You’re delusional if you thought indiana had a chance to beat ND in Bloomington. They were completely mismatched. Home field is an advantage but it’s 2.5-3 points. The home team won each game because they were the better team. And it wasn’t even close.

It was a good season for them, but at the end of the day they didn't beat anyone good. Wouldn't trade that whole season for any of our top 5 upsets under Brohm. Hopefully Odom will bring back respectability. You should hope IU didn't make the same mistake with Cignetti they did with Allen after 2020.

Glad you think so. Many disagree and criteria will likely change going forward based on what IU did this season. It is funny to me that nobody could see this coming with 18 team conferences now a thing. There is probably going to be a B1G or SEC team every year that dodges most of the top teams at the top of the conference. Then the formula is simply to be a better than average team and schedule yourself wins out of conference. Of courses TV won't like that and things will change because of the money. But kudos to IU for being in the right place at the right time.

Yeah I can. I have.

And for the record I don't think Alabama should be in either. No more than two from any conference. Alabama was not a top two in the SEC and IU was not top two in the Big Ten. Neither was Penn State for that matter. Should be 8 teams with all power conference champs, top G5 champ, and three at large with no more than one at large from any conference.

Yes, I believe all but probably SMU would have better chances at home. Especially Tennessee and Clemson. A home crowd helps a ton.

I just don't see any reason for any Big Ten team to schedule an extra big game out of conference. A team like Alabama may schedule a Wisconsin but that's essentially just a 9th conference game and the other 3 are gimme games.

The norm is only a few haves and a whole bunch of have nots. Lots of lousy games and many fans will lose interest. Count me as one of them.
