Small ball with Tkr at center is not going to beat any top 10 teams. Tkr is a 4. Heide, Myles and Harris are not a 4.

We may have some great athletes, but they all play the same position. Burg, Furst and Burgess unfortunately are not the answer at the 5, and for that matter neither is Tkr.

There is a reason why smith has so many turnovers. He’s trying to do too much and he doesn’t have Edey to throw to.

We already beat Ala and they will be a top 10 team this year

It isn't needed. There is talent on the team.. not playing up to it is not the same thing.

There’s not that much talent. We have some guys who can jump and shoot, we have very few guys who can dribble drive or break down man D.
Believing that there’s not the possibility to upgrade is fools gold.
Auburn will expose us again.

At this point in the season and without a true center creating rebounding problems…I would say our ceiling in the NCAA Tournament is 2nd round.

With everything that happened...the physical play, poor passing and just too many mental errors had A&M OR Purdue shot "TYPICAL" behind the arc and there were some good looks, Purdue wins and that is if either one is shooting to their average. Had that happened there would still be too many turnovers, but even with that had either team not shot above and below their average the turnout might be different. That is why on a given night with all the other issues...Purdue "can" upset a good team. Still, those odds increase when turnovers are held down and boards when shooting poorly become an even bigger issue....NONE of this is to excuse Purdue's play, but the sky isn't falling so far...

I'd like to see CJ get more minutes when either Cam or Myles (possible for Fletch as well) are not looking at the basket "IF" Purdue is struggling shooting the ball. I did just listen to Matt and he made mention that "some" didn't know what was going on. The season is young and I expect this team to grow...

Still hoping that someone beyond Fletcher, Braden, and (sometimes) Cam can step up become a lethal weapon from the perimeter….

Purdue missed WAAY too many excellent looks today to prevail against a team that defends like AtM…

Cam sometimes doesn't look to score either. It is mostly the three as we and other teams know

Next Saturday will be another interesting test and supreme challenge for Purdue - the toughest opponent yet it appears, in a hostile environment (Birmingham) coming off a 91-53 absolute beatdown of the Buckeyes in Atlanta. Fasten your seat belt, there could be some turbulence ahead......

Szelc is in Champaign-Urbana, where Tennessee and Illinois are locked in a dogfight. Tied @ 62 with 1:38 left. 59 FT's (and 41 fouls) between the two teams.

Edit - Tennessee wins it on a lay-up at the buzzer, 66-64.....after Illinois had split FT's to tie it with 5 seconds left. Some costly inbounds issues for the Illini in the late going, but they look to be a potential handful.

Purdue goes to Illinois to finish the regular season in the only scheduled meeting this year.

So, some talk about athleticism lacking and yet the two best athletes for Purdue and maybe two of the top three on the court were missing in action for Purdue. Matt leans to skill, we all know that. We know that Purdue has done very well with that, but also is vulnerable to a physical or more athletic called game. Matt is slowly adding a better mix than years ago. Did you really think they "forced" turnovers or Purdue just played pitch and catch poorly and was that in the 3/4 press or more half court?

It is the combination. The press forces Smith to work harder and shortens the clock so offense hurries up and forces passes to beat the clock. It also means the defense has to pressure hard for a shorter time and are less likely to be exposed. Since we know we are going to see pressure I would love for us to attack it more aggressively. Especially if we are struggling in the half court offense. The challenge is lack of depth and Smith playing 40 minutes doesn't really allow us to run. End of the day I think we are still trying to run an offense through the 5 and we don't have Zach anymore. The high pick and rolls are just Smith and TKR going 2 on 5 while everyone else stands around.

I think Braden, TKR, and Fletch all had some mental mistakes that lead to TOs.

If your leaders have 10 or so of those combined, you won't beat many good teams.

absolutely mental mistake...even horrible passes that didn't hurt them as far as turning it over that were made in addition to passes that directly hurt. A lot of mental mistakes...even passes that got to a player were many times not near the shooting pocket and so that affects shooting as well. Definitely Purdue could have been sharper

so how has Underwood gotten the Lithu import connection? those guys look older than FR and Soph

No doubt . Staying in front of better athletes is generally a weakness for Purdue. Zach, Hammonds, Haarms, Hass, helped to mitigate that. Nobody to do that on this team.

This has always been an issue and why that rim protector is so important...and why Jacobson is missed. Still, Purdue doesn't make the mental mistakes which not only lowers A&M's score, but improves Purdue's scoring as well and Purdue survives...again. The perimeter players are better than some previous teams, but as you stated...the other teams sometimes had someone to erase their errors...especially AJ, but Zachand and Haarms also did well

The ball is in position to start an offense with 21 seconds most the time and so any type of press that doesn't turn you over probably cuts out an additional 2 to 3 seconds. However, now the players run from their positions to break a zone press to go to their spots which eats another few seconds before some action starts. Have to be careful not to get too aggressive against a zone press that isn't trying to turn you over since you run into what they want. A&M stunted out of the top two to give a look like one was going to trap...which caused the Purdue players to stay up higher for a release should the trap happen. One time they did a run and jump out of the zone press.

All this of lowering the clock to 30 seconds takes away a lot of basketball team skill and leans to a more individual player game because the clock is playing D. I want Purdue to be aggressive against a press every time it is there and it sure would help if another player or two could be a threat to drive the ball quickly since the other team is focused on Braden. Where is Lance?

I ran into Coach Keady this summer outside the Ackerman Course, and after profusely thanking him for making Purdue basketball what it is today, we got to chatting about that string of completely unfair tourney seedlings….

Thanks for sharing - way back in the day when I was a student, on the North course (long before the Kampen redesign) someone hit a wayward shot from #2 that rolled right past me attempting to tee off on the par-3 8th hole. Then here comes a speeding golf cart with a single player asking about a ball.....as he got closer, I'm like "Holy &*^%, it's Coach Keady!"

He apologized and thanked me, and we had a quick exchange before he sped off.....will never forget that......

These are the growing pains that normal teams (like ours now) go through.

Both Cam and Myles need to be more aggressive on offense. Both are capable of taking their man off the dribble from time to time. As you say, Cam passes up even more open shots than Myles. Need players to be hunters on offense.
