I will say if Purdue wins all those games and tourneys you mention, they are deserving of being in the top 10! Like the Rainbow Classic, I believe the winner in Atlantis will be considered a top 10 team. If Purdue plays well, it is posssible. However, on the down side, as ratings go, if Purdue lays an egg at the Atlantis tourney, it will be a long time before they earn the respect of the pollsters and rankings. Pollsters are fickle and wins mean everything. They could care less about talent, depth and experience. Win the Atlantis, you could gain a #1 seed regardless of what you do the rest of the season. Come away with two losses, And Purdue will have a very hard time making the top 20 any time soon.

They got just as much a chance to win them games as anybody like every team does. Remember those teams gotta win too I'm sure the players welcome the challenge.
But my point is the people who vote look primarily at wins and early preseason wins as their primary deciding factor in rankings. If a team wins one of the BIG preseason tourneys, their ratings will climb to the top. And the voters will give them the benefit of the doubt should they lose later. I'm confident the winner of the preseason NIT will be in the top 10! I'm confident the winner of Atlantis will be in the top 10! But if a team loses, you can forget about being in the top 15'. And teams like Northwestern who haven't played anybody will find their way to a higher ranking.
And that's a problem. A lot of NCAA tourney seeding is based on those early preseason games. If Purdue wins, they could easily gain a 1 or 2 seed regardless of how they fair against MSU later in the year. But come away with two losses in those preseason games, and it could be until March before Purdue sees a top 20 rating again.
I'm not saying Purdue is going to lose. I'm saying if they do lose, they will probably end up with another 4-5 seed again.
To me, too much importance is given to preseason games. Think about it, the #1 seeds last year and many previous years were already determined before their conference tournaments had concluded.
I think Purdue finishes in the top four somewhere. My gut tells me we win the Big Ten. Being ranked before the season starts I hope we're not. Let's just get the season started I'm ready for some basketball.
I don't post often, I prefer to read all the comments. Purdue fan since middle school (1980). Never went to Purdue, unfortunately college wasn't an option for me..Anyways I remember when we lost Big Dog, the polls had us ranked like maybe finishing 8th in the BIG, guess what we won the BIG, once again after that year were projected to finish towards the bottom,, nope wrong again 3 Pete Baby....Preseason means nothing to me....Boiler Up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think we could be really good this year if our seniors play like the experienced seniors they are and our bench can be a real force when they get their opportunity. If everyone plays to their potential and improves from last year, I think we could surprise a lot of folks. The WUG silver that was a great accomplishment and I truly believe had it not been for fatigue we would have won the gold. I also know as the season progresses, our bench is going to be a much bigger force than they were in the WUG gold medal game. Pre-season, I would put us around 16th. I definitely think we have a solid chance of winning the BiG. Play a great season, get a #3 seed or higher and who knows what could happen! All I know is I am very excited for the season to begin! Only 37 days until opening night!

Clearly you do care because you responded and it is your problem that you opened up a can of worms you can't handle. You started this whole irrelevant grammar thing and now that it's backfired on you, you're left with only trying to twist things around, unsuccessfully I might add.

I'm done going back and forth on this because is irrelevant and not worth the mess the other poster created and now can't handle. Not even going to respond to the other poster either because they clearly are only here to critique everyone's posting habits.
But you are right about how this forum will get when we lose. Many toxic posters come out of the woodwork and post nothing but garbage and since the forum isn't moderated, it will only become a cesspool.
Slow down squirrel. I went after some poster named persapians, who made his whole second post ever about grammar. I figured he was just starting stuff with some of our current posters who may use a voice system, or who type like my kids text, using shorthand word spellings.
The English language is a living language, and it evoles more quickly than you might realize. I am fascinated by this process. I think in 20 years, acceptable spellings and grammar will reflect these digital shortcuts. Ever look at some of the spellings and sentence structure from the civil war? Worse yet, try some Elizabethan text. It's all fun.
Hey I'm a fan I just happened to be a parent of one of the players on the team. Agreeing with everything I say isn't the case if you haven't noticed. I've had many different of opinions with people on this board who disagreed with me or corrected me when my facts were wrong. I don't no everything don't pretend I do. I came on this board to lend my knowledge of what i no about recruiting and anything some of you questioned I tried to share my experiences when my son and I went through the recruiting process. As far as the grammar issue goes why we making a big deal over it using some words the wrong way or misspelling some words or not putting the period in the right spot that's small potatoes to get worked over when 59 people died in vegas when people are dying in Puerto Rico and all the other things that goes on in the world. Don't worry about me I'm a big girl and I'll be able to handle the criticism, the bad choice of words, the bad things that will be said about my son when he miss a lay up, turn the ball over, make many mistakes he will make throughout the course of this seasom bcuz it's gonna happen. He gonna have his bad days and good days this season and I'm well aware of what people will say when my 18 year son make freshman mistakes many on this board gonna rip my son apart to the point of no end and this I no gonna happen. What I no is this my son isn't on this board and he will hear his fair share of crazy remarks while he playing in the game or on the bench but he's heard it b4 and I've experienced it b4 too and I'm ready for all that comes with it. I won't pretend it won't hurt when things being said about him but again I no it will happen and I'm prepared for it. Enjoy him now bcuz he won't be hear long. I no I've talked on many occasions about how good my son is and many of you probably will be looking for that kid I have repeatedly said can do this and that and I'm standing on that bcuz he is really good and even if every game he doesn't do everything I say he can do doesn't mean he can't. Bottom line I no what I got into coming on this board and do you no since you think I'm getting special treatment bcuz my son is on the team we'll you are wrong sir I'm on this board just like you to voice my opinions I just happen to be nojel mom who happens to play on purdue team.

. You no what I love about preseason rankings they never end up being the same by the end of the regular season. There is no clear cut team that any ranking person can honestly say who could win it all. Predicting who will get to a final 4 as I see it is based of rosters big name schools and who coach them and some actually based off the experience coming back. So as season approaches that list of teams that are in top 25 will change drastically as season goes on.
A wise removal at the suggestion those posts are the result of being handicapped or lacking in education.

Treed, you mentioned your son does not get on this board. You obviously are now a regular. Would you say many recruits, players, coaches, parents get on a board like this?
Some do probably not many bcuz it's not something even as a parent I would recommend anybody to do especially if you have a child that is in the public eye. Coaches got better things to do than read some of the negative things being said about them and the good. Players no words hurt and a kid could not handle some of the things that could be said about him or her especially if they have a bad game. Like I said I stumbled across this board just after my son season ended his senior year and i was curious as to what people on this board talked about. It's an acquired taste you take the good with the bad on this board but as a parent you better have thick skin. Still I would not recommend any parent to be on any message board just not a place for us to be if you read something you don't like about your kid.
Your description here is exactly why I have said that what is posted on the free board matters. You stumbled across it so it is safe to say others have or will at some point as well.
It only takes one time for something negatively said on this forum impacting a potential recruit.
