Is this trivia or a discussion?IMO-Keanu Reeves in The Replacements was uncommonly unbelievable
That was a serial classic produced by Republic pictures. The main villain was played by Neil Hamilton, years before his great success as Comissioner Gordon on TVs Batman. In the cast was Kermit Maynard, playing a character named Witchita.Kermit was from Vevay,Indiana and had played football at IU as had his brother Cowboy star Ken Maynard. You havent heard a thick Texas accent until you have heard Baugh speak. He was one of a kind .Mac Davis was surprisingly good as Seth Maxwell ,Qb of the fictional Dallas Bulls in North Dallas Forty.I liked Burt Reynolds in The Longest Yard, but Adam Sandler was horrible in the remake.Pee Wee Herman would have been as credible as Sandler. In my youth I recall a turn around( OB playing a Texas Ranger)-A Cliffhanger Serial starring "Slinging" Sammy Baugh called King of the Texas Rangers(1941)
Whaaaaa.Dennis Quaid in Any Given Sunday was kinda ok-movie sucked though.
Played for the Gators, didn't he?Burt Reynolds- Longest Yard.
Nope, he played for the 'Noles.Played for the Gators, didn't he?
Seminoles, wasn't it. Agree Mac Davis was pretty good.Nope, he played for the 'Noles.
Paper Lion introduced us to a budding Hollywood star named Alex Karras. For those old enough to remember Paper Lion, Alan Alda was so bad, I assumed George Plimpton could have done a better job in the part.
Plimpton was chief writer on many Cliffhanger Serials. For those old enough to remember Paper Lion, Alan Alda was so bad, I assumed George Plimpton could have done a better job in the part.
Not only Ken and Kermit but also Buck Jones and MaxTerhune(with Elmer)That was a serial classic produced by Republic pictures.
That was a different guy.I think his name was George Plympton.Max Terhune was from Franklin and Buck Jones hailed from Vincennes,as did Red Skelton and Matt Welsh.Plimpton was chief writer on many Cliffhanger Serials.

Willie Beaman was the breakout character of that film.Whaaaaa.
Jamie foxx was better (and actually played qb in his life) and that movie was pretty good
James Vanderbeek in Varsity Blues - not good.IMO-Keanu Reeves in The Replacements was uncommonly unbelievable
So basically “Webster”?Paper Lion introduced us to a budding Hollywood star named Alex Karras.
Webster plus Blazing Saddles,Victor/Victoria,numerous others. So basically “Webster”?
The guy from “Let’s Be Cops”, because he was a Boilermaker!
How about movie football coaches? I’ll start: Ed O’Neill > James Caan.IMO-Keanu Reeves in The Replacements was uncommonly unbelievable

Denzel Washington > Billy Bob Thornton.Jack Warden (Halas in Brians Song) > Pat O'Brien (Knute Rockne All-Am)

Yeah, and I like Gary Cooper in Pride of the Yankees, even though I can't stand the yanks, and Coop was not even left-handed like Gehrig was. (or do I have that backwards?) His farewell speech at the end is classic!I hate sports movies where the actor clearly is not an athlete, particularly baseball movies where the guy can't throw or swing a bat properly.
That being said, the original Bad News Bears is still a classic.
Burt Reynolds- Longest Yard.
Former Boiler Abe Gibron was in the the movie as DC but did not become HC of Bears until 72'. Piccolo died of cancer in 70'Wait, didn't Abe Gibbron play himself in Brian's Song?
Burt was a college halfback at FSU and Lee Corso played QB there.Well he WAS a college qb so can’t include him
Brians song was partially filmed at St Josephs. Not sure I'd say believable but Mac Davis and Nick Nolte in North Dallas Forty were pretty entertaining. On another note, the scenery from Brian's Song was pretty good - the St. Joseph College campus in northern Indiana correct? One of my older brothers went up to the Bears training camp and got autographs from Sayers, Piccolo and a few others.
