Hey guys,

Some of you may remember me as a frequent poster over here in the past. Life has taken over and I don’t spend much time on the forums (IU or Purdue), nor do I really get a chance to watch the way I used to. I also don’t really have the urge with the way college basketball is operating now. Anyway, I watched yesterday’s game and just had a few things to say.

1. I absolutely think Leal should’ve been ejected. IMO, it was a flagrant 1 on Furst and a flagrant 2 on Leal. Couldn’t believe the no call.

2. I didn’t like the flagrant 1 on Kaufman, especially after the pass they gave Leal. Bigs can’t raise their hands anymore? Not sure either call impacted the outcome but that’s just how I felt about it.

3. Braden Smith was a player I wanted IU to pursue and I’m happy to see he’s had the career I thought he’d have. Like I said, I don’t watch a lot anymore but I remember him as a recruit and he turned out as expected. Not his best game yesterday but that happens. I’m always happy to see a homegrown player prosper.

Finally, I’ve gained a lot more respect for Painter. I always had respect for him as a coach but I loved hearing the announcers talk about how he didn’t have any transfers. NIL and the transfer portal kind of killed my love for college basketball and it’s great to see someone still trying to build a program. I hope IU’s next hire embraces the same philosophy. Maybe it would inspire me to care again.

Agree completely. I really don't get how somehow it's more noble because CMP didn't get any transfers. I'm pretty sure he won't be as noble next year!

I mean do you know if Purdue has the nil? Next year needs to be about retaining and potentially getting one guy. Almost all of college basketball is going to be depleted except for us if we can keep our guys.

But we disagree on the definition of nobility.
Painter is adrift.
Here’s why:

Deserves it for not bending to the landscape of his peers.

There are ways to do business as
it evolves or retain your soul.
He chose the later.
These are the results.

Catchings kid.
He calls on show up day and spoke to Painter. And quit.
Gave demands/parameters.
Done.

Calls back 3 days later to an assistant (TJ) and asks to come back. Hold please.

Ever own a business?? Ever have eyes on you from all over the building. Ever sign a payroll check on the front? I have.

Painter said GFY.
God love him.

That’s nobility defined my brother.

Us bigger than you.

Kid is/was a potential one and done local talent .
All the best to him.
But what an enormous waste of time and resources for Purdue. Spent years on him.

And yes — Purdue would be completely different this year with him and the broken leg kid.

He had apparently
become not what a Coach/Parent/Employer wants around if that’s what he (and his) now are.
On principle.

Wanted guaranteed minutes
and the start.
That was on show-up day!!

Painter gets on the line and “guarantees”
him “the opportunity to compete for all of it”.
On principle.
Dial tone.

Kid felt the pressure of competition and wanted a guaranteed compliant
environment.
It’s a thing now apparently.
Found it last minute out west and is doing well. Good for him.

Culture. Nobility. Honesty

And yes — Purdue now losing/struggling and on a potential path to the MAC if it continues in 3-5 years.
On principle.

Principle is what it is.
Fall on it.
Or ignore it and whore it up.

Nice to see a real dude saying real things.

And get this—-I’m a wool dyed IU fan.
For decades.

Ponder that a minute.

I can live with the team bringing in a player here and there, but I’m a lifelong IU fan and alum. I grew up believing you played for the name on the front of the jersey, and that’s not what I’m seeing now. It’s been a revolving door and I miss watching the development of players who care about the school. Purdue still has that and I respect it.

Split college basketball in two. NCAA D1 and NCP(Professional)A. NCAA goes back to like it was before NIL and the transfer free for all. The NCPA is a free for all like it is now and it would fail within 5 years. Most people would rather watch and be involved in the former.

FYI Catchings has been playing <5 minutes a game at BYU in the last month and has had a couple DNPs.

the F1 call on TKR was ridiculous. I'm an IU fan but was hoping the refs would just call common foul. All TKR was trying to do was get his arms up to shoot the shot. Not sure it changes the game outcome but was a horrible call. No clue why the refs thought it might be intentional.
I actually felt bad for TKR on that call, but even more on his 5th. That was all on Smith, he took off before TKR was there and set...look on TKR's face was like "damn bro, you screwed me there" as he walked off the court.

Overall impressed with TKR development. Of the two, I thought Furst would be the bigger talent at PU. That's why I'm not a talent scout. Furst remains a mystery to me. Saw him in HS, kid looked like a greek god. Was expecting a lot more fron him. TKR has definitely put in the work. Don't know about NBA but he has, at very least, a long and prosperous overseas career waiting if he chooses.

I certainly would. The only problem I see with this model is the fact that half the kids coming out of high school would think they belong in the professional league. Thats part of the problem now. Nobody wants to sit and learn.

It’s more along the lines of Jack Handy’s Deep Thoughts .

Along with Wrong Shot, this latest indinia hump —- Deluded by Stars—is laboring under the delusion that Purdue fans yearn for Monroe County pedantry….

Such is life, when Purdue owns the state… this board has become a kook magnet for the stupids from down south!
