Obviously it's going to be very difficult for Johnny Hill to match the impact that Jon Octeus had on the program in his one season. Octeus' value went well beyond the statistics. Unfortunately, none of us will know whether he can provide those intangibles. I've been encouraged by quotes from him and a former coach but those are just words.
As such, all we can do are look at statistics. Below are 2 year statistics for each. Both of Octeus' seasons were at CSU and Hill had one season at Illinois State and one at UTSA.
(Better numbers in Bold)
Octeus: (Corrected from earlier post)
39.2% FG, 30.6% 3P, 76.5% FT
8.9 points, 3.6 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1.1 TO's, 0.1 blocks, 0.6 steals, 2.4 fouls
Per 40 minutes: 13.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.7 TO's, 0.2 blocks, 1.0 steals, 3.6 fouls
Hill:
47.8% FG, 26.5% 3P, 73.2% FT
8.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 2.3 TO's, 0.1 blocks, 1.2 steals, 2.3 fouls
Per 40 minutes: 13.3 points, 6.3 rebounds, 5.0 assists, 3.7 TO's, 0.1 blocks, 1.9 steals, 3.7 fouls
While we may be able to garner some insight into the above, level of competition, team style of play, and role are all factors which make this difficult.
