Next commitment?

I know it's almost the time for the March Madness, but then I began to wonder: who will be our next commit? We didn't hear much about Sasha before he committed. Some say we are still in play for Epperson, but if Ondigo commits, I see no way for Epperson to sign on. For 2018, many say Langford is long gone, and some say we still have a chance. Some recruits actually visited our MSU game.

I was checking out the recruiting sites, and we aren't exactly pursuing 5 stars in 2018 other than Langford. Indiana doesn't seem to have many 5 stars that year, which may be the main reason. Is Painter banking for 2019 or 2020? I don't see another Biggie falling onto our lap. Are the recruits waiting to see just how far we go in the tournament? Please weigh in.

I really think we could start looking more nationally for post players given our reputation for developing big men. Not many places in the country a big man can go where they know that they will see the ball in the post regularly if they are good. A big man who wants to get to the NBA should be drooling for a Purdue offer. Think about it. You can be like Thomas Bryant and go play for a run-and-gun, no-defense, guard-oriented offense like Crean's or you can be like Caleb Swanigan and develop into an AA by being the focal point of the offense with your post play but also being allowed to step out and knock down a jumper when you develop it.

Don't knock on the 2018 Indiana class. It isn't as loaded as 2017 but there is some solid talent we are hot on. Eric Hunter is a rising star, in my opinion.

Damezi Anderson is another kid to look out for in the 2018 class.

I personally think the first to sign would be Adam Trapp.

So who all is in play in 2018 that we know about? All I can think of is:

Eric Hunter Jr. (Rivals #78)
Robby Carmody (Rivals #92)
Romeo Langford (Rivals #3)
Musa Jallow (Rivals #75)
Damezi Anderson (Rivals #97)
Rob Phinisee (Rivals #134)
Adam Trapp (unranked)

Would love to get Carmody. His game reminds me of Hummel 2.0. Obviously Langford would be an incredible get & I'd give us a chance if we cut down the nets in April.

Are some of the others

Don't think we have offered Damezi yet but Painter and crew have been watching him a lot more lately

Of the eight 2018 kids committed at this time to the B1G - all 8 have gone to their home state school. Hopefully, Painter can get a commit from one of these Indiana kids soon too.

Hasn't he been here like 4 times? Hopefully that means he likes what he sees. I don't know why but he looks like a Purdue type of guy. I've followed his twitter page some and he seems like a real coachable, leader type guy. I would have said a "coach's dream" but that's always creepy with our rival's coach.

hope it will be Carmody, know Pitt is hard after him too. We got a Jallow for football maybe we'll get one for basketball.

Just read a recruiting piece on Carmody in the J&C. He sounds PERFECT for Purdue and the program we run. Really hope we can land him. Seems like a Kramer/Hummel mix and that sounds great to me and I think he would absolutely love playing here.

He's been here alot & was here for the MSU game I believe. If you watch video of him, you'll think Rob Hummel right way. Great nose for the ball, can get to the basket, has handles & smooth jumper. Very similar build to Rob also. He's my top choice for 18 (other than Langford) & yes, looks very much like a Purdue guy. His dad Bill was also the coach at NW for several year.

Painter should tweet how he "can't stop thinking about him"... take a page out of the tan man's recruiting strategy.

This is not Bill Carmody's (Princeton, NW, Holy Cross) son. Rob's father, Rob Carmody Sr., coaches his high school team in Mars, PA.

Did not know he was Bill's son. I think this should help us as he evaluates his options. Will be able to discern the BS from the important things and that's good for us since I don't think CMP is big on the BS side of recruiting.

Wrong Carmody. As Beeazlebub noted above his dad is a coach though so that is usually a good thing.

Okay, I thought I read somewhere that it was. Funny, because he looks like him.

If Epperson comes, Stefanovic's RS is guaranteed. But at this point, who knows what he's thinking about. He wants to play, not sitting on the bench.

While yes, SS will red shirt, IMO it has nothing to do with whether a center comes here or not. They play different positions. SS will RS because he will not be needed next year in Cline's junior year and DM senior year.

So far I only see Trapp coming towards us, Carmody is so uncertain. And I prefer not to have great players like Langford who goes pro after freshman year. I don't like the way Izzo recruits. Admit it, next year our first commit is still gonna be the biggest one. And we should probably give up on hacking Crean's backyard. Instead, we need to prevent Crean from taking our kid to Bloomington.

The last statement is incorrect I believe.

Izzo should take care of his backyard in case we steal Brandon Johns, that kid visited last Saturday, they basically toured everywhere in Mackey. Being an East Lansing local, watching Izzo losing the game in West Lafayette, really an awkward situation. And another junior from like 15 miles west of Lansing visited as well, don't know his name. His coach said Izzo has not given him offer yet but Painter intended to. Don't know his name......

Whether it's for 1 year or not we want Romeo if we could get him. He's shown nothing in his HS career to suggest he's the type of player that would create issues on the team. His talent is ridiculous and if we could get him for a single season there is zero question it would be worth it.
