National ranking - curious if the #6 WIS road win moves the needle?

When you think of Duke and UCLA what comes to mind? Their ranking in February or their championships. What do IU fans talk about? Their February rankings or their championship? And what about nc state? Their ranking or the fact they beat ucla and Walton. Ask Jordon an LeBron what they care about. Ask anybody! It’s not about the ratings. It’s about championships

Recruiting season is over! What counts most for notoriety is an NCAA championship not your bragging at some bar or online in February . So I guess you want to go to IU’s forum and brag we’re #1 before the game like that’s going to matter?

As I said, win a championship and you won’t have to worry about the future . Lose in the first or second round and it won’t matter what your rating in February is. Just ask Bulunga why he chose Kansas over Purdue. My guess is it had nothing to do with our February ranking. In recruiting there is only one ranking that matters and that’s the one given out in April after the dance. Our rating is not what influenced any of our current players. Just ask Edey or Catchings why they chose Purdue. I’ll bet chi town’s casinos it was not because of our February ranking.

I can’t believe you don’t understand that or see that. This year’s recruiting war is done. Next year’s recruiting will be directly proportional to our success in the dance. Another early exit will have 10x the impact a February rating has.

What’s your real reason for wanting to be #1. Other. Than taunting another school’s fan base online?
Don't be rude. It's his opinion and he's entitled to it.

Recruiting season never ends. Some people care about being #1. Some don't. But it's a nice feather in the cap. I care about the 1-seed in Detroit. But don't belittle those that care about the polls. And how do you know what influenced any of our current players? Did you ask them?

Don't think fans are upset as much as they are wishful. It absolutely does matter if we are #1. Notoriety and exposure for the university and it helps in recruiting. Yes, we want to be #1 in April but we also have to build the future.
I mean I don't think being number 1 for a couple of extra weeks at the end of the season where we've been 1-3 almost the entire season is going to be a critical difference maker.

not if UH is top 4 they aren't.
You would think one or the other ends up a #1, but it's still too early to tell. They do get a return game in Houston. Kansas has a TOUGH schedule remaining. I was about to put something down on them to win the B12 regular season at +450 but then checked the schedule.

Good gracious. Recruiting is never over. Everything helps including being #1 but you be you.

So much wrong with this post. And you wonder why you catch so much crap from fellow posters. Truly clueless.

I'm fine with not being number 1 but Purdue has beat 5 of the top 11 in the rankings

Recruiting never sleeps. Unless your Woodson. And recruiting hasn’t slowed down for Purdue, Wole, it’s picked up. Why you may ask? Because we continue to win and get to be top 5 in the country in 3 straight year and develop kids. Kids want to be somewhere that’s successful and have that exposure on national Tv.

One recruit went in top 5 and another is above win back to back NPOTY from being ranked 436th—and they were in the same recurring class!

Also, the atmosphere is great and as corny as it sounds, painter treats all players like family no matter when they played. Hell, he even treats other players (from IU!) as family. It really helps too, that’s he’s been a constant at Purdue for almost 20 years, which shows his commitment to the program and that the kids know he will be around.

Flory Bidunga chose KU because he got more money to go there and doesn’t have much competition at the position he plays. Don’t be surprised to see him struggle/not be as advertised in college. He will be athletic, but he’s not a player that would have worked well in Painters system and THATS OK. I wish all Indiana players well and hope he shines and gets to the NBA.

Also, Wole, Purdue has spent the most time at 1 the last 3 seasons… THAT MATTERS TO RECRUITS. Also check this:

usually the rankings now somewhat reflect who is good in March. That’s why people care. Not always the case. You want to see your team improving and playing its best ball. Are we? No. We had a great defensive game that was our best, but we weren’t good offensively. Hope to see us continue this defense and put it together

Stop talking about Indinia.

The point is it doesn't matter. We get Detroit either way. UConn gets East either way. Houston (probably) gets South either way if the are top 4 and then whomever is left gets West.

Barring a collapse I don't think Kansas is passing us.
The resume gap between Purdue and Kansas just got a little larger. Purdue needs to keep on winning, but it has put some distance between itself and several teams since last week at this time and Detroit is definitely looking like it’s within reach.

Like where we are at #2 - looks like UCONN and Purdue have separated themselves from the pack a bit. Toughest schedule, #1 offense and #13 defense in Kenpom - complete team and possibly the best Purdue team I’ve seen. We are winning games - last two especially - that we lose in prior years. Keep working, pound IU on Saturday, and keep this train rolling!
AGREE! I don't know a team who would have won the last two games ... and I was in Louisville in 1969!

I agree. The best defense we've played!!! Offense doesn't "scare" me but if refs continue to allow players to double Zach inside the cylinder ... that could become a problem. If he can't get the ball out when he's doubled, our shooter/penetrators won't get the ball.

With around 8 games left to play in the season, I assume the NCAA Committee has starting to shape theur selections and seeding?

Then, let the conference tournament games play out only to tweak and refine a pretty set field of teams. Is that your understanding of the selection committee process?

They get together typically a month ahead of Selection Sunday, do some work and unveil a Top 16 in bracket form. It's really to get the committee a head start on everything, learning how to work together and making sure they know all the rules and such. Also it gets the public excited about upcoming March Madness now that the Super Bowl has ended.
