Nai Carlisle

He's the son of the Director of Sports Performance (Strength and Conditioning) at Purdue, for those that don't know. Going to West Lafayette High School.

I recall that he was being watched closely by the coaching staff for awhile, but interest seemed to have fallen off. Even as a HS frosh, the Lafayette J&C described him as strong and athletic.

@Stof34: Nai Carlisle, Indiana Elite 2016 point guard & Jr. All-Star has decommitted from San Jose State. Will be 1 of Top PG's on Adidas Gauntlet.

And I don't think Dad ever made it a secret as to where his loyalties lie.

J&C Report

He obviously likes Purdue and it helps that his Dad works for the university. At the same time, is he good enough to be a significant contributor?

I hope he keeps improving. It would be nice to see a hometown kid make a major impact if he chooses the Boilermakers.

I thought we would get his older brother in football when he left USC to be near his Dad but ended up playing for our neighbors to the North so I am dubious until proven different that he will end up here!

From what I hear he has a very similar playing style to Bryson Scott. Big strong guard who loves to drive and cant exactly shoot.

Yea, but, I live in the Greater Lafayette and he does not generally play against significant competition. I believe West Lafayette high school is classified as the smallest school designation. Purdue can do better, now whether or not Painter can do better is fodder for argument.

I tend to agree with waynow...Live in the area and have seen him play a couple times. I don't care much for his jumper, but he can drive, and has decent quickness. I think 6' is generous also. West side I believe is in 3A, but he's right, not much competition to go against. You never know though, he might blow up on the AAU circuit. Just not convinced he's a big ten caliber point guard, but I also am no coach.

I saw him play several times last year, and didn't come away overly impressed.

- Very Strong
- Slasher, with ability to finish through contact
- Average to below average shooter, with questionable form
- Potential to be an excellent defender

The biggest question I had was his ability to facilitate & get the best shot on offense. He simply needed to improve his understanding of the game. I shook my head after many possessions where he forced up a bad shot while ignoring his teammates, some of whom were quite talented (William Mbongo).

I didn't see him at all this season, so I don't know how he progressed from his Soph to Jr years.
