Must Read: Gregg Doyel article on Painter/Purdue Program

I stand by what I said. Painter is in no danger whatsoever. Only way he leaves in the next few years is if he wants to go.

I think he and most of the staff (I hope they keep Brantley) could be let go after next season (assuming the new AD is in place before then) or maybe he'll pursue a new HC job this or next offseason.

Want to make a wager on it?

I would be shocked if the new AD forced a change in our basketball coaching staff. This staff brought a bottom-of-the-BIG team up to 3rd place the last two years, and played MSU to a draw in the BIG championship game this season, before losing. They suffered the same fate as Hall-of-Fame-coach Izzo at MSU in the NCAA's. Why would any AD with any perspective on what happens in the real world (not internet message boards) do that?

I can't speak for Painter. He might make a decision to start over, but I would be disappointed if he did. He really liked his team this year. They were close with each other and with the coaching staff. Next year Painter will have what might be his most talented team to date. I would think he would want to carry through on what he started.

If I had an excess of income right now I would, but I need it for more important matters right now and in the forseeable future, so I do not. However, I stand by my statement.

Perhaps you should get into college basketball coaching. That pays pretty well and you seem to be an expert on the subject. Might be a good way for you to make some disposable income.

Reactions: Wheels Of Steel
I asked this question in another thread and didn't get an answer. I hear this statement all the time, that the 2017 Indiana class is ridiculously loaded> I see Wilkes, Scruggs, Williams, and Jackson Jr. - all elite and getting offers from many elite college programs. Gunn is evidently getting some elite offers too, but Adaway from Logansport is often listed as the 6th best player in that Indiana class. So, four guys who are getting offers from Kansas, NC, KY, and many others and then a kid from Logan that is getting LOW mid-major offers, with Gunn in-between.

I know the top four are very, very good ... perhaps that makes it an elite class ... but it sure makes it a small class with a lot of hands in the pot.

Am I missing something?
I was told in another thread that there are 6-7 guys from Indiana in the top 150.

There also is Justin Roberts from Pike in Indianapolis, and two, if not three, guys from La Lumiere.

At least 7 guys in the top 150...guys that were identified years ago as nationally elite prospects...and that does not even include Adaway and Gunn.

Purdue/Painter simply can't afford to not be involved with those guys from their own state. It is not as if those guys are coming out on an annual basis, and if Purdue/Painter is genuinely going to compete on the floor with the likes of the other household names and national programs, then it has to be able to do so off of the floor in recruiting as well.

Personally, I couldn't care less if we end up with another top 150 guy from Ohio like Vince Edwards. Go get good players no matter where they are from and no matter what they are ranked.

After, Wilkes, Scruggs, Jackson and Willams is usually Gunn, who floats in the 40s rank for his position (PF). He has been attending IU games for years. PU has not offered. Adaway is not ranked and is getting offers from Ball State, IUPUI, and Kent State. Cooper Neese is often ranked after Gunn and Adaway, he has signed with Butler. I have watched Cooper for years. I was shocked at Butler signing him, but great, great news for Cooper.

The LaLumiere players are attending a basketball prep school which does not play in the IHSAA tournament and neither is from Indiana.

Roberts must be rising fast. He shows a high 3-star rank with offers from IUPUI. Another point guard, but reportedly lightning quick. Decisions, decisions.
