Dakich's tweets concerning MSU.

This could get entertaining. I'd actually love to see Dakich go after Izzo and take his phony image down a peg or two.

"Izzo and MSU is just about the only thing ESPN likes about the big ten when it comes to college basketball."

come on

Don't be that fan. Too many Purdue fans like to play the role of the victim: "we get no respect", "we deserve to be ranked higher", "we're getting screwed", "if we were (insert any name you think fits), this wouldn't be happening".

Yea, that whole media bias thing is nothing but alternative facts. Just ask Fox News.

Hey BoilerStation, Dad's disappointed in you.
Here's to hoping Dakich doesn't get sensored by the machine. He could end up being the Purdue supporter on the inside of ESPN, ironically.

That would be the definition of fake news. However for this argument Dakich is correct. M$u is one of the easiest B1G schools to get into.
Correct or not it is unprofessional for an "unbiased" national broadcaster. Blast Izzo, lay off the academics of the students. To paraphrase a not-so-legendary coach: He's a man. He's (well over) 40.

I think this is where it gets tricky for a guy with a radio program or an analyst to also be a broadcaster. There are different expectations for each one. If Dakich didn't wear the national color commentator hat it probably wouldn't have been an issue.

fine wire to walk saying things to generate interest and going overboard. That can be their battle and hopefully distraction through Saturday

tend to agree

1. DD has a bit of conflicting interest in the situation

2. why would izzo even care

3. this is why grown men do not need social media !

Dan has never claimed to be unbiased.

Dan is an jerk trained by the world's biggest jerk. The only reason the MSU folks are mad is because he was spot on and truth hurts.

I tend to agree here, FDB. It appears (or it's the first time I'm aware of) DD went into "radio" mode on that one, or at least crossed the line. I wonder if there is more underneath to this.....sometimes there is.

I generally like DD as a broadcaster.....have only listened to a few podcasts posters have linked as to radio, so the radio comments are based on what others have posted here.

I completely agree. I think social media is especially dangerous for these guys because so many people are trying to bait you into a response. I see a lot of that with Mark Schlereth on Twitter as well where people tweet some ridiculous crap at him and he will get into a back and forth with them. I would really hate to see either guy lose their ESPN gig for a lowbrow comment on social media.

Didn't he say these things on his Twitter and not during the national broadcast? That would lead me to believe he was radio Dan.

Once again Izzo shows what a really class act he is.... now where are all those on here who said they would take Izzo in a heart beat here....lol. Gotta listen to Dan on the radio today....!!!

What I first heard was on radio....caller got Dan talking about whining fans then Dan went on to say worst in B1G were the Sparties...And the "game was on" so to speak!! And Izzo does kind of prove Dan's point!

Like I said there would be different expectations if his only job were "radio Dan". I'm sure "TV Dan" is being reminded of that by ESPN. If he would have left it at whiny fans it would be one thing, but disparaging MSU academics is another. I won't let my dislike of MSU sports teams nor my general enjoyment of Dan's analysis cloud my judgement on this. Izzo probably didn't need to go on a 2 minute rant, but I think it was understandable.

This is how Dakich works. That's getting listeners. Some people would say that's his job. The Mich-MSU thing may be a lower blow but big deal. I don't have a problem with the whiner showing his school's colors but the pissing match just reinforces his whiney attitude. We have brought up his whining forever, no need to debate that fact with even MSU fans. Even in this game, with the 3 straight offensive fouls on MSU, he was whining in the same ref's ear over and over, of course out on the court. Does he ever get a technical? They give him different standards than others on these things. Whether he's right or wrong on Dakich, he should just laugh mockingly or just say that was stupid and consider the idiot source. His response is like "I'm telling my mom on you unless you apologize." I have to say Twitter anger is like road rage sometimes. Some never do anything, some react but resist going the next step, others can't control themselves with their anger and then bring on a crash.

Thin skinned izzo needs to worry about his team and how he acts. Poor little snowflake. People are allowed to speak the truth! What dakich said is factual. If it hurts izzo and his minions feelings, too bad. Too much time in the college safe zone. He acted like a baby at the press conference. Izzo proves again that he is a whiny punk. He has proven again that he is a hypocrite. Look how he has handled his players and their on and off the court issues. He is acting like a former coach from another team in the B1G. ❄️❄️❄️

Yep. Whiniest fans led by the whiniest coach.

Dans son plays at UM so I think that added to it bit; personally anything that pisses off Izzo is fine with me

Yep. MSU fans have been ripping the younger Dakich on Twitter and I've seen at least a couple of times doing so in a tweet directly to his dad. I can't really fault Dan for reacting to the taunts of his son and giving the whiny MSU fans shot or two back.

For the record, I didn't think anything Dakich said about the MSU fans was either untrue or unwarranted. Calling someone "whiny" is hardly a below-the-belt insult like, say, mocking someone's son.

Would love to see the Paint Crew find a way to play off this "whiny" thing Saturday.

Saturday's game might be must see tv. MSU's bench sideline area might be a bit slippery from Izzo tears.

Wow, where are the MSU PC police? They used to be all over us should anyone besmirch Izzo or MSU. Lose a few games and their courage fades I guess.

Up here among the MSU and UM crowd, I would say DD has a point. In general, UM is much more difficult to get into academically than MSU. UM has the better programs and the better national reputation. MSU has some good programs too, but not of the same quality as UM. Sorry Spartans, but you should be rejoicing that Nebraska joined the BIG so you can claim the second rung from the bottom instead of the bottom.

I didn't say we were focused on in a negative way but MSU even when they are losing gets favorable coverage and Izzo and his teams are given a pass on a regular basis. It's not really a secret that ESPN isn't crazy about the Big Ten as a whole for leading the way and starting their own television station for coverage.

Wow, if you have the time (and patience) you can look at Feb 8 twitter from dakich. He has a very drawn out back and forth with msu fans, a few of whom said andrew dakich wasnt good enough to play in the 30 pt UM win over MSU (he is redshirt though). Dakich seemed to go on a more aggressive rant than usual after that, with plenty of back and forth and name calling. Im honestly surprised it got so much response from izzo.

All Izzo talking about this does is give Dakich credibility. I'm not sure why he would even feel the need to be involved. Dakich is looking for a reaction...that's it. He got one. He wins.

Are Flemming and Dakich calling Saturday's game? That is usually their assignment....4:00 EST, ESPN.

That would be interesting above and beyond the game itself. If so, get the popcorn ready.

I think Izzo responded because he is feeling pressure due to his teams poor performance. I'm not referring to job pressure but just pressure in general and he isn't handling it well this year. This is just a distraction and him trying to take the focus off the team who has struggled all year. I personally had more of an issue with the whining directed specifically at Haas at halftime of our game earlier this year. If you have a problem with a specific player and calls being made towards that player take it up with the refs. There was no place for it in a halftime interview other than to do literally what Dakich has stated, whine.

Wow... thanks for sharing. Izzo is 100% correct on this. DD is an idiot & showing his UM bias when he works for ESPN is totally unprofessional. I'm not a big Izzo fan, but he's a great coach (like it or not) & he's correct on this.

They are not anymore whiny than any other fan base. Like I said in the past, I wish CMP would work the ref's more... maybe Izzo over does it, but you can't argue with his results over his career. For DD to say MSU students are the ones that couldn't get into UM is totally off base. He would probably say the same thing about Purdue if IU wouldn't have shunned his a#$ when he wanted to be HC

Quite a few announcers have bias towards certain teams they are partial to or graduated from/attended. This is nothing new and it's one thing to make statements on ESPN during a game compared to on your own radio show.
