It will be interesting to see what happens. Stevens is a quiet person and when he left to Boston...nobody knew it was happening...I don't think it will...but we will see.
Alford - I did throw up. I think Stevens is the one to unite the base. With Alford, you have people like me (Alumni) who don't want him on the sidelines for the Pierre Pierce situation. To me, it is a spit in the face to women everywhere how he had his friend talk a girl out of rape charges for Pierce. To me....I don't know.....that is D-Bag material right there...I don't care if he is an IU great or not...you are remembered for what you do on and off the court..on the court..great basketball player and a good basketball coach....off the court....still deals with job...but Pierce situation to me...is unacceptable.
Calbert - No experience. He has less assistant coaching experience than any candidate. If you are going to mention someone with IU ties, make it better than someone with two years of Assistant Coaching experience. Like Lawrence Frank maybe....pro coach...assistant at Tennessee....IU graduate....
Stevens - Probably not coming, but he should be the first call.
Miller - Like I said, four years of experience and major roster turnover are red flags especially with all the turnover we had with Crean. Losing 7 players in year 4....two due to players being kicked off....but that is a HUGE red flag...he is doing a great job coaching this year...but 7 players! That shows either a personality issue or something else.
Pitino - It ain't happening! He is almost done. Don't need a potential issue with age and someone leaving in 5 years. Call me an ageist....but I would go with someone younger.
Smart - he could be exactly like Grant at Bama who is probably going to get canned after the season. With his style, he needs to recruit the athletes like Pitino is recruiting. Similar styles. For him to work, he would need to be able to recruit the athletes for his system that work.
Marshall - he would be interesting. He is supposedly an ego maniac like Crean. I probably is a better coach. But, at this level, you need to be able to recruit. I don't know if he can.
Then what do you do if IU's top 3 don't work...you go with a Miller type with limited success and take a risk? Or do you go for a young coach who is consistently at the top of his conference like Prohm, White or Jacobsen.
It will be an interesting offseason at IU. The defense this year has been atrocious. 229th nationally. Uncalled for even with a height issue. Crean improved that to 150...and we are talking probably a 24 win season...however, he was unable to do that. We will see what happens!

IUBTown....I'm hearing a lot of positive rumors about Archie Miller at Dayton. Have a great friend in Dayton that I do business with who is season ticket holder to Dayton basketball/OSU football and he swears Miller is the real deal...and he says he's a better coach than Matta. Problem is, IU needs an IU guy who knows the state and can come in and recruit it....Calbert would be a great one IMO. Miller has certainly done one hell of a job at Dayton this year after losing half his team. I really don't believe that Brad Stevens would leave Boston right now. They've blown that team up for him and now he'll get his players. Smart is a one hit wonder....he's not IU material right now because IU needs a "name" that has been to the top. Smart is good where he is in a much weaker league, but I doubt he'd succeed at IU. Marshall....another Tom Crean with success in the minor leagues. And do you and the rest of the IU nation want another Crean on the sidelines????
My picks if I were hiring:
Alford. Dont throw up.....To unite the fan base and I personally believe he's done a remarkable job at UCLA this year save a couple of bad losses after losing most of his team last season. How many of those UCLA recruits would follow him to IU. And you and I both know he would immediately own Indiana recruiting.Calbert. IU guy who's worked under Crean (and left for a reason), IU legend and now worked under Crews. Probably needs a HC job before coming to IU and the pressure.Stevens. But he's not coming. I put him at 3rd because of that "not coming" part.Miller.Rick Pitino. He wanted it when Crean got it.
My guess, they don't get anyone of those four and have to once again "settle". First thing I'd do would be to fire Fred Glass, put Downing in that position and move on.
