Looks like we are about to get Shaka Smart.
And the B1G is collectively trembling, again.

If you guys thought that Crean's physical fitness was intimidating, just wait until you see what shaka does to you guys. He will tear your team limb from limb. Gosh it's too easy cleaning up!

I truly think this guy has about 20 id's that he uses here. What is funny is he probably truly believes that anyone would fear or be intimidated by anyone IU hires. We'll still dominate them either way.

love the ignore feature...did some IU ass hat say something.

Boiler Up!

Just as long as he hires an A Hope guy as video coordinator, I am fine with it.

hehehehe you really think that you will dominate shaka?

ummmm.. need i bring up the picture of rickety robbie hummel bawling his eyes out on the sideline while PU gets smashed by 30!?!?!?

NEED I?!?1

i didn't think so.. respect shaka and his sculpted features... or he will destroy you... again

Hope you enjoy the NIT!

Nope, Shaka isn't coming. Why is it fools like you don't realize that Clappy McTannerson was the best you mouth breathers could do last time.

you think we care about the NIT?
shaka smart.. you may remember him...
young, ripped, and most importantly.. he blasted the best purdue team in the last 20 years.... hehehehe

that's the guy that's strutting into bloomington...

time to take cover, dum dums

Another IU Butt-Pirate.... to be expected.

Now where did the crazy, homosexual love for Tom Crean go? Just last week i was thinking someone needed to send you and him a gift basket of KY!

If that's your thing then more power to you bud...but ol tommy's gonna get jealous if you start showing your love to another man. I don't think tommy's secure enough to handle that

Tommy is about to walk away from the job his life with the grace of a swan...

i respect that... and we are bringing someone just as fierce and lean as tommy... me and tom are fine with that

reasonable, two weeks ago you were here telling us how great Crean was. Now, he is apparantly gone, or so you and the Peegsters claim, and now Shaka is gongi to come in and dominate?

Just two questions:

1. why the sudden change of heart/love for TC?; and

2. I watched Shaka's team get whipped by Davidson last night. If Davidson can whip him, why do you think the other teams in the B1G won't?

what was that, 4, 5 years ago? you're reaching crazy person. That's like comparing when Purdue stomped IU in Crean's first year when they were playing with walk ons...its not even apples to oranges...its apples to flower pots. But keep going, i'll follow crazy..always fun

peegs didn't report that, geezer...

tom is still just as ferocious as he has ever been.. but he is walking away.. with class and grace that painter could only dream of.

shaka is much less forgiving than crean.. crean shows mercy.. shaka does not...
ya'll are in for a rather unfortunate surprise

using the only head to head example is comparing apples to flower pots? durrrrrr... ok..

when both teams were good? durrrrrrrr... ok

what a silly example to use....

with the power of iu behind shaka the beatdowns will be thrice the size of the vcu/purdue beatdown

Dubiak5454....It's evidnent that you're lacking in the common sense/rational development part of your life. Shaka Smart is worse than Tom Crean who is Mike Davis Light. Smart is Mike Davis low calorie light. But then, Smart might be the only one they could get....other than Bruce Pearl

if we want billy donovan, ripped billy, we get him
if we want greg marshall, we get him..
if we want archie miller, we get him
matta, we get him
pearl, done

we get whoever we want... better get used to it

I HOPE you get Bruce Pearl...no offense but he is like a Tom Crean carbon-copy, but at least Pearl is enjoyable and personable...still don't think he can coach and uses tactics like painting his chest to a WBB game to get publicity. If Tom ever did that, I'm sure it would notch the creepy meter up to a point of no return and we'd be seeing him in the loony bin.

While you are listing off names, why not Phil Jackson? Or what about Isaiah Thomas? Hell, why not shoot for the moon and try to dig up the bones of John Naismith and prop them up on the sideline on a stool? Those bones would still probably know more basketball and do more in game coaching that Tom Crean has in the last 8 years.

reasonableguy22 is one of your "sleep with your sister" type fans....you have to treat them delicately.......

Twindegrees...it looks like your friend was right.....from what you said about the IU coaching situation.....

As an alumni, I think you go with this list....even if you strike out...it is worth the call....these 3 coaches would work at IU and I believe the Big 10....

1) Brad Stevens - you have to make the call. 77% winning percentage at Butler. Will it happen? Probably not...but you have to at least call. One of the posters who posted something similar to you said he would be interested. He posted stuff awhile back though. So why not?
2) Shaka Smart - bright young coach with a brain.....and teaches defense. The one thing he needs though...is to recruit like Pitino. Similar systems....need similar athletes......I think he is a young Pitino. 74% winning percentage.
3) Gregg Marshall - 72% winning percentage...another high maintenance coach...but he produces better than Crean....the question is can he recruit at this level....will he just take 4 star kids and coach them up like he does with 3 stars and JUCOs at Wichita State.

Then it gets murky......with the young coaches at smaller schools
Ben Jacobsen
Michael White
Steve Prohm

It is looking like a change will happen soon though.

IU basketball and drama.....it is becoming the norm.....

No Archie Miller?

With Crean, our biggest problem was roster management. Archie Miller has two NCAA tournament appearances (including this year) and 4 years of experience. Last year he had 5 transfers and 2 players kicked off. That is a lot of players leaving....and he relies heavily on the transfer market....I don't know. Red flags to me. I think he needs to prove more.

IUBTown....I'm hearing a lot of positive rumors about Archie Miller at Dayton. Have a great friend in Dayton that I do business with who is season ticket holder to Dayton basketball/OSU football and he swears Miller is the real deal...and he says he's a better coach than Matta. Problem is, IU needs an IU guy who knows the state and can come in and recruit it....Calbert would be a great one IMO. Miller has certainly done one hell of a job at Dayton this year after losing half his team. I really don't believe that Brad Stevens would leave Boston right now. They've blown that team up for him and now he'll get his players. Smart is a one hit wonder....he's not IU material right now because IU needs a "name" that has been to the top. Smart is good where he is in a much weaker league, but I doubt he'd succeed at IU. Marshall....another Tom Crean with success in the minor leagues. And do you and the rest of the IU nation want another Crean on the sidelines????

My picks if I were hiring:
Alford. Dont throw up.....To unite the fan base and I personally believe he's done a remarkable job at UCLA this year save a couple of bad losses after losing most of his team last season. How many of those UCLA recruits would follow him to IU. And you and I both know he would immediately own Indiana recruiting. I know through ties with the Alford family that there is no chance he'd come back after the way he was lied to and treated after RMK was let go.Calbert. IU guy who's worked under Crean (and left for a reason), IU legend and now worked under Crews. Probably needs a HC job before coming to IU and the pressure.Stevens. But he's not coming. I put him at 3rd because of that "not coming" part.Miller.Rick Pitino. He wanted it when Crean got it.
My guess, they don't get anyone of those four or five and have to once again "settle". First thing I'd do would be to fire Fred Glass, put Downing in that position and move on.

It will be interesting to see what happens. Stevens is a quiet person and when he left to Boston...nobody knew it was happening...I don't think it will...but we will see.

Alford - I did throw up. I think Stevens is the one to unite the base. With Alford, you have people like me (Alumni) who don't want him on the sidelines for the Pierre Pierce situation. To me, it is a spit in the face to women everywhere how he had his friend talk a girl out of rape charges for Pierce. To me....I don't know.....that is D-Bag material right there...I don't care if he is an IU great or not...you are remembered for what you do on and off the court..on the court..great basketball player and a good basketball coach....off the court....still deals with job...but Pierce situation to me...is unacceptable.

Calbert - No experience. He has less assistant coaching experience than any candidate. If you are going to mention someone with IU ties, make it better than someone with two years of Assistant Coaching experience. Like Lawrence Frank maybe....pro coach...assistant at Tennessee....IU graduate....

Stevens - Probably not coming, but he should be the first call.

Miller - Like I said, four years of experience and major roster turnover are red flags especially with all the turnover we had with Crean. Losing 7 players in year 4....two due to players being kicked off....but that is a HUGE red flag...he is doing a great job coaching this year...but 7 players! That shows either a personality issue or something else.

Pitino - It ain't happening! He is almost done. Don't need a potential issue with age and someone leaving in 5 years. Call me an ageist....but I would go with someone younger.

Smart - he could be exactly like Grant at Bama who is probably going to get canned after the season. With his style, he needs to recruit the athletes like Pitino is recruiting. Similar styles. For him to work, he would need to be able to recruit the athletes for his system that work.

Marshall - he would be interesting. He is supposedly an ego maniac like Crean. I probably is a better coach. But, at this level, you need to be able to recruit. I don't know if he can.

Then what do you do if IU's top 3 don't work...you go with a Miller type with limited success and take a risk? Or do you go for a young coach who is consistently at the top of his conference like Prohm, White or Jacobsen.

It will be an interesting offseason at IU. The defense this year has been atrocious. 229th nationally. Uncalled for even with a height issue. Crean improved that to 150...and we are talking probably a 24 win season...however, he was unable to do that. We will see what happens!

Now, here is evidence and proof (since you obviously are an idiot)

Less than 24 hours ago, Fred Glass (you know, the guy that is the AD at IU and is responsible for the hiring and firing of the MBB program) explained to Sports Illustrated (you know, one of the most respected sports reporting magazines and websites in the world) a piece that went like this:

"I'm bullish on Tom," Indiana athletic director Fred Glass told ESPN.com. "He's done a really good job with these guys. It's ridiculous to say that someone is coaching for his job for one game and that it would be up or down in one game."

Glass goes on to say:

"The rise and fortunes of Indiana [athletics] is with Indiana basketball," Glass said. "Everybody thinks the guy with the clipboard, the next guy, can be better. But starting over is overrated. You can't be willy-nilly about it."

In all fairness, it does sound like the AD does understand you can't just find a new guy and expect better results. In most cases, you would find yourself in a worse situation than before. Most reasonable Purdue fans realize this with Coach Painter and his weaknesses (recruiting) are a some what easy fix by hiring of assistant coaches and self-awareness while recruiting guys who buy in to his system. For you to spout of as you are doing when the man in charge is saying something completely different makes me view you as a complete fool and an idiot. Whether you are a white collar guy making tons of money or a blue collar guy flipping burgers...it doesn't matter because what you are showing here is a true lack reasonable thinking and a serious issue with attention getting.

Fred Glass on Tom Crean

Re: Now, here is evidence and proof (since you obviously are an idiot)

Fred Glass is a lawyer. We have a 12 million dollar buyout clause which is offset by Tom Crean getting a new job. What if he already has one lined up?
