I personally would love to walk past a statue of Tyler on the way into Ross ade...

How about a fountain? In line with our campus fountain tradition (Engineering, LAEB, John Purdue, Lions) and symbolism of flowing water and life.

Perhaps, thinking a bit bigger, the fountain could be in tribute to all Purdue students we have lost through the years. There could be a plaque in the viewing area with a tribute to Tyler with instructions on how to donate to various groups that fight cancer and perhaps addictions, suicide, etc.

PU Football could initiate a Tyler Trent Award at year end banquet similar to Pop Doan Award or Noble Kiser Award given each season. Maybe for non-scholly overachiever showing spirit and academic excellence. My HS had a similar award named for a football alum KIA in Viet Nam every year.

I am sure there are alot of Purdue alumni battling cancer or some disease. Be nice to honor some of them so a foundation may be good?

A statue can represent an individual and the struggle and journey of others as well. Does the Tomb of the Unknown soldier make the sacrifices of others less substantial? Does Neil’s statue make Gus Grissom’s and Gene Cerna’s contributions any less?

Not sure a statue is warranted, but the scholarship idea is fantastic. The end of year award is another great idea.

No offense, but I don't think you understand the impact he had for Purdue and potential that impact could play for both Purdue and cancer research for decades to come. A constant reminder of what it means to be the consummate Boilermaker - starting a tradition of student support for our football program by camping out around a statue as shown in the image above could invigorate our students and entire fan base. And end of year award will be forgotten - only seen by those inside some conference room where it is announced and only remembered by those who are awarded. This has the potential of raising awareness and money for cancer research for decades.

Everyone should realize that statues can be "hit or miss" they are representative works of art-not all of them are good ideas and certainly much depends on the sculptors abilities, experience and objective interpretation of the subject . I'm no art expert but I know what I like-Neal Armstrong outside Aeronautical E Bldg, John Purdue on Memorial Mall, The Boilermaker, etc but it diminishes Amelia Earhart to be standing outside of a food court and has anyone ever viewed Harry Carey outside Wrigley? It scares little children! John Wooden representation on Maryland St in downtown Indy is ridiculous looking.

Although I am all for a statue, my mother had a very good idea:

The Tyler Trent Purdue Cancer Research Center along with a statue placed outside the stadium or a fountain placed outside the stadium when the south end zone is completed.
