Mitch being a financial guy hopefully sees the hole that Burke is digging for the University at large. Texas had the balls to fire their AD and so many others have done so in the past as well. UM fires theirs and made a commitment to make their program great again.
Yes, hazell's buyout is huge for a school like Purdue, but what is the potential lost cost for allowing a program to continue to flatline longer? Im not expecting sold out stadiums every weekend, but outside of homecoming, how many fans will show up for this product?
The lost costs, IMO, total in the millions every Saturday from lost revenues from tickets, merchandise, parking, and concessions. Hell, the first three home games of this season, they didn't even have all the concessions staffed and open! Yes the buyout is large but can Purdie afford another low win season coupled with low attendance? My answer is no and a change needs to be made! And the thing is, I don't think most Purdue fans expect a program to compete for national titles, Major bowls, and such every year...they just want a team that competes and is able to win the games they should and probably average about 7 wins a year. In this day and age, that's not a difficult task.
