How long until Caleb makes it official?

Wonder if he's going to declare and go through the process (without an agent) before shutting the door completely on coming back or if he just declares here in the next week and makes it final.

I guess with the situation he's in, there is no rush to hire an agent since Barnes could either be his agent or just act as one until they make it official if they decide they don't want to mix business with family permanently.

Agree on the last part... he's got Barnes to do all the agent stuff, so no need at all to hire one. Not like he'd gain much by formally hiring a 3rd party agent now as opposed to 3-4 weeks from now if it won't be Barnes (but seems likely it would/could be).

Also, I'm not sure if it matters too much when he announces, it's practically a foregone conclusion. "Business decision" and all that stuff. That's still the plan. He didn't want to come back last year and seriously considered a contract-less D-league over coming back. This year, he averaged a double double and was in player of the year talks before Mason and KU dismantling in the S16. I don't think Caleb ever really viewed Purdue as much more than just a necessary evil to get to his ultimate goal, and he's only months away from reaching that.

It's Swanigan, so you know we will not know anything official until the last possible minute.

But I don't think there is anyway he comes back next year.

Agree. That's why I asked the question. Have heard several others make their announcements already. Lonzo Ball literally didn't have the time to stop sweating from his last game before he made his decision known.

That's probably my guess as well. It will drag out and he'll declare without an agent, get the feedback, and then make his decision to go simply because there's really no benefit to him to do anything on an earlier schedule.

That said, I wouldn't be completely stunned if he made it final later this week either if it's as forgone a conclusion as everyone seems to think.

I fear you are correct on Mason. I have a hard time comparing a player with 3 to 4 Burger Boys on his team that obviously increases his assists to Purdue with 1 and a supporting cast while playing a position that was intended to be enhanced by the rule changes with minimal defense that can be played out in space to a player that has bodies push and shoving on him, grabbing him, reaching over him, shoving knees into him, placing a bent hand on his back all physical things to reduce his effectiveness and he has to run much farther each possession to begin to be effective. Now if Mason could do all that and be defended...it would bbe more meaningful IMO

I don't doubt that was true when he showed up on campus in 2015. That said, it sure seemed like he was intent on winning down the stretch this year. I think he was probably more invested in the program this year than we think. If he felt his time at Purdue was a "necessary evil" he sure hid it pretty well over the last two months.

I think he needs to come back. He has impressive numbers for college, but the fact he cannot guard anyone at the 3 or 4, I doubt he will get drafted in the first, maybe late second. Does he really want to play overseas? Come back, improve his quickness and get his degree! North Carolina, Kansas star players stay 4 years, why not Purdue!

Sorry, didn't mean to imply he wasn't committed to winning. In fact, I've long thought that he was the only guy on the floor that played like he believed they could win every game. I just meant I don't think he had that much of a fondness about anything in particular about Purdue, but would agree he's probably developed some good relationships, etc. during his time. I mean, you spend 2 years with the same group of people, it's only naturally to form some bonds.

what is the latest as far as his draft projection? Is he expected to be a first rounder?

Late first around 25-27 from what I see.

Granted this factors in kids regardless if they have entered or not

He would be worth having on your team just because of his work ethic. Maybe the other players will see him and dedicate more time on their game like him?

He could be waiting to see who else is declaring. Every year there is someone who comes out of no where to declare and get drafted.

Possibly. The draft express board has a lot of college kids on it that I'm not actually sure they have declared. Who knows De'Aaron Fox and Malik Monk could say they are coming back.

That's because that was LaVar speaking. His Dad has everything scripted, they do as he says and speak what he dictates.

I would guess he waits to make it official because there is really no reason to yet. I think Rosie has been in contact with Painter and has given him the game plan already. I think he leaves. I think it's already decided. I think he needs to stay a year to improve his defense but Caleb's always been about business so he goes.
