Taking away $100 million in tv money would make their problems worse, IMO.
Not nil related but i could see universities playing football in one conference and all other sports in another to reduce travel costs. I believe northern illinois is leaving the mac for the mountain west (football only) and playing in the mvc for all others.
I think research grants and research sharing within the Big Ten Academic Alliance will keep them in.
Athletics revenue is small peanuts compare to the Billions in research grants.

Why would NIL cause this to happen? Northwestern isn't typically competing for Big 10's yet they've never left. A lot more prestige (and $) tied to the larger conferences. TV money rules.
It would be hard for any BT school to want to move to another conference with the new TV right deal and the money associated with that. If anything, it will entice other schools in other conferences to want to come to the BT to get their piece too.
How soon before , rather than adding schools the Big 10 and SEC start kicking some teams out of the conferences, who can't compete in football? We might be in that group and for sure NW would be.
No team would walk away from the money. Also, not every sport is a lock against either school. The 4 west coast teams took the money along with all the hardship of traveling. It's all about the money. With revenue sharing winning doesn't factor into it.
