"Now, five out of six parties on the ballot favour Greenland's independence from Denmark, differing only on how quickly that should come about. Voting takes place over 11 hours at 72 polling stations, and ends at 20:00 local time on Tuesday (22:00G). The debate over independence has been "put on steroids by Trump", says Masaana Egede, editor of Greenlandic newspaper Sermitsiaq."

Vance going to Greenland this week (link). I dearly wish that Trump had handled this more tactfully, but the bottom line is that Greenland is of tremendous strategic importance as the earth warms and the Arctic Ocean becomes navigable.

I understand the pride of Greenland’s people in not wanting to be “taken over” by the US but let’s be realistic. This country has 57,000 people. Kokomo has 59,000 people. They would be far better off as a US territory or state.

From Wikipedia:
"The economy of Greenland is characterized as small, mixed and vulnerable.[8] Greenland's economy consists of a large public sector and comprehensive[9] foreign trade. This has resulted in an economy with periods of strong growth, considerable inflation, unemployment problems and extreme dependence on capital inflow from the Kingdom Government.[8] Greenland's economy is hampered by lack of infrastructure with less than 100 miles of paved roads. However as of 2012, partly due to the retreating ice sheet due to climate change, Greenland was starting to emerge as a territory rich with untapped mining resources."

"Greenland's per capita disposable income is the lowest in the Arctic other than Russia's, and less than one third that of the American state of Alaska.[10] GDP per capita is close to the average for European economies, but the economy is critically dependent upon substantial support from the Danish government, which supplies about half the revenues of the self-rule government, which in turn employs 10,307 Greenlanders[11] out of 25,620 currently in employment (2015). Unemployment nonetheless remains high, with the rest of the economy dependent upon exports of shrimp and fish."

So here is a country with no agriculture, no industry, less than 100 miles in paved roads, two out of five are employed by the government and half the revenue for that is a handout from Denmark, the people live at the poverty level compared to Alaska and people openly complain that their education system and medical care are inadequate.

BB62, I don't care what the country bumpkin leaders of their five political parties got together and squealed. When they see The Light, they will come to Jesus.

I don't know what's worse. You insulting the people of Greenland..........who you learned so much about from wiki.........or you arrogantly thinking they should be happy to be taken over by the US. Or your clear desire for the US to return to the days of imperialism.........like our concern would be improving their lives rather than exploit their natural resources and take advantage of their strategic location. Or that you think they must be unhappy and would welcome our conquest. They should be on their knees begging us to help them. Mostly your BS religious reference, like that has a damn thing to do with anything. Is trump the light or Jesus in your statement?

All you MAGAs want us to insanely withdraw from the world and do everything on our own.........except when we can bully a smaller country into giving us what we want.

You're a freakin Neanderthal.

These people are living in poverty and ignorance. Greenland is probably the last vestige of colonialism on planet earth. Becoming an American territory or state would provide them with modern medicine, nutrition, a solid education system, economic growth, jobs, Social Security, Medicare, social services, on and on. But you'd rather keep them keep them ignorant and freezing in their fishing boats.

It's their choice dumbass, not yours. Not the US government's. Not trump's.

Wtf do you know about how happy or satisfied they are? You sound like the Bush admin who thought the Iraqis would love freedom and democracy if we just forced it upon them.

And BTW, you fck all the way off with your replies. You cut off what you have no answer for in almost every reply. Pretty cowardly for a tough guy who likes to pretend to be so sure of himself.

The people of Greenland don't know that they're living in a Danish fiefdom. They don't know that their standard of living is sub-standard, less that on third the per capita GDP of Alaska. They need to make an educated choice, not a decision based upon far-left TDS news reports.
