his play is totally killing us, the only thing he did was one steal underneath, when we got him and what I saw as a frosh, I figured he would be a consistent really good player by the the time he's a Jr. He doesn't always seem dialed in to the game.

Good news is Biggie, DM and CE kept us in the game.

I knew he wasn't dialed in when Carsen dropped a perfect pass to him on a drive and Vince wasnt ready for it.

He looks like Low-Energy Vince.

Painter needs to chew his azz out...as in get in your face!!!! Maybe that will wake him up.....I am just at a loss!1

You ever see the "smoking jay cutler" website? It reminds me of VE and his mouthpiece. May have to photoshop a cigarette in place of the mouthpiece. But I won't....VE still a Boiler and I want him to come around...

sure, he didn't have a good shooting game, but he was active on defensive and on the boards.

we run the O through biggie and vince gets his O from secondary options. Honestly, there wasn't a lot of opportunity for him today, but he did NOT force things trying to get his, which is how he needs to play.

if you want to point someone out, it's Haas. The travel, the technical. The missed free throws late in the game. Seemed that the crowd rattled him. We almost lost in the most Purdue way because of it.

Just how many f' free throws did he miss late in the game.I remember one then he hit 2 LATE in the game.Get on VE ass if you want to blame someone!!

Does Purdue have a sports psychologist? If so, Vince needs to talk to him/her. Or maybe I need to talk to one as his inconsistency is driving me mad.

The 2 he missed when the crowd started chanting at him.

I thought Haas did OK overall! He actually made some late clutch free throws! That technical shouldn't have been called. It wasn't like he was in the refs face. Vince needs to figure out how to bring it every game. We are going to need him playing well. Maybe his back is still bothering him. In his defense, I did think he got fouled quite a few times where he didn't get the call.

It was good to see this game won based on our some of our non-primary players.

While Swanigan obviously carried a big load, we finished the game without him. And Edwards basically was a no-show.

It was great to see guys step up and hit some big shots - PJ, Carsen, Dakota, Ryan - and Haas came in and hit two very clutch free throws at the end of a very frustrating game for him.

Hardly call 8 rebounds, 3 assists and ZERO to's as a no show. It was a rough game shooting wise but he only attempted 2 3's so it wasn't like he was jacking shots.

IH split a pair in the first half, then missed a front end right before the possession leading to the technical, IIRC. He made two big ones @ 0:38 to get Purdue back within a point, 72-71.

I don't think that he's 100% physically. He is better offensively than what we've seen recently.

Couple of points.

First, I believe VE should have been credited with 2 turnovers. Both were given to Carsen. The first was a Carsen drive at start of game who dumped a pass toVE on baseline when his defender rotated onto Carsen. VE fumbled pass as he wasnt ready for it. The second was when VE was leading the 3 on two break after we stole a pass. VE tried to kick it into the corner in front of Maryland bench but his pass went right to a defender. I only bring that up to those saying he had ZERO to's (yes, according to boxscore they are correct but my eyes told me otherwise).

Second and more important, I think VE has lost a lot of weight from last two years and he has not adjusted to his new (and possibly weaker) body. I would assume he did this as he expected to play the wing this year and wanted to improve quickness. In fact, I would guess he worked hard at hit as that is likely some NBA feedback (get quicker) and also what Purdue wanted since we planned on starting two giants. Unfortunately, I dont think it has helped his first step quickness (yet); if anything it has hindered it. Again, getting used to a 'new body' could take time. I still can't get over how small he looks now....

On your first point, he was just add standing there looking. He wasn't ready for the pass and he wasn't getting in position to rebound either.

As I've said before, I stood next him and briefly spoke to him at the team scrimmage/alumni game in August. I noticed how skinny he was right then. Yes, he definitely lost weight (probably feedback from the NBA scouts in order to try and improve his quickness).

BTW, he's also definitely 6'8: I've always listed him as that but standing next to someone that makes you feel so short just reinforces that fact, lol.

Vince also had a critical steal towards the end after a missed shot I believe that led to a bucket.

Vince does a lot of great things whether he's scoring or not. The question is do you want him to try to get it going (i.e. going 0-7) or do you want him to do the things he can contribute and go 0-3. We know the guy can be deadly, so it's a risk we gotta take. I think Vince does a good job of controlling himself - he obviously tried to get going against Maryland because he had such a great game a few days prior. Knowing how streaky he is, it's going to be hard to make any runs in either tournament without him being consistent, particularly when Swanigan/Haas are not in ideal foul situations.

He had 20 points vs. Notre Dame this season and 20-something points vs. Little Rock last season (just two examples). I don't think your analysis of him is spot-on. He's just inconsistent for one reason or another.
This. Inconsistent. He's had some really good games. He did disappear against L'ville, which was a big game.

Purdue is built in a way where they don't need him to score as long as he is smart with the ball (making good assists and not turning the ball over). They also need him to rebound and play defense. As long as he isn't forcing shots he will be fine. He is a good enough player that eventually the ball will find the hoop. He just needs to stay engaged and play hard. The problem has been that when he has an off night shooting, he keeps forcing shots, turns the ball over, and doesn't seem engaged. That is when an off night shooting hurts us.
