Glad Haas is on our team!

I love having him and his size, however, he has very poor footwork and agility to go along with his size. Many of his shots are just plain awful. He's rigid. But he's humble and a good kid and sometimes can come alive randomly....he will improve next year.... Haas today is a tree that blocks lanes and helps keep AJ rested when needed. Period.

hahahahahaha...whew! thanks for the laugh

I just watched a clip where Isaac gave AJ a high five coming off the court. His selfless nature has been key to our team's success. I know he's been doing this all year, but it just amazes me the change in culture compared to a few years ago. Boiler up! Win or lose tomorrow, I am all in.

I'm not sure if this got a mention on this forum, but in Doyel's article about Purdue from yesterday (published today), he mentioned that earlier this week, the players were all hanging out outside of practice (they're on spring break), not sitting around watching TV, but putting together a 3 on 3 tournament between themselves that lasted until 2 am. For the record, the winning trio was Swanigan, Edwards and Stephens.

That's what cracks me up about some of the comments people make on this forum sometimes....these guys really like each other and work hard. It may get frustrating seeing a player do this or that on the court, but at the end of the day, this entire roster is one you should be proud to call Boilermakers.

Haas isn't as mobile as AJ and that will be his biggest hurdle to overcome in order to ever be the type of player AJ has been this season. Offensively I think he can match AJs numbers if he continues to work on his post up game. I'm not sure he will ever be the same type of defensive presence AJ has been but then again very few centers are at that level.

I think Isaac's footwork has really improved - and while he may not be quick, he's a lot quicker than he was last year.

As for defense, I think they're different kinds of defenders in general. AJ really isn't a body up defender. Isaac is. However, being a successful defender is obviously not an individual task in basketball. I think our interior defense hasn't been "as" strong (although still very strong) because Swanigan has been an iffy defender this season and AJ has had to make up a lot for it. Going into next year, Haas may not be what Hammons is, but if Swanigan improves to be a good defender (which I would suspect he will), Haas doesn't need to be. I think the bigger question is how we'll play when Haas isn't in.

BTW it is nice to see a recruit that switched to Purdue at the last minute for solid reasons have it work out for both him and Purdue. Highlights the reasons why we shouldn't worry about having a couple open scholarships for next year. Things change constantly and players move. Recruits switch after coaching changes. Players transfer or switch for fifth years. I think it is actually a good practice to keep a future scholarship in your back pocket most of the time. When a Haas or Octeus shake loose at the last minute you want to have the ability to take them.

Not much to laugh at, really. Just stating facts. Everyone agreeing with the need for his footwork to improve is evidence of this. I know everyone is "high" with our win today, but that doesn't mean you can't discuss the reality of our strengths and weaknesses. He's a good kid that isn't near as good as his size.......YET. Nothing ignorant or incorrect with that statement.

While he certainly has plenty of room to improve, I don't think I'd describe him as having "very poor" football/agility. Is it excellent? No. But don't think I'd say very poor.
