Gicarri Harris

wait until you see Harris before you run Colvin down.
this is the thing right? I don’t think it’s likely but there’s a chance that Myles didn’t get much better in the off-season, but we won’t know until we see them play. It’s disingenuous to say otherwise.

I understand the schtick from the Sleepers guys and why they make these binary clickbait comments, but we don’t have to fall for them.

And by all accounts, Colvin has looked really good in practice —shooting it, getting his own shot, understanding the offense and defense better (as one would expect in year 2) and defending his man.

It’s quite crazy to me that ppl get so caught up in who is gonna start. Like TKR stated last year but often Gillis played way more mins and closed the game out.

Love a guy that can come off the bench and stick a couple threes. He's that guy.

So far his career high is 11....I think? I hope we see a 20+ point game this year. Or better yet at least more consistent 10+ games, which I think so far has only amassed maybe once? To lazy to look it up so correct me if I am wrong....

It means Colvin still has no idea where to be on D. Why do you need a second ball handler when you have the best PG in the conference and possibly the country, and want to play 5 out with 4 shooters surrounding him?
Because humans get tired when they work too hard. As noted: with Lance gone, guarding the quick pg's in on Braden for now.
Don't want the driver of the offense getting worn down when he has to guard an elite scorer.

Exactly...several reasons, but one being just how advanced Harris is in his development and what he brings to the table on both ends. Like wait until you see Harris before you run Colvin down. Myles D had much improved late in the season last year and definitely wasn't a liability. Overall, I felt that he was better defensively than Fletch on several occasions.
It isn't a lack of improvement or lack of talent from the other options, just an indication of how talented GH is.
Ok, Harris is a one and done. You've sold me.

Either he can and he starts, or he can't and that's why Harris would start. This isn't rocket science. 😂
So was TKR better than Gillis since he started, even though Gillis averaged more mins and closed out games?

This whole arguing about starters makes no sense to me.

It.
Does.
Not.
Matter.

It’s about who complements our main piece(s) the best.

I definitely agree that Fletch ain't guarding anybody, and you want to give Braden a break on defense because he plays so many minutes. So whoever plays this position gets the others teams best guard. It was Colvin's spot to lose. One of two things happened.

And what we want out of this complimentary piece is defense and shooting, and you had a guy already penned in as a starter who was very good at one of those and was hoped to progress on the other. So, again, either one of two things happened. Harris is insanely good, or CMP didn't see that progress.

Assuming Harris starts and this isn't all internet nonsense. And then you're not arguing with me, you're arguing with the coach who made the move.

Fletch wasn’t as bad as ppl have made it out to be. He was pretty good vs Knecht in Maui and also against Arizona. He knows where to be on team defense and if you want to try and single out when Buie sought him out to go 1v1, there aren’t a lot of guys in the country who can guard the 9th year, Buie, 1v1.

I’m arguing with you only. I trust paint. But I think you’re missing the point that “Myles hasn’t developed to be a great defender”. That may not be his role. And his role may be to come off the bench to score and backup fletch.

You just don’t know and you’re assuming the worst. All good though.

I don’t know that it was ever a realistic expectation for Myles to be a great defender in year two. That may come down the road for this season he just needed to reliably play team defense, be in the right spot and rebound in addition to his offense.

The hype from high school was that he was an awesome defender, an outstanding ball handler and a great shooter. He was also a tremendous leader and made those around him better.

It should be said that this was a player that Painter was still recruiting even though he had reached his scholarship limit. And painter said This is the guy ewe want and need.

I’m not a huge fan of Painters’s 3 guard offense. But if you are going to put a guard in the 3 spot, Harris is probably the best choice and most talented player for the position.

Braden and Loyer were outstanding as freshmen. I have to believe Harris will be just as good.

As for Cox, Myles, Heide and all the rest, they are still great players, but Harris is better.

As I look at all the players painter was recruiting this summer, I have to believe they saw Harris and didn’t want to compete with him for playing time.

Is Harris better than Haralson and Mullins and Sisley and all the rest? I don’t know. But he could be.
I think Cox is going to be needed getting his own shots as the season progresses. He is so fast doing it.

I could see Gicarri as a four year starter for Purdue. He probably doesn’t have the offensive game Cox has but he is certainly no slouch. His defense will be where he shines.

Gee I thought he was already anointed into a lottery pick in 2025?
