For all of you people complaining about Painter...

Never have I seen the assertion made that Painter is THE problem...a contributing factor for certain, and arguably the greatest contributing factor, but, I don't recall ever seeing anyone saying that HE was THE problem...that is nothing more than you (and/or others) spinning something...as you suggested elsewhere in the thread...#alternativefacts.

You've beat the drum every chance you could that it starts with the coach but when backed into a corner you claim that isn't what you're saying? Ok man. If what you're saying isn't clear enough to all the people responding then I'm really not interested in digging through your drivel to discern what you "really" mean. Good day.

We got rid of the biggest problem last summer.
While not totally disagreeing, as he was indeed a significant problem (in every way conceivable)...pretty sure when JJJ announced for MSU this past fall, that the name Morgan Burke was never mentioned, nor part of the equation or a consideration.

Kris Wilkes not having any interest in Purdue had nothing to do with Morgan Burke.

Actually, we're not getting rid of "the biggest problem" until July 1, 2017.

With respect to your point on Butler, it would be crazy to suggest that their success in the NCAA tournament did not improve or impact their recruiting significantly.

Just today, there was an update on their present state of recruiting...
"With an open weekend, Holtmann was in Bloomington on Friday to see Bloomington North’s Musa Jallow (ranked 75th by Rivals.com) and at O’Fallon, Ill., on Saturday to see Torrence Watson of St. Louis (93rd), Tim Finke of Champaign, Ill. (77th) and Ayo Dosunmu of Chicago (22nd).

Finke, whose brother Michael plays for Illinois, is the most recent prospect to be offered a Butler scholarship. Also holding offers are Dosunmu, Jallow, Tindley’s Eric Hunter (78th), Watson, McCutcheon’s Robert Phinisee (134th) and Jordan Lathon (148th) of Grandview, Mo.

Dwayne Cohill, a 6-4 guard from Cleveland (66th), has a Feb. 19 visit planned to Butler.

One Butler signee, 6-7 wing Christian David, is averaging 12 points, five rebounds and seven assists for Vermont Academy. He is ranked 93rd in the 2017 class by Rivals."

Seems as if Butler not only has benefited from their national success, but that they are taking full advantage of it as well (and, quite frankly, it would have been even more visible had Stevens not left)...something Purdue/Painter failed to do when it had the opportunity following the Baby Boilers class.
Joining the big east is the driver. Butler is not the little mid major now. They are recruiting the same kids we do while part of a p5 type conference like us. They should be recruiting like this. Even Cinderella grows up.

Please don't ignore 1 fact. Coach Painter himself wants those kids too but miss. Please don't pretend that he doesn't want them and don't pursue those kids and rather have some 3 stars players instead. My challenge is.. how can we improve the success rate of recruiting?

My guess is any fan anywhere would always support continuing to improve their school's recruiting....But I am far more interested in Purdue getting young men and women of character as well as talent who want to play at Purdue because of what Purdue basketball represents to the school and its fan base....not simply how many stars behind their name. That doesn't mean I believe all 5*s are delinquents, but I do believe Biggie and his character and work ethic is more the exception than the rule when it comes to 5*s and their willingness to fit a blue collar "team" approach. It is absolutely wonderful when we can have both such as with Biggie but suspect there aren't many in the top 50 who can compete with him in those areas...which is what makes him so special not just to the fans but his coaches and teammates as well. I will choose 3*s who Painter believes fit our system over the Grayson Allens of the recruiting world and the serious troublemakers that continue to plague Michigan State year after year. I bleed Old Gold and Black but not just because of athletics and I would be embarrassed to have to support a school who continually has its 5*s negatively in the news the way Duke or Michigan State does... so will gladly take Painter any day over the likes of the coaches where ONLY winning and Final Fours matter.

why can't a school get players with character and talent? You make it sound like schools that traditionally have top rated team, recruit kids that have talent but aren't good kids. Maybe a few do, but more often then not that is something most coaches look at and if they make a mistake and a player turns out to be a problem, most take care of it. Don't let a few bad apples make it look like it happens to every top team.

I thought I made it clear I do believe we did get a great 5* also with great character- at least I certainly meant to. But I honestly believe that Biggie is not the norm...Neither did I mean to suggest he is the only 5* with character...But I do believe that many of the 5*s today would not fit the mold of character first, team first, or representing their school first over their personal egos that I want to see in a Purdue uniform. I had not read about the MSU tripping last night against Michigan when I posted earlier but it's a perfect example of what I meant...Give me Painter's players over that every time...
