Edey to IU?

You keep saying so many never stepped foot on IUs campus... Wonder how that alumni base got so large... Guess Penn State fans never went there either.
So, I'm talking fans not alumni base. The Big on the whole has a large alumni base. Are you suggesting that there are more fans than alumni? If so, yes there are always more fans than people that have a connection to the teams in some way....that percent is larger for IU and that is quite okay. I would never dengrate the many IU fans being discussed in front of them because they have value even if they can get a bit annoying and misguided.

I have no problem with you being an IU fan. I wonder how many doctors or even dentists are on this or many other sites? I'm guessing none although they may quietly agree with so much said on this forum. Their equivalents in Purdue people are found in this site. Many courses at Purdue require getting the correct answer, not just the one the prof wants. I don't care about how many fans or alumni IU has other than I wish they had less dependency on the government.

What does it matter? Why is that some "burn?" You're literally just saying another school is more popular. That's a compliment to the other school. You think programs are complaining about having fans who never went there or band wagon fans? You think Bama cares for football? That's like 75% of their fanbase.
You're the one that asked "how did IU alumni base get so big". I'm pointing out to you that you are confusing alumni base with fan base. IU alumni base isn't any different than the bigger B1G schools including PU, they are all in the top 10 in the country.

True and (kinda) false for number of living alumni:

True? They are both top ten. Per US News Purdue is #10 and IU is #2.

False (kinda)? IU is apparently bigger, at over 650k to Purdue at 479k. However, I’m assuming for IU that includes branch campuses.

Well, I have met a few doctors and dentist that were reasonable...not all, but some...and many of them were tied to Purdue in some way. The problem is that many fans have not stepped foot in a class at Bloomington and are a bit more unreasonable than the grads on the whole. Kids will be kids and so you can have a few of those sprinkled in. Makes you wonder how they came to be so delusional.
Agree, most but not all Attorneys. Sometimes it's harder because their assumptions are still from the 70's-80's. I'm completely fine with this but they also need to understand that is past history and needs to be left there.

As well, most alumni are true fans of every sport that represents their school. Unlike, the interchangeable jacket club😉.

Edey will be evaluated at the end of the season, and will return to Purdue for his Senior season.
Ya know...a couple of weeks ago there was a thread asking whether he would return or not. I said it was a flip of the coin and many or the ones that posted thought he was gone. Now it appears many that posted think he returns. Who knows? ;)

You do know the difference between a fan base and an alumni base right??? TJ is talking about all of the IU fans that never set foot there as a student. Both PU and IU are top 10 in the nation in living alumni. IU just has more fans like you that never attended the school or for sure actually graduated.
I think it has to do with the value of the degree.
My oldest daughter, for example, graduated in Chemical Engineering with a 3.8 gpa.
She has worked for Dupont in Germany, Iowa, California and is now in Wisconsin.
Do they have a McDonalds in Germany?
My point being that Purdue Alumni don't usually stick around Indiana because of the opportunity the Purdue Degree offers.

Yes, they have McDonalds as does Prague. Two of my best friends were Chem E. Both very sharp. FWIW my son-in-law is from Plauen, Germany (about 10 mile from the wall and Chech Republic) and when the wall went down his family's first place to visit that they heard so much about was McDonalds. So much for socialism...

I hate to break it to a lot of folks on this board but my experience has been that outside of the state, Purdue doesn't have the reputation that many on this board believe it does, academically or in sports. Maybe its different for those in the know (engineers and alumni) but my experience has been that Purdue is kind of blah to most folks outside the state.

In my limited experience Purdue has a very strong reputation outside of Indiana. The opportunity to tell someone what school I graduated from is not common, and I don't go around bragging about it. However, when asked, I will tell people, and I always get a reaction of "Oh wow!".

Out east, in areas of high tech, I get responses indicating respect when I mention going to Purdue. That would include Boston, Washington, and Philadelphia. In Florida, around the Canaveral area, of course. In Seattle, where my daughter worked, Purdue is a really big deal with Boeing and Microsoft. I should note that while Purdue spans both companies, Michigan also has a strong reputation at Boeing, and Illinois at Microsoft.

In DC there are Purdue grads at every level. I was on a softball team that was mostly policy folks. Well represented in R and D, FFRDCs, Acquisition, and private industry. Even know a few accountants out here. Mitch Daniels stopped by a few years ago and there were several hundred people at the hotel. Doesn't seem blah here at all.

I've traveled the world and found IU grads in many prestigious positions. I often find it's an IU grad preparing my food, scrubbing my toilets and even this degree holder who was putting his master's in wheelbarrow dynamics to good use:

Do you guys understand that we all live in bubbles? We surround ourselves with people who are similar. Work, common interest and economic status....... If you hang around the Midwest or even engineers across the country, you may get it but anyone else not so much.

I've never got a "wow" from anyone after being asked. I'm not an engineer, I am a CPA and to be quite honest people are disinterested if I tell them I went to Purdue or try to discuss college basketball. I have Purdue gear I would wear all the time in Indiana, now that I'm out of state I don't wear it as much. If I do people think I'm a Pirates or Steelers fan.

My whole family went to Purdue and all are big fans, but my daughters grew up outside the Midwest and never considered going to Purdue. It wasn't even on their radar.

Oh so only your experience is relevant? Troll on...

Disagree. I live in SC and it's not uncommon to see Purdue gear in my area. In fact, I have a fraternity brother in the same town I live in.
The Purdue brand carries weight academically and with employers.

If it makes you feel better my post was poking fun at IU. tic
I know a lot of very successful IU grads.
My Brother in law is head of logistics for Ryder and my Dentist also received his Doctorate from IU.
I coached girls softball for 15 years and a number of my former players have nursing degrees from IU and are doing quite well.
My PU degree has opened many a door for me and am very happy I received my Engineering Degree from there.

It's because they are the same fan base of 2 schools & never went to either... IU & ND

You are not talking to enough people. It's considered Ivy League engineering by most on the East and West Coast. I work for a company HQ'd in Boston FYI.

It's absolutely different in the engineering world. I know for a fact that my Purdue engineering degree was a deciding factor in getting my first job with my current employer.

Purdue degrees are highly regarded in the tech world.

The Fall Purdue Industrial Round table had over 400 companies on campus recruiting. Most companies had teams of more than 10 people. And it is not the only time these companies come to campus recruiting. There is no other university where as much company on-campus recruiting goes on as at Purdue. A Purdue degree in a STEM field opens many doors,

The IR was an awesome experience each year. A great chance to talk with many different players, large and small, and gain interview experience.

...and collect free stuff!

Purdue needs to be honest with all applicants warning them before the first class is taken, that upon graduation they will be exposed to a lot of frustration, because being smart in a dumb world is very frustrating...

We had multiple east coasters on our floor at Cary and they all said Purdue was considered close to Ivy in their world. This WAS 45 years ago ;)

Northwest Indiana has quite a few Purdue fans that aren’t alums. Close to the school plus they have quite a few area athletes that have excelled.
The Region has supplied Purdue some athletes for a while
