I have lived in other states and Purdue has a very recognizable name. Maybe not in accounting, but certainly in science and engineering. I also work with people all over the world, and they are always familiar with Purdue. When I have teleconferences with people, and I introduce myself and state that I live in Lafayette, Indiana, I commonly hear back, "Purdue?"I hate to break it to a lot of folks on this board but my experience has been that outside of the state, Purdue doesn't have the reputation that many on this board believe it does, academically or in sports. Maybe its different for those in the know (engineers and alumni) but my experience has been that Purdue is kind of blah to most folks outside the state.
I live in SC too. I don't really see Purdue Gear much unless I go to touristy spots. There are a few Purdue license plates in my neighborhood. If I'm wearing Purdue gear out, more times than not people stop me and mention a Purdue grad they know or a get a Boiler Up occasionally. I have two friends here that went to iu, but other than them, I never hear about iu except for on this board or on BTN.Disagree. I live in SC and it's not uncommon to see Purdue gear in my area. In fact, I have a fraternity brother in the same town I live in.
The Purdue brand carries weight academically and with employers.
