Admittedly this game was against poor competition, but Catchings looks really, really good. 19pts on 8-10 shooting to go along with 4 boards and a steal in 18 minutes. Too bad it didn't work out. Honestly I think he could have started over Harris, or at least got major PT if he wanted it.

He's a bit of a head case. Called Painter the day after asking out of his NLI to take him back.

A really good talent, would have been a very good complement to this team, I think. But I don't blame Painter for just not wanting to deal with it.

He’s good for sure but tough to tell yet how he will do vs actual competition (this school was D2). In a write up when they played vs Boise state in a “secret scrimmage” his name wasn’t mentioned as a top 3 scorer for them, which they barely beat Boise state BUT 4 scholarships players were held out and he could have been one of em, but not sure.

Im not sure where he would have fit this year and if he wasn’t going to play defense like Harris or CJ, I don’t think he would have seen a ton of mins (at least not right away). Will be fun to follow him tho and hope he does well and his decision pans out for him.

Wouldn't have started over Harris, but at the 4 & TKR at the 5. Combined that with our 5 stud guards we would have been a FF team this year imo.

Big loss.

Now???? Sure doesn't look like it. Not close.

I’m really not sure he would have pushed us to a F4 automatically. I need to see how he guards vs the 3 and 4 and even 5 positions first. You could be right but need to def see more!

That's fair. Sure would have solved a ton of problems I see down low.

Remember what ever we see from him at BYU, he would have been better coached at Purdue....and a better product. That I know for sure.

Not trying to argue, but what issues down low would he solve? I don’t think he’d be any better on defense than what we have now, tbh.

I might be jumping the gun but I believe he’s talented enough that he’d offer more upside at the 4 allowing TKR more time at the 5. I think he’d contribute more than any of the contenders for time at the 4-5 except TKR. He definitely sounds like a bit of a head case but I don’t believe you can deny his talent. But it ultimately doesn’t matter as he’s not here and we move forward with the guys we have!

He’s a 3 in a 4s body. Not physically equipped to guard 4s in the BIG either.

He’d give us different looks. He’d have impact for sure…but he’d give us headaches too.

We are what we are now and it’s time to move on.

If coached properly he has the quickness to be great on D and in position. Might not see that at BYU, but I know CMP would have him ready and in position with his quickness.

Spot on. Perhaps folks knocking him are like me to a degree.....a bit upset he went elsewhere.

Our coaches would have used him well and had him help us with his quickness for a big.

Perhaps??
With our coaching...he's just what we need.

With BYUs coaching.....lol.
But how quickly could he learn the defense? Or what if he wasn’t willing to play hard nosed defense like CJ and Harris (we won’t ever know)? And TKR at the five doesn’t help vs 7 footers.

Disclaimer - I’d love to see TKR at the 5 and Heide at the 4.

Love to see that too. Great size & quicks with athleticism, decent shot from 3.

Course, Heide doesn't seem to want to see that too badly, it seems.....based on 2 games. Guess that matters the most. Small sample size tho. Needs to come out with more urgency as the opportunity is there.

Totally agree. Somehow hoping he’s injured or paint was giving others some run…but just can’t believe he couldn’t get more mins than he has already.

I can't think of any other explanation than a nagging injury. He's in his 3rd year in the program and has the tools to be All-B1G. He showed flashes last year, and I expected this would be his breakout year.

To be fair, he hasn’t played with TKR at the five yet. That lineup is coming, although I don’t know when. I have a feeling he will shine with the starters.

All of Purdue hopes you are 100% correct. I thought that would be a fun run & gun bunch preseason. Hope it comes to fruition.

Season hasn't started yet. CMP will get them going by Jan. We are too used to early perfection last 2 years. Normally the best play cards mes in Jan of a typical team. This one the best play might not be till March??

Agree with this. I want to see how well he rebounds and whether he is any type of rim deterrent. If he does, those two things well I agree that we could have really used him.

The fact that he is scoring well doesn’t tell me anything other than the fact that he likely made the right choice.

After the first two exhibition games I can’t but to begin to wonder if maybe the reason we haven’t seen the small ball lineup with Heide at the 4 is because of the way we’ve seen him play in those two games. He’s not going to get much time playing the way he is. He’s kinda just been there and not really contributing much. Last year he earned his time mainly through his defensive efforts and he has competition for playing D on the top scoring guards and small wings in both Harris and Cox. He never really created shots for himself but his stroke was always good. I wonder if he’s struggling just to figure out how he fits into this year and is unsure how to define or carve out his role. I really thought he’d be aggressive this year and we’d see more small ball than the traditional big lineup 🤷🏼‍♂️?

I know you didn't say it , I'm saying it , just watching his body language I get the feeling something s off....he has so much potential.

He apparently just went to the locker room mid game at least once at OTE because he was just pissed off at something that happened in-game.

I think the potential for screwing with team chemistry was/is high with Katchings
