Linton-Stockton 64, Heritage Christian 52 -
Myles Colvin (2023 Purdue commit - 4 star) - 23 points

Whew. There's no way to say this nicely - Myles Colvin's team is a mess. Talent deficiency is one thing, but what was most on display was a complete lack of coaching. Colvin had 23 points on pure athleticism and shooting. Heritage Christian didn't run plays, and didn't appear to have much of an offensive system in place of set plays. Colvin spent a large portion of this game hovering just above the free throw line while Linton-Stockton played a zone. He was called for two moving screens as the ball was passed back and forth on the top of the key, ignoring Colvin in the high post.

In theory Heritage Christian played some form of 5-out on offense. But when Colvin got the ball there was often another offensive player or two standing near him or trying to set a screen or in general mucking up spacing. Colvin had a couple highlight plays in transition. One particularly impressive play early, he went from a full sprint, to a stop, to rising up from two feet and throwing down a monster one-hand dunk.

Colvin's athleticism goes without question. He's a powerful leaper and capable of eating up the entire length of the court in a few strides. When he was able to get the ball, he was dominant, if not too reliant on his jump shot in the half court. He was a blur in transition and had two different stretches where he took over the game. But he didn't have plays called for him. He probably didn't even lead the team in shot attempts. Colvin's stock and production this year might be in some concern just because of how his team is operated and using him. It's hard to imagine any Mr. Basketball coming from that team right now.

Brownsburg 73, Heritage Hills 50 -
Kanon Catchings (2024 Purdue commit) - 23 points
Trent Sisley (2025 - 4 star) - 30 points

This was a fun one despite the lopsided score. Catchings definitely has the bigger, more complete, and talented team, but it wasn't for a lack of effort from Sisley who played the entire game until two minutes were left in the fourth quarter despite spending the entire second half defending Kanon Catchings.

He needed to guard Catchings because Catchings went off in the first quarter. The junior showed his ability to score on every level. He hit a beautiful righty finish after a right to left drive, a catch and shoot three, a mid-range pull up, and a monstrous dunk in transition. He was never as dominant the rest of the game, but he kept showing flashes of his all-around game including a half-court oop in transition. Brownsburg is a really good team. Catchings doesn't have to be ball dominant. But you can already see how Catchings fits into Matt Painter's offense that asks every wing and guard to handle the ball, shoot, and attack off the dribble. Catchings is every bit of 6'7"/6'8" and is an incredibly fluid athlete. (I was told he measured over 6'8" with his shoes off.) He was the best prospect at the Sneakers for Santa Showcase to me. I was also told that Purdue staff think he's likely to have a long, productive NBA career. They think that highly of him.

Which makes Trent Sisley's defensive effort all the more impressive in the second half. Brownsburg was smart and went to better mismatches in the second half and Catchings didn't force his looks. Sisley didn't have his most efficient day, but he did show his ability to score inside against smaller players, from three on a couple difficult pull ups, and in the post. He showed a really nice face up, step-back jumper from the baseline. Sisley didn't have the most polished post moves, but he was always working to get in good position and sealing his defender. He's not a huge leaper, but has quick burst and a lightning fast second jump. He was a monster on the boards. He reminds me of a smaller Caleb Furst athletically. He moves really well for a big man. Impressive what he was able to do against a talented Brownsburg team. He was the defensive's focus and was still able to get his points and rebounds.

He'll be visiting Purdue tomorrow for the Minnesota game and I'm told Purdue is still very high on his radar and if he had to choose today, they'd probably be in the lead. Obviously a lot can still change on that front.

Ben Davis 58, Kokomo 51 -
Flory Bidunga (5 star Class of 2024)- 16 pts (6/9), 17 rebounds, 7 blocks

I came away both impressed and disappointed with Bidunga. Impressed because his physical tools might be even more impressive than his #2 recruiting rank would suggest. Someone that big and long is not supposed to have that kind of straight line speed. He can absolutely blur in a full sprint. He also jumps very very high. It makes what he does do well very impressive. He dominated for a stretch in the third and early fourth where he was catching every lob in sight and throwing it down. But he also just had 4 points in the first half.

Bidunga has a crazy high ceiling. That much athleticism harnessed is going to be unstoppable, but he also scored one basket that wasn't a dunk. He was reliant on other players getting him the ball at the rim to score. He was also a little passive on defense. The 7 blocks were impressive, but the numbers are a little misleading. I believe twice he blocked two shots back to back. That's good, but he also had a tough time deciding when to challenge shots and sat back on defense more than someone with that athleticism should. He was late to some challenges and looked stuck between help and keeping to his man and not affecting the shot either way. He also didn't rebound out side of his zone at all. His length and jumping got him rebounds, but he didn't move his body around or go and get extra rebounds. He hasn't learned to dominate with his elite gifts, but that can definitely still come. But it makes me concerned that his floor is much lower than his 5-star tag would imply.

Not much new to discuss on where Bidunga will end up. Cincinnati still seems to be in the lead, but Bruce Pearl who was in attendance and who Bidunga just visited, is making a strong, strong push. Pearl is a big character and it seemed to go over well with Bidungo on the trip. The style at Auburn also fits his game, but it really only makes predicting where he ends up murkier.

Will update with a post tomorrow with video highlights from the day. Stay tuned.
