Don't overreact - It's the ebb and flow of a season - a long one

After the ND comeback and the Iowa game, just a few days ago there were two posts on this board comparing this year's team to the great Hummel teams and another one saying that this year's team was clearly better, no doubt about it than last year's team.

TC4three came on here and told both posts and the majority of the board that people were overreacting because Purdue was pounding weak teams at home, including a very young Iowa team. TC4three kept saying that we had to wait until the Big Ten season played out a little bit to truly judge, and that we were gonna miss defensive players like R. Davis and AJ (Would Mason have done that to R. Davis like he did to Purdue tonight?). The overwhelming majority of the posters pretty much laughed at TC (showing, I think, a lack of history and understanding of how tough the Big Ten is). The majority also talked about how Purdue was better off without Davis because he was an offensive liability last year. (Did Mason get 30 or only 28 or so tonight without that Big Ten defensive player of the year on Purdue now?).

I supported TC and agreed that how good this year's team is still up in the air. I even said that I thought Purdue would lose 5 or 6 games this year in the Big Ten. This got me some distain and a LMAO from Pistolpt. Being an adult male who communicates with words, I had to ask my 15 year-old daughter what LMAO means. . . . Well, after tonight, this is my big "I told you so, LMAO" thread to Pistol and the others who dismissed TC and us more experienced Big Ten watchers.

With that said, now don't overreact the other way after this game. It was just one game. It's a long, long season with a ton of ebb and flow. IU beats NC and Kansas and loses at home to Nebraska. We kill Iowa and lose to Minny. Seasons are filled with good games and bad games. Yes, we were flat and bad at times tonight. Next week or in a month we might just as well go on the road and play and shoot out of our asses like Minny did tonight. Of course, the goal is to be consistent and always play well, but that doesn't happen with teams, any team, NBA teams, but especially with 20 year olds playing.

This year's team's might still end up clearly better than last year's team, don't judge on one game or two. It might end up maybe a little worse. Give it some time to jell now that it's in the conference and every game is tough and physical. Carson E. is kind of a personification for what I mean: he's not gonna play like he did against Iowa too often, and he won't play as bad as he did tonight. Carsen and the team will settle out and be somewhere in the middle.

But don't give up on them either. I still think this team can be a Final Four contender if we patch up some holes and our outside shooters get and stay hot.

Agreed on most of your post. We can still finish high in the B1G though and get a decent seed as the B1G is way down. Final 4 contender? We don't have consistently good guards with athleticism so I am going to say almost no chance on that.

Nice manifesto Vile. . Read the post again though. LMAO wording started thread regarding comment that who was saying the team was great like you were implying in the thread that others were insinuating . NOBODY on here was saying team either elite or great team. I wasn't laughing at your post although I didn't totally agree with it. Kid gloves approach with both of you boys from here on out though I guess. Try not to take it so seriously. I still believe that this team is better and many agreed and we will wait and see.

With that said, I agree with your second half of the manifesto. I also believe that this team still will have a outstanding year and great chance of being Big Ten Champs. Just my opinion bro so let me have it! Setback today but still lot of talent on this team and hopefully they get back on path with a huge road game next week.

just think where this team will be without swanigan, that is the scary part.

Exactly. Some are already talking about next year. Come on now. Swanigan is our only 5 star guy and no one with his talent is already on the roster or coming here in 2017. Too bad CMP couldn't capitalize and add at least one stud guard who was ready to compliment him this year

Obviously I agree. I try to stay in the center of the road here but it feels like most people are either far to the right or far to the left. I think there are going to be a ton of games like this. The bottom of the conference is better than last year and I don't see any juggernaut teams (including us) either. Wouldn't be shocked if 13-5 won the conference this year. What's important is that we win at least one of the next two games which will both be tough.

no, if this season is going to be a good one, aka, top 4 seed in the ncaa touney, both of our next 2 games must be wins... both at OSU, and home to Wisconsin... 100% need to be wins

Your unwillingness to even accept an opposing point of view in that thread spoke volumes. I said I hoped you were right but I saw the two teams as very close to one another whereas you doubted the comparison could be close. Still hoping this team can turn a corner we did not last year but there are flaws that we have to figure out how to deal with still.

Pot calling kettle black here. Sir, you are as confrontational as anybody I've read here. Tell you what I will personally come back and admit wrongdoing if this season is akin to last year. Setback today but lot of good basketball ahead.

lmao and of course Ohio st loses so now we have to go AT ohio state with them coming off a loss.. which not only makes it harder to beat them now that they will come out extra hard, but now it looks like even worse of an opponent for RPI purposes since they have an extra loss rather than a win. And Wisc plays at IU this week before playing us at home... again, same chance of what I described above. Perfect

Watch the lmao stuff krazy, people take this stuff serious here! Yeah Big10 schizo so far this season.

Terrible loss for sure. But this year 4 losses probably wins the conference. This means we need to find two more road wins to make up the difference and hold court at home the rest of the year. We can still win this but today was a huge blow.

BIG schedule was very favorable early...3 of 4 at home and a very winnable road game...Purdue could not even stand the good fortune for more than one single game...no doubt disappointing, and more so on the heels of an opportunity to make a significant move as well in the national rankings.

This might be the first time I have ever agreed with a post of yours. But well said.

Are all you guys really dissing Carsen Edwards? Wow. He is absolutely a "Stud Guard" that's doing some amazing things this year. Is he making some mistakes? Of course. But, dang, the upside is off the charts.

I might have missed it but I didn't see anyone "dissing" Edwards. He is a freshman and is going to play that way sometimes. I don't consider recognizing that as dissing him.

I just read this: "Too bad CMP couldn't capitalize and add at least one stud guard who was ready to compliment him(Swanigan) this year". And, I didn't see him retract it. If I missed something I'm sorry.

I guess I just don't consider that insulting. "Stud" is a very subjective term. IMO someone could be a very good player and not be referred to as a "stud" here. Hell, I think some of our players are pretty good and they get ripped up and down on this board fairly regularly.

Ok, ok. For the record, I consider him a stud. LOL

Is the B10 really "way down", or is it that there are some new players in the league such as Minny, Nebraska, Northwestern, and a couple of others who are going to be a determining factor? Look at the Illini and how they've improved. Even Rutgers is going to be better. Purdue was outplayed, and maybe out-coached last night. Indiana was outplayed and certainly out-coached by Nebraska.

Disagree with your statement that "of course Ohio st loses so now we have to go AT ohio state with them coming off a loss.. which not only makes it harder to beat them now that they will come out extra hard ". No one knows how a loss will affect a team. OSU might start the locker room talk, the infighting might take place, finger pointing.....etc. Purdue has to worry about Purdue and not OSU, Minny, Nebraska, or IU.

Ok, ok. For the record, I consider him a stud. LOL

Big time potential, but he is wildly inconsistent. He can help win games this year and already has, but he is not a stud that is going to help put us on his shoulders along with Biggie. He is shooting 36 or 37% on the year and has had a pretty easy schedule all things considered (so don't expect that number to go up as we have better opponents night in and night out). That is not the play of a stud guard. Future stud guard hopefully, but point stands that Swanigan does not have enough help this year to make a special run.

Reading comprehension or really just reading in general is not his specialty.
Okay so I made a mistake. Still doesn't change the accuracy of my comment considering CE. But then again, basic comprehension is not your specialty.

So your counter to the argument is to compare him to someone that doesn't even play his position let alone same year in college? So basically you have no good counter to what was said so you move the goalposts. Not surprised since that is your modus operandi.

Oh, inconsistent for sure. He's a frosh. I get that. But, c'mon man. The kid is special. I know you know that I know you know that. LOL. I consider him a stud as in he's going to eventually be the best player on the court in black and old gold. Write that down.

I don't disagree he can be special, but going back to what I said "Swanigan is our only 5 star guy and no one with his talent is already on the roster or coming here in 2017. Too bad CMP couldn't capitalize and add at least one stud guard who was ready to compliment him this year"

Who did I compare him too? Are you talking about Biggie?!?! I can't handle the stupidity. Read the post before you reply to me.

I didn't compare anyone to Biggie. The whole genesis of my post was to say Biggie needed someone to help him. First you talk about a guard who isn't here yet and then talk about comparing Biggie and CE which no one is doing. Read before you post man!

You can't even comprehend your own topic, so you really should follow your own advice.

If you look at your trail of failure, you most certainly did compare him to Biggie. Maybe have someone explain your own posts to you before responding?

You take stupidity to an all new level.

Spot on. You can't argue with cp because he will never man up and will only cry and put you on ignore, yet still read your posts, then whine some more. Dude is a flat out worthless human being. His entire reason for existing is to crap on Painter for some stupid reason, even when everything he posts is proven false and he ignores facts.

You have joined a new level and I can see that you are not here to contribute in anyway, but to make crap up like that Tommy Coverdale and Kessel guy (might be the same poster... not sure). Everything is in the history on the posts, but you still can't acknowledge you're wrong or just understand simple sentence structuring. Either way, I'm done wasting my time with you.

I find it rather ironic that you call me out for something you have a broad history of doing. You simply move your goalposts so much that you are losing track of your own arguments now and can't acknowledge that you hate Painter just for the sake of hating him. You simply don't comprehend what you post and when called on it, you do the typical thing you posted here. It wasn't unexpected since I backed you in to a corner and you as usual ignore things that show you to be wrong.

But it's okay, your response here only supports what I called you on and your predicted retreat only further diminishes your credibility, if you even had any to begin with. I'll take the win here, thanks.
