Does this help or hurt with eastern and Tillman?

I think it hurts, that is, if Mich St has room for all three. They seem to all have high interest in Mich St given their visits and seem to know each other too. Figures it's more likely that State comes in and take the class that I really wanted to see at Purdue. Hopefully Izzy retires soon.

punaj: I'm afraid of the same thing. I've said all along I was afraid JJJ was going to MSU, and now that he has I can see the others following him there. MSU has the room for them next year. Hopefully that doesn't happen and we get at least one of them, but I wouldn't count on it.

Eastern would be a huge get for us. A backcourt with him and Carsen would be awesome. Add Tillman to play along with Haas and Taylor, and I would feel better about losing Jackson. But that lose stings and seeing Eastern go to MSU as well will sting more. I'm tired of losing to Izzo buy don't see it ending until he is gone. He's too well known as a winner in the NCAA tourney.

initial thought is that it doesn't help, but maybe they see more opportunity now ?
With Tillman being from Michigan, it is hard seeing him turn down the home state MSU offer, especially with his AAU teammate already on board. I have no idea what Eastern will do.

The only thing in our favor with both of them is playing time. MSU had a loaded '16 class ahead of them and is also in on more 5 star talent for '17. Like it or not, Izzo is coaching legend, and will be reeling in more 5 star studs in '18 and '19 with his play for a HOF coach sales pitch.

Eastern and Tillman come across as players that 3 or 4 year program guys. If seeing minutes and having a prominent role right away is what they want, Purdue might have a chance with them still.

Yeah - MSU signed 2 top 50 forwards last year, which makes signing JJJ even more impressive.

It could end if we started winning in the NCAA Tournament. :) Did I just blow your mind?
That works...with better more consistent recruiting. Without it you can't get to the second weekend or better consistently. It that damn chicken vs egg problem.

Tillman is going to need to think long and hard about whether he really wants to go to MSU. Ward is going to be the center and JJJ is the PF. Then, Bridges is going to get PF time anytime they play small. Just not sure where the minutes for Tillman are going to come from.

Eastern will probably have a similar issue once Brian Bowen commits to MSU. From what I gather, the primary reason he isn't already locked into MSU is because it is highly unlikely he ever plays PG there. If they get Bowen, his only real avenue to playing time is taken away.

I wish recruits thought like you haha. Goto MSU have a chance of loosing minutes to other solid players at your position then you end up transferring/not starting till Junior year. Or goto Purdue play major minutes as soon as you walk in the door and be a fan favorite! Cough cough Derek Willis.

Yep, it's BS that Duke's coach, Kentucky's coach, Louisville's coach, UNC's coach, etc... all started their careers with 5* players that immediately gifted them with Final Fours. :)

One of whom, Miles Bridges, will likely never play a minute with JJJ. And that one and done projection (for Miles) probably helped sell Jackson on MSU. Not that I think Jaren is a OAD talent, but all kids, especially 5 stars, like to think they are.

Tillman is likely between Purdue and Michigan State, with Michigan State as the favorite. he is going on another visit this weekend to MSU per Twitter. Tillman should be a priority, but I think Eastern should be the top priority at this point. I feel that Purdue has to get faster and more athletic if they want to compete for the top recruits and go far in the tournament. Purdue can still have a really nice class if they get Eastern, Epperson, and then find an underrated gem. A deep run in the tournament and the opening up of playing time will go a long way in the next class. Got to keep grinding!

Eastern now also visiting msu again next Sat. 24th (wiscy game), Jackson expected to be there also.

It Almost seems that Izzo targets kids that Painter wants. Both schools seem to compete for the same kids. Odd that IU isn't in the same mix.

Eastern and Epperson would be a nice start but who's after that?? Got plenty of schollys to fill. Haven't done much research on this Epperson kid but from his highlight video he looks like a solid big man with some skill. Hopefully MSU doesn't get involved lol

Cause local kids know better not to play for that clown. IU offers every other kid in the class and throughout 40 different states also!

Probably.
our staff has saved quite a bit of money, time, and effort on early recruiting work for msu that way.

There often is a huge luck factor to the start of "great" programs. Once your there it's hard to lose the label. It has been 30 years since the Hoosiers did anything at that highest level yet there are still some who think they are an elite program.

So.... Who are the top priorities if we miss out on eastern and Tillman?
3 or 4 Grad transfers and then the 2018 class. Hopefully Izzo is out of schollies after his 2016 and 2017 hauls. Last we need is for Painter to reach on a bunch of 3 star projects and role players this year if he misses on all the impact guys.

You don't count the 2 final fours since then?

I'd be shocked if Tillman doesn't pick MSU. Play at Purdue right away or sit the bench the first few years at MSU, tough decision!

Oh reach he will my friend. We have way too many schollies to go unfilled.

OK fine. It's a been a long time. I'm old:(. I remember the Davis trip right after Knight and don't think they have been much different than us since then. Point being it is hard to get that elite reputation but once you do it sticks for a long time even if not deserved any more.

Until Jackson committed to msu i really wasn't too worried but its looking more and more like this class will end up with mostly project players and we'll be

Ya this class a been a major disappointment. Was hoping to nab a top 50 player. How was painter ever able to land the baby boilers? Hasnt even come close to landing a class that good since.

He doesn't need to get another class like that. If he gets 1 or 2 top 75 players a year and another 1-2 top 150 guys, that will translate to continued success. The problem when you have a class like the baby boilers, it makes recruiting behind them difficult, which is why he stuffled recruiting after them. He didn't have minutes to give. Small classes are fine, but he needs to land some top 100 talent. Eastern, Epperson, and Tillman are the only realistic top 100 options left. There is unfortunately a chance he misses on all three. It shouldn't be panic mode and then settle for 3-5 unrated or top 250 type guys. If it comes to that, find a roll player or two that does one thing in particular really well and hope to develop the rest of their game. Then go hard at it the 2018 class. I really hope we get Eastern. Epperson or Tillman would be nice, but my first choice would be Eastern. We have to get more athletic.
