I haven't heard the name Dawand Jones mentioned as a Purdue football recruit. I understand he is a 6'8" and 360 lbs. offensive lineman with quick feet from Ben Davis H. S. I understand he has an offer from Penn St. I'm wondering why we're not trying to keep him close to home and make him a Boilermaker. Have I missed something?

Quick feet is relative.

Purdue prioritizes mobility over sheer size in its offensive linemen for systematic reasons. They want to be able to move their feet to pass-protect, zone-block and make second-level blocks. Having seen Jones play basketball many times and football live once, I don't think he fits that mold.

On a sidenote, I think he could play low mid-major basketball, too, if he wanted to. He can play.
