Brief presentation about the season. I'll avoid all the "coach speak" about loving this team, excited, hard work paying off..etc., and only share actual comments about actual players or positions.
He'll announce tonight who the starting QB will be, but said both the returning guys are definitely improved from last year.
Also said that they're not planning to recruit a QB in this class as they're happy with all 3 young guys on the roster now...of course injuries could happen that changes that.
Young the JuCo transfer is the top receiver right now and is going to be a starter on one side with Yancey on the other side. Anthrop is being brought back slowly per the trainers suggestion, but should see more reps as the season goes on. Said that this is the best (and deepest) receiver corp he had since getting to Purdue and is excited because this group of 7 allows them do do a lot including speed past the defense and go deep. He added that he's also confident that his QB starter could deliver a deep ball on target.
Said it's hard to replace the speed of Mostert and Hunt, but thinks they'll have just as much production out of the 3 RB, especially because of the schemes they'll use. He was asked a question and said that a LOT was added to complex sets out of the backfield designed to play to the runners' strengths and confuse the defense. Also said that they team has 5 specific tempos that they'll use including a very fast hurry-up offense and a ridiculously slow snap count, "with 3 additional ideas in-between that you'll just have to see to know what I'm talking about."
Said the Linebackers could be the best group in the B1G and the same about the cornerbacks. Really likes the experience and "smarts" of the O-Line
Experience should make our kicking team effective.
At the lunch table he said that this morning he'd heard from the trainers and Danny E is fine and could return to full practice on Monday and should be fine for the Marshall game.
