No news there, but in reviewing our season-to-date stats, I noticed he has more RBs than the next THREE Boilermakers combined (and hint: Haas is not even one of those three...Isaac is a disappointing fifth on the team in rebounding, so far). Biggie's total dominance on the boards is somewhat surprising to me. Is Swanigan really that much better than the rest of the team, or are they just defering to him and assuming he'll handle most of the rebounding load himself?

What is your favorite American Pie movie? I've always loved #1 but #2 is pretty good as well. Thoughts?

He will knock a teammate out of the way to get a rebound. That isn't being critical, he is just obsessed with rebounding. Big body, good shot awareness and desire make for a great rebounder.

As discussed before about Isaac, with his lack of lateral movement he will never be a good rebounder. Good rebounders get them out of their area. This isn't something that Isaac can do, at least right now.

I think the biggest news out of all that is the lack of rebounding by Haas. Not shocking because rebounding is about more than being tall but people seem to expect Isaac to be great at it anyway. He's not a great rebounder and probably will never average 8+ a game but he should be better than he has been so far. I think foul trouble also has played a role.

You and Dry are dead on. "Big" players are rarely great rebounders. Long armed athletic ones are the great ones. Haas must set himself up earlier position wise to improve his rebounding numbers because he just isn't going to slice between two opponents and snag one from them without sending them to the floor like bowling pins and getting even more fouls on himself. If he gets better at working for position early he will get more "in area" boards.

One thing I've noticed some from him is that he will block out and clear space away from the ball so others like biggie can get the rebound as well.

Biggie on the boards seems to me as a slightly taller, somewhat thinner and a bit more mobile Wes Unseld during his pre- knee injury days at Louisville.

A lot of rebounding in addition to always being in position is desire. Biggie understand that and works his a$$ off. Don't think other coaches are not aware and part of their game plan is to ALWAYS make sure a body is on Biggie...one...two bodies until others pick up the slack. Haas just can't go get the boards due to speed. He can rebound close shots, but today those are always a foul or made...longer shots..longer bounce make it difficult for Haas.

My wife was watching the game with me - that was a shock. She said Biggie reminded her of the Seagulls from Finding Nemo. That ball is MINE!

Haas needs to be more concerned about being an effective alter-er of shots rather than rebounds, which he has done pretty well so far (outside of the first half against Nova'. There are athletic players around him that are above average or elite rebounders for their positions (Vince and Biggie) that don't require Haas to snare 10-12 a game. If he can give 5-7 a game and get 14-16 points in the paint every night, that is a huge positive for Purdue.

if he could get 5 to 7 boards that would be great!

Good observation. That does happen and is valuable. Not everything good is accounted for in the stat sheet.
