Want to get some feedback from you guys on Jack, given our now guard heavy group,
how's does he fit in ? What I like is like Mayer he has height and weight and for once we can play bigger at guard. We've discussed Mayers role , with Fletch , Harris , Cox and let's face it Murphy fighting for floor minutes as TKR DJ Burgess and Cluff will dominate the 4-5....in the end it comes down to defense for me the way CMP is . Who's going to rise above and be " that D guy" and your offense is just added bonus. Cox and Harris have a year of game pressure built in them ....haven't seen him play so was interested in those of you that have how he fits in this year . Or are him and West just scouting team backups this year wither roles emerging in the 26-27 year.

I think it’s way premature to assume that he doesn’t have a future. If there’s any truth to the Dakota Mathias comparisons, I like his chances of carving out a role in the future.

Really? You talk like you know a great deal about Benter and his abilities/skill level. Have you watched him play much? What about West and Mayer, seen them play? You might be correct, but Painter seems to like his play. myself I’m very curious to see him play and he meshes into the lineup, as in position and seeing his shot which evidently is very nice. He’s a bigger guard so what’s his defense look like? For me I’m gonna give him a chance before I write him off like you did. Well see…

Have heard reports he’s a better shooter than fletch. Can get to his spot and score a lot of different ways. Good passer too.

Not sure you and CMP see eye to eye on that , 1) this year is a coming out at year behind a redshirt year, even if doesn’t play alot he will contribute behind the scenes and after this year I feel he really becomes important. 2) his height strength athleticism and shooting % at 3 make him part of a bigger guard team with Mayer , for once we have some good size and strength at guard him and Mayer. Our guard group will be best in the Big over the next 3-4 years. Benter will be part of that success story.

I’m not saying Benter is bad. What I’m saying. Is I believe Purdue has better options. I kind of like the combo of Mayer, West and Cox for next year.

I don’t have anything against any of these players. But someone is going to start and get 20-25 minutes and someone is going to come off the bench. And just by reading the posts in this forum. It sure seems like the majority of of you love Ertel and Mayer, and West is to die for. And Harris has a lot of fans. And Sasha is going to recruit another Euro player. They can’t all be stars! Three of them will succeed and 2 will fail and most likely move on.

I watched as Kyle Macy was benched in favor of Parker,Parkinson and Sichting. All four were awesome guards. I’m not going to say anything bad about any of them. Who was the best of the 4? I see the same thing today. You have 6 awesome players competing for 3 spots.

Unlike some of you who say let’s wait and see and don’t write anybody off, I’m giving you my gut opinion that Benter will lose out to Mayer. Cox and West. In saying that, I’m also saying Harris will lose out. I previously said Newman,Hunter, IT, Heidi and Myles would lose out. We have a lot of talent. The question is will they all stay if they are not a starter? I believe you already know the answer to that one.

So call me out if you like. But in doing so, you should have the courage to make your own predictions of who will start. It’s easy to diss someone else. I gave you my predictions for next year: west, Mayer and cox.

Now comes the hard part. What’s your prediction for next year? And sorry, We’ll see how it plays out is a rather lame, weak prediction . How about sticking your neck out and actually name some names?

They’re going to play at least five, maybe six guys at the 1 through 3 each year. Minutes will be tough to come by this season but there’s no reason JB can’t be right in the mix next season.

I have watched him play in at least 15 games over his high school career and I will tell you he is a very smart basketball player, and I do agree he reminds me of Dakota and is a little better shooter. What they really have in common is that they were both coached by their fathers and are fundamentally solid players.

I have watched him play in at least 15 games over his high school career and I will tell you he is a very smart basketball player, and I do agree he reminds me of Dakota and is a little better shooter. What they really have in common is that they were both coached by their fathers and are fundamentally solid players.

I only watched him once in a junior/senior all-star game. He moved well without the ball (Troy Lewis), hit his shots and was not in that game hindered on D being perhaps a little less quick than many. There is always a place for a smart player that makes shots, especially in various matchups.

I don’t think paint agrees with you. He has been expected to be a win, never competing with smith and loyer. Expected to fill more of Heides void, can play 3 or 4. Reports are he is better than advertised. He won’t get a lot of minutes and I don’t expect to be major part of rotation but I do think we will see him play some time, more than Waddell.

Don’t disagree he won’t start no one said he would. He will get minutes though. When asked about him paint lights up and raves. He can pass, shoot, 2-way.

You are so obsessed with starting we got several guys that just agree to come here or return knowing they would come off the bench.

I don’t know if west will be better than benter. In fact I’ll have courage and make the “bold” prediction that west will redshirt. Paint doesn’t know that yet, west will have to want to. But I’m leaning towards a redshirt. I don’t see cox, Harris, and Mayer on the court together much just like cox, Harris, and Braden weren’t. Heide played 12.4 mpg as a redshirt freshman. I predict benter will be closer to Colvins minutes of 8.6 as a freshman but still be meaningful

Painter has gone out of his way to praise him for being a pleasant surprise and his passing and shooting skills. I see him similar to Dakota Matthias role for us except a little taller. Won’t get 20 mpg year 1, but he might on other Purdue teams. We are just that good this year.
