Including the Big Ten tourney, this is what I'd guess Purdue's seed is by # of remaining losses:
0 (3 losses total) - Clearly a 1 seed
1 (4 losses total) - Clearly a 1 seed
2 (5 losses total) - 90% a 1 seed, 10% a 2 seed
3 (6 losses total) - 60% a 1 seed, 40% a 2 seed
4 (7 losses total) - 90% a 2 seed, 10% a 3 seed
Everyone else (except likely Gonzaga) will lose again and probably multiple times.
A little history of B1G seeding:
1 seeds and total losses entering the tourney:
2021 - Michigan 4, Illinois 6
2015 - Wisconsin 3
2013 - Indiana 6
2012 - MSU 7
2011 - OSU 2
2 Seeds and their total losses entering the tourney:
2021 - Iowa 8
2019 - MSU 6, Michigan 6
2018 - Purdue 6
2016 - MSU 5
2014 - Michigan 8, Wisconsin 7
2013 - OSU 7
2012 - OSU 7
2010 - OSU 7
So MSU is the only B1G team with 5 losses in the last dozen years to not get a 1 seed. And that was at a time when the B1G was the 5th ranked conference according to KenPom. We are 2nd this year.
