There are going to be some fireworks in this game. Iowa has an attitude and is extremely physical. I'm very excited for this game but we can't be turning the ball over left and right. They ate msu up when they were turning it over. oh ya...i hate iowa.

They have an interesting team. When they are on, they are really on. Can hit the 3 pretty well and really block shots with Uthoff on help defense. They aren't a big team (weight-wise) but they have good length.

1) Woodbury @ 7'1" 250 will match up with H&H, obviously -- advantage Purdue (advantage Iowa for eye-poking)
2) Gesell @ 6'2" 190 will match up with whoever is in at PG -- advantage Iowa
3) Uthoff @ 6'9" 221 is tough. He is long, can shoot the three and drive. Does Ray get this assignment? Ray has been awesome the past few games shutting out the other teams #1.
4) The remaining starters Jok @ 6' 6" 205 and Clemmons at 6' 4" 200. We have Vince and Caleb left if Ray guards Uthoff. I think there are mismatches at both ends for these guys.
5) Off the bench Baer has been really good for them this year as a RS Fr and Uhl as well, both adding decent length.

Scary game in my book. We have to limit turnovers and play smarter that we have been.

Iowa is playing well, especially at home. Looking forward to watching how this translates at a sold out MA Saturday night. I'm guessing not well for them.

This can be a defining game (perhaps MI more so next week due to the extra time to work on things), in that the team and the coaches have a clear idea of our weaknesses (and our strengths) after playing better competition and in a hostile environment. There are no classes this week, giving time for those who choose to put in extra time (and thought) to improve on their own, as well as at practice. If we play harder, reduce turnovers, have better shot selection, and stop Iowa from doing the things they did well last night .... the future looks bright.

As a reminder, this is what Rapheal did to Uthoff last year:

Good thing Olaseni moved on; I do recall him having a field day on the offensive glass. Boilers will need to check Woodbury and Uhl better off the boards. Gesell had a good game too, and he is coming off a career high last night....had 25. He never stops driving it seems.

This should be a really good game, and the return encounter is three weeks later. If they hadn't collapsed in Ames, the Hawkeyes would currently have two of the better wins in all of NCAA ball right now.

This is a game where if we play like last night, we lose by double digits.

Right now, turnovers, first and foremost, our are achilles heel.

Over our last 3 games....

We are +23 over our opponents in rebounds

Yet....

We are -22 on field goal attempts. Over 3 games! That's an average of 7+ fewer field goals than our opponents each game, yet we're nearly +8 on rebounds per game.

Why?

Well, we are -19 on turnovers over the last 3 games.

If we can get out turnovers under control, this team will be very difficult to beat, let alone compete with.

the sad part about all that is most of them are completely unforced.

including offensive fouls.....I had been thinking that was better because it would be "easier" to correct, but if it keeps happening, maybe it's more of a systemic issue that won't get "fixed." "Only" 11 against Vanderbilt.....right now, it's the best thing I see to hang your hat on for this problem for Saturday along with that CS has only had one in each of the last two games. Obviously, they know it's a problem. Iowa forced 16 last night.

Those frustrate the crap out of me... I think you can add at least 10 of those to the TO total from last nights game.

I would put those in the category of "empty" or "wasted" possessions. Teams chart a whole bunch of other stuff, like post feeds, paint possessions, shots at a certain point in the clock etc.

Me too. There does seem to be an inordinate amount of this going on currently, with many of the players. I LOVE, I'll say it again LOVE, Caleb.........but shooting shots that far from the basket just takes him, PU's best rebounder, out of position to boot. Not trying to pick on him by any means, but shot selection can be better.......IMO

I know you are correct, but they are as good as a TO in my book, especially the one and done variety. Quick and out of rebounding position........might as well just give it to the opponent

The 2nd half last night is how we need to play the whole game. It seems like we jack up quick 3's, get careless with the ball and play like our hair is on fire in the 1st half. Then we come out the 2nd half and play smart basketball. How about we do that from the beginning starting Saturday night?? Obviously CMP got them straightened out at half time, but it shouldn't take that every time. We are going to get beat by better teams if we keep turning it over and taking quick 3's without even attempting to feed the post.

Iowa can really struggle on the glass and is hot/cold on offense. Purdue by 12.

Hawk fan here... I have only seen you guys play once this year and that was the Wisconsin game. I think the key to this game is whoever can control the tempo. If Iowa can force as many turnovers as wisky did in the first half they will convert those chances at a much better rate than the Badgers did. Looking forward to a great game!

Hope we make Iowa play like they are playing in football right now against Stanford. I was feeling sorry for them when I went to the frig to get a beer. That feeling left with the first sip. Womp on them Boilers!

I mentioned on the Iowa board that the game trophy should be the

in honor of the B1G thought process in establishing rivalries.
I really love/hate our hated rivals.

I like the idea......here's an alternate suggestion:

The Golden Cob......trimmed in Black. Nebraska might want a piece of that, but it hasn't accrued that right yet since joining the conference.

Old Gold for Purdue victories......

Sometimes noting what works well for others can be useful in you own game prep, so I'm hoping CMP did something with all the extra practice time like last week's "Camp Cal". Apparently Cal thought (rightfully so) that his team really needed to get its outside shooting fixed, or it was going to be a long season. They had numerous drills where all they did was essentially run the court and shooters shot threes over and over and over again (I'm sure I've greatly oversimplified, but you get the idea). The results were quite evident in their victory over Louisville where they shot 11-23 from three, and actually a higher percentage from three than two.

If we shoot >40% from three, we will be nearly unstoppable.
